My family, which includes my husband and my nine year old son, enjoy taking our vacation during the cold winter months to escape the snow and enjoy the warm waters of the Caribbean. This was our first time leaving from the Galveston port. We chose it because we wanted to drive instead of having the extra expense of a flight. The drive was about 10 hours from where we live in SW Missouri. We did stay the night before hand at the La Quinta on Seawall in Galveston which had free parking and breakfast. They provide a shuttle for a fee but for our convenience, we chose the Park and Cruise so it would be easier to get started on the drive home once we got back to port.
This was our 3rd Carnival cruise and our first aboard the Magic. We loved it.
I'll start off by mentioning the food. After reading a lot of reviews beforehand, I was nervous that I would be disappointed with the selection and quality of the food but we were all pleasantly surprised. Every night we ate in the Northern Lights dining room where our servers were always happy and very attentive. Our food was always hot and well seasoned.
Perfectly located for us. My husband like to be able to get coffee easily in the morning so it was just a couple quick flights of stairs and you were in the buffet. Camp Ocean and the Tides pool were also very accessible. So much so we let our son sign himself in and out since our cabin was easily found. I don't remember ever hearing any noise like elevators, boat noise, or other people. Normally we are on decks 1 or 2 but we were very happy being on deck 8 this time.
