Sail Date: Nov 2021
Cabin: Aft-View Extended Balcony

My wife and I were in an aft, extended balcony cabin for the November 6 and November 11 Carnival Valor cruises out of New Orleans. We cruised in an extended balcony cabin two doors down in January of 2020. This cruise, there was an AC problem that kept the cabin a little warm (hence the 3 of 5 rating). They brought us a floor fan and that made it ok for both cruises. The Valor has a new external paint job (blue bow as opposed to the white it used to be). The insides seem the same as before.

The whole aft of the ship seemed to shake a lot. I don't remember that on our past cruise two doors down in January 2020. It wasn't rocking of the ship. The ship had the "quakes" in port when we were docked and in the Gulf. I'm not sure what was causing it. It wouldn't make you stumble, but it did rattle the cabin doors.

We cruised the Glory in October and it was about 50% or less occupancy. The first, 5-day Valor cruise was way more than 50%. The second, 4-day Valor cruise was normal, pre-COVID occupancy based on the number of people around the Lido mid-ship pool in the middle of the day.

Cabin Review

Aft-View Extended Balcony

The aft, extended balcony cabins are a little narrow getting in and out. The closet closest to the hall door is not as deep as the other two so the door to the hall has enough room to open all the way. The hangers in that closet end up turned at a 45 degree angle so the door can shut because it's so shallow.

The bathroom is the normal cabin size with single sink and corner shower. There isn't a couch, only a chair between the mirror/desk and the bed. The balcony is the normal balcony width but twice as deep. You can recline and look out at the wake.

The hallway the aft rooms share only has eight doors on it, all for the balcony rooms. There are no inside doors other than the aft pool pump room door (on 8th floor). There isn't noise from the pumps and I only smelled chlorine once and it wasn't very strong. It never made it into the cabin. Because there is so little traffic and so few rooms, I think the rooms stay much quieter than the other cabins on the long hallways.

The aft cabins are just a few steps away from the aft elevators so it's easy to get to the MDR and aft pool area. It's a long hike (about two and half minutes) to the atrium elevators near the bow.

Our cabin was on the 8th floor, just under the aft pool area. Occasionally you could hear somebody dragging a lounge chair on the Lido, but it was infrequent and I never heard it after 9pm.

Our particular cabin, 8461, had an AC issue. Maintenance couldn't resolve it. They indicated the hot/cold air dampers were working properly and the cold air was coming out, just not enough to really cool the room off.
