We chose this cruise because it went to Costa Rica where neither of us have been, The Panama Canal which neither of us have been to either. We haven't been to Half Moon Cay either. My wife once went to Grand Cayman more than 30 years ago though. My wife has mobility problems and the many sea days appealed to us.
We have been on this ship before, as the Carnival Triumph three times. So this was our fourth time on this vessel although it has been remade since. The embarkation process went smoothly. Did notice that keys to staterooms are no longer given out at embarkation. Stateroom attendant leaves key at stateroom. Can be bad if wrong person gets it. They no longer take picture and use picture on passport for identification. Staterooms weren't ready so we dropped off carry on luggage and went to Lido Deck for refreshment.
You will find things about our stateroom in the stateroom section below.
Stateroom was nice, we had an extended balcony on the aft of the ship. On our first cruise on the Carnival Triumph we had a similar type stateroom on our first cruise for our tenth anniversary. In fact we were a few doors down. The room stewards were average at best and at times left us without soap, didn't leave floor mats down at the shower, and wasn't going to leave a sharps container. We got one the day after boarding instead of being there when we arrived. One morning when we ordered a room service breakfast it didn't come. The service wasn't up to Carnival standards of the past. Maybe they were still working out kinks since the refurbishment of the ship.
We took an excursion to see the island last year. We walked around the area near the ship, shopped, then went back to the ship.
We took the tender to get to Half Moon Cay. Started to walk around the island then we found a place to sit. We went into shed that sprayed mist around. Shopped in stores then went back to ship.
