This cruise was the first sailing of the Valor in 18 months because of the pandemic. We had balcony stateroom. We had the earliest boarding time and our room was of course ready because the ship had been vacant for 18 months.
Upon swinging open our stateroom door, we were smacked in the face by an overpowering smell of cigarette smoke. This was odd for multiple reasons: 1) the ship had been vacant for 18 months; 2) all rooms and balconies are nonsmoking; and 3) the casino is on level 5, and our travel companions who stayed on level 6 experienced no odor issues. We mentioned immediately to our room steward, who agreed that the smell was coming from the a/c vent, but was as confused as we were as to the source and could offer no solution or suggestion. It only got worse, and our room, as well as all of the bedding and all of our clothing, reeked of cigarette smoke for the entirety of the cruise.
The stateroom also had a thin layer of dust over every surface, as well as a large stain on the curtains. It seems odd that in 18 months, not even a little sprucing was done. Everyone reading this probably knows this bit of information already, but the basic balcony rooms only have one outlet for the entire room. ONE. The hair dryer is attached to a permanent outlet inside a desk drawer. My two-pronged extension cord was confiscated at check in. So, if you don't bring remote chargers with you on this ship, you are out of luck. Perhaps the suites have two outlets.
