My husband and I were celebrating our 40th wedding anniversary as well as a special birthday and decided to celebrate by bringing our family on a cruise. We chose the Gem because of its itinerary. We were very pleased with the ship. It was very clean. We stayed in a mini-suite, which was much larger than we expected. We had the ultimate dining package and found the specialty restaurants to be very good. The restaurant staff were very accommodating to the requests of our young granddaughters. The staff also were very kind in bringing special cakes to our celebrations and decorated our stateroom for both the anniversary and birthday. We found the entertainment to be very good. We took part in family activities with our grandchildren, saw excellent shows, took part in games, attended pool side parties, listened to music, and went to late night entertainment. The ship had many activities to keep you busy. A major reason for going on this cruise was to visit Disney World. We took the ship shuttle to the park and it was very efficient. However, I believe we could have been longer in this port. The entire family enjoyed the out island in the Bahamas and the girls really enjoyed the eco tour. We all thought that the restaurants and bars on the island closed too soon. The last tender back to the ship was at 6:00 and by 4:00 the restaurants and bars were closed. As we rented a cabana for the day, we were disappointed by this. We enjoyed the glass bottom boat tour in Nassau, but think we could have stayed longer in this port. In general our vacation on the Gem was a wonderful way to celebrate and spend time with our family.
The mini-suite was large, with plenty of closet space. There was a nice size desk, which I used as a make-up table. The storage drawers were large. The balcony was large, with 2 chairs and a small table.
