I am 65, newly retired, and had never been to Paris, so decided this was the perfect time. I couldn't find anyone to go with me since I decided in March to go in June, but Viking was offering a really good single supplement fare. I opted for the pre-extension trip to Paris, three days, and it was fabulous even if *quite* hot. Here there was no help as far as the hotel single supplement; I had to pay for both people which made the hotel quite expensive. Still, I really wanted the extra time in the city. Most of the people I ended up hanging out with during the cruise were those who also did the Paris add-on as we got to know each other then. The cruise was really nice with good stops. The only thing I wish we could have done was go to St. Malo. It's far, I know, but I really, really want to go there and I was so close. Giverney was jam packed with people. It was hard to really enjoy the gardens for all the people. My favorite village was Petite Andelys. The hike to the castle at the top is a true hike. I thought we should have stopped a couple times instead of just once for everyone to catch their breath. But it's the village itself I liked so much, not the castle. It's just beautiful! The light and sound show at the Rouen cathedral was incredible and a highlight of the trip.
Since I signed on at the last minute, my cabin was what was left over. I called it "the basement" since most of the cabin was below water level and the window was way high. I have no complaints though as I knew exactly what I was getting and it was offered at a good rate. It was still very comfortable and I was alone, didn't have to share it with anyone. The heated floors in the bathroom are wonderful.
