This was our ninth cruise, all on RCCL...and we have yet to find a reason to book with anyone else. The cruise was a special occasion...high school spring break for our youngest son and several of his friends. The teenagers started the planning months ago and ended up recruiting us to be the travel guides (Go ahead...twist our arms!). Our party ultimately numbered 8 seniors and 6 parents, but only 3 of us were cruising veterans. For the first time we booked directly through the cruise line. We traveled to FLL in three groups and our party of 6 spent the night at the Spring Hill Suites in Dania Beach. What we didn't expect was the complete madhouse in the morning with no fewer than 9 cruise ships departing Fort Lauderdale that day! The hotel shuttles did an awesome job, however, sorting out the mass of people and their bags...and everyone ended up at the right ship at the right time. Ours was the Navigator of the Seas, our first time on this particular ship, though we had been on several others of the Voyager class. We quickly joined up with our group, and check in was a piece of cake...we had done a great job prepping everyone during the cruise planning! The ship was clean and neat, and the cruise staff was absolutely wonderful. Our group's stateroom attendants were Debbie and Marius, and they did a great job. We had two dining room tables at the early seating, with all 8 of the kids at one and the parents at the other. Our waiter and assistant waiter, Vijay and Christian, were extremely efficient and friendly. The food was excellent, as usual. Our first stop was Ocho Rios, Jamaica, where the teenagers all wanted to climb Dunn's River Falls. The available tours booked very quickly, but we were able to get in one with a mini-tour of the area, the Falls, then some time for shopping. Roseanne, our guide, treated us well and kept us on schedule. We all got soaked in the cold water, which didn't seem to bother at least one of the kids (A foreign-exchange student from Norway). Everyone had a blast! The weather was great, sunny and in the low 80's, and the forecast of rain never materialized. Our other port stop was in Grand Cayman, where we planned no tours, but simply wanted to hang out on 7 Mile Beach after some souvenir shopping. We rode the bus for $2.50 each way and spent the afternoon soaking up some rays and relaxing by the water. A couple of the parents rented kayaks for the seniors to paddle around for awhile before (all too soon!) we headed back to the ship. The ship's entertainment was all very good, with the ice show being exceptional! I have always enjoyed watching ice skating...but Hula-Hooping while skating? Wow! Revolution (the Beatles show) was incredible! There has also been a very noticeable improvement in the Royal Caribbean Singers and Dancers over our last 2 cruises. There is no weak link to be found...they were great! Our cruise ended where it all began, back in Fort Lauderdale. However, we were now the only ship in port and it all looked very empty! We had a fairly early flight out of FLL at 11:15, so we "humped" our own bags and were smoothly processed off the ship by 8:15. It was a great day for flying and we were all back home in Tulsa that afternoon. Congratulations Royal Caribbean! The other parents (and teenagers) have now been bitten but the cruising bug. Everyone wants to know when we are going again...
