It's Alaska. Everyone should make this trip to see Alaska - especially since so much of this cruise is to areas that are difficult or impossible to access any other way. A previously positive experience with Holland America saw us booking this cruise to Alaska many months ago with them. Our previously experience was in Europe. Sadly we discovered the "passenger profile" of the American cruise is quite different than our experience in Europe. We were notified two days before the start of the cruise (in Vancouver) that this ship had experienced a Norwalk Virus outbreak on the previous segment. This was going to required "super cleaning" at Vancouver, hence a later boarding time. Unfortunately the "super cleaning" did not seem to do the trick. Our cruise too had a big Norovirus outbreak with many passengers renaming the ship the "ms Norodam". On check-in, unfortunately agents had been coached to mislead the passengers - our agent said there were "a couple cases" of Norwalk Virus on the previous cruise. I had already looked at the CDC website and could see that it was in fact 142 cases (and this was subsequently updated to 167). We saw very abhorrent behavior on our cruise - by passengers, and by staff who apparently no longer enforce any standards of dress or behavior. Stay away from the Lido Deck on these kinds of cruises - the low-end passenger and their flocks of undisciplined children were likely a key element in the virus outbreak. This was also alluded to by the ship's captain in one of his daily talks. "Formal Night" in the dining room - we saw shorts, baseball caps, and other downmarket wardrobe and the Maitré d refused to intercept any of them. Is there a better option to Alaska on another cruise line? We'd like to go again sometime, but not in this kind of chaos.

Cabin Review

Signature Superior Verandah Suite
Cabin SS 6103
Cabin is spacious, but decor and fittings at the end of their useful life. Water pressure in the shower was low. Dislike the flimsy shower curtain.

Cabin had "crunchy carpet" so I wouldn't walk around without shoes.
Upper Verandah Deck Inside Cabins, Outside Cabins, Balcony Cabins, Suite Cabins
