We took the Danube River cruise from Budapest to Regensburg with a group of friends who travel several times a year with each other. This was our first river cruise after more than a decade of ocean and sea cruises. The Danube cruise, the Viking Egil – and the staff – were wonderful and a very different experience!

We took the pre-cruise and post cruise options in both Budapest and Prague and would encourage others to take advantage of these options. Viking made our travel to Europe easy and much less expensive than had we booked on our own, and the arrangements worked out well for us to enjoy a full day on our first day in Budapest.

Getting on board (and disembarkation) were both handled smoothly and quickly and made our lives easier. As opposed to boarding a large ocean vessel, the Viking Egil’s crew were quick to load and unload and we were able to get to our cabins and change within minutes of boarding.

Port Reviews

Nuremberg

We took the Nuremburg City tour in the afternoon, which included both bus and walking, the castle and the city itself - with enough free time to see a few more sites on our own and get a happy hour drink before returning to the ship for our farewell dinner.

Regensburg

We did two tours here, the Regensburg Walking tour int he morning - which featured a beautiful medieval city; and an afternoon excursion to Weltenburg Abbey and the Danube Narrows which included a stop at an amazing monument, a boat trip to the narrows, and a visit, tour and beerfest at the Abbey.
