Sail Date: Oct 2017

We chose this cruise because we like NCL, we wanted to travel this specific week, and did not want to go to the Caribbean due storms. Also, this one left from NYC, which was an easy drive for us. As it turned out, parking was $40 a day, so we could have flown to Miami for about the same price, had we left from there.

The service on this ship is exceptional. The staff simply cannot do enough to please. Having sailed on the larger NCL trips quite a few times, it seems this smaller one gives them more time maybe but in any event they were wonderful.

The entertainment was OK. Not fabulous but pretty good. Because we were in the Haven, we had access to the reserved Haven section for any show, which is really nice.

Cabin Review

Cabin Deluxe Owner's Suite

This suite was absolutely incredible. It is mid ship facing forward and the living area is floor to ceiling windows in an arc. The cabin is apparently quite changed from the reviews prior to the ship refurb earlier this year. Note that you do not have a private jacuzzi out on the deck or a private sun deck like I read about in the past. You have two small decks, one to either side with lounge chairs. We didn't use them much because it was cold. And often stormy or rainy. The TV's are large and great. Two things were disappointing. The bed is not in its own room. You can only separate from the living room via a curtain. It worked OK for us but not the best for sleeping when there are 4 in there. And there is only one bathroom. There is a powder room, so the only need to share is for showers, so it works, but it would have been easy to just put a shower in the powder room and make it all so much more convenient. These are minor issues though compared to the magnificence of this suite. As soon as you hand your room key to anyone on the ship you are immediately recognized as being in this suite and are treated accordingly. The suite is accessed by a fairly long, private staircase. No one else has access to the staircase It is just for the Black Diamond Suite. And it is grand.Note: If you cannot do steps easily do not get this suite! It was nice because msot of the specialty restaurants are on Level 13, one flight down. Very convenient. You get a choice of pillows and the mattress is amazing. There are black out drapes or you can sleep with the drapes open and wake up to those views. You can see out, by the way, but no one can see into the cabin. When you reserve this cabin you are asked what kind of liquor you want and they bring it to the cabin in a liter bottle complete with ANY mixers you wish. The drink package came with the suite. There are not enough superlatives to describe this stunning suite, decorated in neutrals, black and with a ton of wood. We spent a lot of time just hanging out in there it was so luxurious and nice. The butler is there in an instant with anything you need or request. Room service is no additional charge and we did use it a few times.

Port Reviews

Charlottetown (Prince Edward Island)

We just walked around and then got some lobster. Beautiful town.

Quebec City

Stunning city, lots of things to see and do. And buy.

Halifax

Walked around the town, took a free little train, got some delish fresh oysters, decent shopping.

Sydney (Nova Scotia)

The thing to do in this port is get to Baddeck to the Alexander Graham Bell museum, a real highlight of the trip. Best way to do that is to reserve a car but it has to be done WAY ahead, which we failed to do. So we hired a driver. Working out great and we got to see a lot of fall color on the beautiful drive.
