I should preface this by saying my wife and I have done over 50 cruises which of course has a bearing on how I rate a ship. However I try to be honest and think of others who have not been as fortunate as us. This is my opinion of the Celebrity Summit. It was put in service in 2001. I marvel at the fact that a ship has some motors running 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. One would think there would be more break downs. On our 7 day trip to Bermuda, the sailing was smooth all the way down and there was a little "motion of the ocean" one day while returning to Bayonne, N.J.

As for beauty, the ship is very AVERAGE. Unlike the newer Celebrity Solstice class ships, it does not have a large atrium. (center area) We had a normal size balcony room and it was sufficient. The TV in the room appeared to be rather old and on some stations it was blurry. That did not bother me too much because I don't cruise to watch TV. However I wanted to see some sports results. While on the balcony, we could not help noticing that part of the railing was rusting. Again, age and salty sea water have a hand in that. But since we were in Bermuda while they were gearing up for the America's Cup races, we enjoyed watching it all from our balcony.

I know some people want to know about the food. Once again I will use the word AVERAGE. The meals were plentiful but nothing one could consider memorable. Being a pasta fan, I tried it twice in the buffet area and found it hard with sauce not like mama's. Read more
