We unfortunately did not get to enjoy all of the Carnival Liberty on our New Year's Eve cruise. This was NOT Carnival's fault, but our eldest child became severely ill while on board. His illness had nothing to do with being on board. We have been on almost 20 cruises and this is the first time we have ever had to have our trip interrupted. Upon the ship's doctor's recommendation, we had to have part of our family leave the ship by ambulance in Nassau, Bahamas. The rest of us finished the cruise onboard to return to our car in Port Canaveral. This experience gave me a chance to see Carnival in action when something goes really wrong.

First of all, Carnival was very professional about helping us with the arrangements. From the medical staff to the purser's representative, we were handled with care and concern. They arranged for us to be able to make phone calls to the hospital in the Bahamas from the ship. They also arranged for us to have priority debarkation to help us be able to get back to help with arrangements that had to be made. Carnival has also called several times to check on our son after the cruise. They certainly earned our loyalty and appreciation with their compassion for our situation.

Since we were taking care of a very sick child for much of the cruise, the only thing I can say about the Liberty is that it was a nice ship with most of what I like to find on a ship. The food in the main dining room was outstanding. My brother, who is an experienced cruiser and foodie, was very impressed with the food. This was his first Carnival cruise and he was actually shocked with how good it was. I only have 2 complaints about the ship itself. One is that the floor plan necessitates the use of different elevators to get to the main dining rooms. The other is the lack of a thermal suite. Not deal breakers though. All in all, if I had the opportunity to cruise on the Liberty again, I would do it.
