We were invited to go with a group of friends. We were a group of eight. This would be our first cruise. We spent a few days in NYC at Crown Plaza in Times Square. Hotel was okay, location was great! Though we all had downloaded the Norwegian app, we found out through some people we met the ship would be late. No notification from Norwegian about this. We delayed going to the port about two hours. We still had to wait two hours at the port with no where to sit in the heat. We were given a ticket for a drink or snack. Very uncomfortable, even painful for some of our group with back and hip issues. Boarding, finally, went smoothly. Our cabin was adequate and clean. Lots of activities. The food was just okay. Never really had a hot meal. Warm at best. The staff, especially the wait staff, was very good. The entertainment was good. Shore excursions were good, for the most part. We found we had a better time in port if we just "did our own thing". Then there was the disembarkation. We had paid, through Norwegian, for transportation to the airport. Thinking we would have a shuttle to the airport, as was the case from the airport to the hotel. No shuttle, just a row of buses, and no one knew where the buses were going. Port security even the bus drivers didn't know where they were supposed to be going. Lots of people, pushing and shoving, and yelling. It was beginning to get very ugly. We waited two hours for a bus to take us to the airport. Port security, I think, just finally told the bus drivers to take this group to LaGuardia and this group to JFK. It was total chaos and actually scary! As they let more people off the boat, the crowd grew larger and everyone was upset! I don't know if I will ever take another cruise, but if I do, Norwegian will be last choice.
