We have done over 70 cruises with a number of different cruise companies and had read, and seen on You Tube, very positive views on Viking so we thought we would try it out - in retrospect a mistake.

The good points - the ship is well planned; the décor was pleasant and it’s easy to find your way about. There is ample deck space and the retractable roof over the pool is a great facility. The suites are similar to most other ships, ours was a bit short on clothes hanging space but, as many others have commented, the heated floor in the bathroom is a real plus. Our room was kept spotless, as was the ship, we didn’t see a speck of rust anywhere. The spa where we tried the complimentary steam and snow rooms was fun.

We were unimpressed with the food, the quality left a lot to be desired compared with other lines, particularly in the two specialty restaurants - we did those on our first two nights and then reverted to the MDR which was much better. Choice in the “World Cafe” was limited and on some occasions inedible – in one case a tepid beef kebab with boot leather texture. We put it to the side but the response was to bring the chef out 10 minutes later with a fresh one - that is not the answer, it should be right first time.
