To be upfront we are Princess Cruisers but when our dear friends asked us to join them on this cruise we were more than happy to do so. Former Norwegian Cruiser myself I knew a bit of what to expect but I didn't recall my prior experiences being this poor. We like interior rooms so chose to book one on this cruise and were extremely disappointed in the room. With no real separate bathroom, it had one sink that was the size of a wet bar sink for the whole room. The toilet was incredibly loud and the shower whined when in use. As for the staff, few of them seemed to enjoy their job. We know they are under long contracts and work long hours but it seems Norwegian needs to treat their team members much better to ensure they are happy for the guests. This whole cruise seemed to nickle and dime us to death. Norwegian seems like the Spirit Airlines of the cruise world where everything was an upcharge. Yes at the beginning it was a really great deal but when you buy the highest drink package and are still charged for mini bar items this seems excessive. The O'Sheehans Bar service was absolutely horrible. Staff was unhappy and it took more than 30 mins for food to get delivered every time. The Volcanic Mud Bath Excursion was over priced, not accurately advertised and not worth the time. The guides were great but Norwegian needs to improve their communication a ton for everything including the excursions. This excursion is not for those with motion sickness as the 2.5 hour drive was winding, fast, and up high hills. The bath was crowded and muddy and requires water shoes. The location had no running water so restrooms were horrible and there was no where to shower after bath. DO NOT RECOMMEND this excursion at all.
Not everything was bad. The staff at Maltings Whiskey Bar were outstanding!! Freddy, Christian, Aileen and the whole staff were fantastic. Always happy and with a smile ready to get your favorite beverage. The Casino Bartender, Renszi, was fabulous. We enjoyed chatting with him. Our room Steward, Ahmad, was incredible and very accommodating. The photographer, Aisara, was very professional and seemed to really enjoy her job. If not for these individuals the cruise would have been a complete bust. Will definitely go back to cruising with Princess from now on.
