Sail Date: Jun 2022

We took the Queen Mary 2 from Southampton to New York the week of June 24 to experience an expected up-scale trip from our usual cruise line. I’m sorry to say we were somewhat disappointed overall. First off, the computer network including the free wifi used to check accounts and book reservations only worked sporadically and for very short periods of time. Even when we went to the purser’s desk for information, their computers were down causing long lines. The food in the main dining room was nothing special and the waiters were somewhat aloof. The whole ships layout is a little bizarre and you have to kind of feel your way around to find some of the lounges and venues. The theater seats were quite uncomfortable and no drinks were allowed. This was a first for us. The ship is quite dated. There are no USB ports in the rooms, there was no electrical outlet in the bathroom and our balcony had substantial rust visible and the door rattled quite loudly during high winds. At times various elevators were out of service and the floor in one of the bars seemed to have rotting or missing flooring under the rug which could constitute a safety hazard. The entertainment was certainly geared to a much older crowd sometimes with the choices being either a pianist or a harpist. The casino is rather small but they did offer free beginning gambling lessons which was nice.

All in all it was not the experience we had hoped. I think the QM2 should either undergo a major update or be scrapped.
