The Pride of America is an old ship and a small one. Compared to the beautiful Hawaiian Islands this ship definitely did not compare. The crew does their very best to make the most of what they have to work with however, the food and on board activities need to be stepped up.
I have no complaints with embarkation and disembarkation - it was fast and efficient. We did have to wait a couple of hours to get into our rooms. That too was fine considering the crew has to work fast after the previous passengers get off. When we did get to our cabins, we were surprised to find how small they were. This was our 11th cruise (first on NCL, previous cruises were with Carnival) so we are used to tight living quarters, but this was below expectations. We had a balcony, but that too was smaller than Carnival balconies. The cabin layout was awkward and travelling with kids made it harder to get used to. The menu at the main dinning room was mediocre - once again comparing it to Carnival where we have always enjoyed a variety of flavors from different cultures around the world. The Pride of America seems to cater a safer palate and hesitates to venture beyond it's comfort zone.
We tried the East West and Brazilian and sushi restaurants. Once again, the fare was OK, nothing to rave about.
Waikiki beach is beautiful!
try the Ululuani shave ice at Kona beach.
