The service staff on the Summit was outstanding, a distinctive improvement over previous cruises on this ship. We submitted written compliments for several of the crew. Our cabin steward was excellent and made ever effort to make our time enjoyable in our cabin.
The quality of the entertainment on the Summit has dropped significantly. The comedians in the Theater were occasionally humorous, and occasionally crude and vulgar, even though small children were in the audience. The sound level in the theater is extremely loud and the singers were basically screaming, not singing. Even songs that we knew were so loud that hearing distinctive words was impossible. Apparently the sound engineer should read about amplifier levels and audio distortion.
We have cruised on this ship four times since 2012. another MAJOR complaint we filed with the Guest Relations personnel concerns the loud "music" played in the Atrium. Calling it music is an inappropriate description. Due to the extreme decibel levels, it is almost impossible to talk with the personnel in the Guest Services, Tour Services, Captain Club, or other services venues in the atrium area. Large speakers have been placed facing the staircase from Deck 4 to Deck 3. Whenever there is a line of waiting passengers (inevitable on boarding day) for consulting with Guest Services, the so-called music is deafening, to say the least. Even the personnel I spoke with at Guest Services confirmed that they too are very unhappy about this situation. However, they admitted that they cannot bring this to management's attention for fear of their jobs or performance assessment. What a sad situation for them! One Guest Services staff member expressed their frustration with having to listen to this overwhelming noise for four hours or more at a time. We filed complaints about this twice during our cruise. Eventually the Concierge Director called our cabin to discuss this matter. We were assured that this problem would be addressed promptly. The loud, deafening "music" was still going full bore on the last sailing day. Consequently, we will likely never sail on the Summit again.
Our cabin was very clean and efficient. Unfortunately, the in-room refrigerator does not keep contents cold. Apparently this is a cost-reduction by Celebrity. Perhaps the refrigerators in all cabins should be removed, since they aren't capable of or adjusted for cooling properly anyway. Otherwise, there were no surprises. Our steward was a major plus for us, always courteous, with a happy demeanor, and solicitous.
