We chose this cruise because AMA made us an offer we could not refuse after they had to change an itinerary due to bridge construction. With discounts and credits available, we chose this trip despite it's stopping in two ports we had earlier visited. We had been on AmaPrima during its inaugural season and I found myself looking for signs of wear and tear after I noticed how pristine the ship looked. Other than some chairs which looked a bit tired, the ship was immaculate. The cabin was so clean and well maintained that we could have been the first cruisers to occupy it. Because it was a river cruise, the cabin was not large, but we had no problem with storage or getting around. The crew was as professional and courteous as we had come to expect from AMA and Rolf, the cruise director, was professional, helpful and consistently good humored. The shore excursions were well organized and informative. Also, the excursions were not over scheduled, leaving us some good downtime and making daylight cruising along the beautiful Moselle river a regular part to the cruise. The food was up to the usual AMA high standards except for the chef's special slow cooked lamb; that was the best meal I have ever had on a river cruise ship and among the best I have ever had on any ship. This was my fourth river cruise on AmaWaterways and every one of them has surpasses my expectations. Everything on this cruise was so well planned - the ports and shore excursions, the meals with a great array of food to satisfy any taste. The staff were always available to answer our question or provide whatever help we requested. Shore excursions are included. Often there are several to choose from - bike tours, gentle walking to more rigorous ones - something for everyone. As for the meals, there was always something for all tastes. The breakfast buffet had a wide assortment of foods. Special orders were available too. Lunch was served in the dining room with a light lunch alternative in the lounge. Seated dinners were always in the dining room with an optional chefs table restaurant available by reservation. Wine, beer and soft drinks were included with lunch and dinner. I hope to return for another AmaWaterways Cruise. I know I won’t be disappointed and neither will you. Read Less

My sister and I just got back from our Tulip Time cruise on the AMAPrima. We started and ended in Amsterdam, with stops in Middelburg and Rotterdam, and in Ghent and Antwerp in Belgium. Each port had several included excursions available. All walking tours offered groups for active, normal, or “gentle” walkers so people could take part regardless of their physical ability. One of our favorite excursions was the Belgian Chocolate, Beer and Waffle Tasting in Antwerp. Of course, the highlight of the trip was the morning spent at the Keukenhof Gardens to view the magnificent tulips, hyacinths, and daffodils in full bloom. This was our third river cruise, and our second on AMAWaterways. The ship was in beautiful condition and spotlessly clean. Our cabin (Cat.C, 228) was quite a bit smaller than on our first cruise (AMALegro) but since we didn’t spend a lot of time there, it was quite sufficient. The service is impeccable...I don’t think the crew knows the word “no”! The food was excellent and plentiful...as my clothes can attest to! I liked the fact that in addition to complementary beverages at lunch and dinner, they offered a complementary “happy hour” for one hour prior to dinner. They also had a special reception for returning cruisers. We opted for the pre-cruise hotel, arriving in Amsterdam 2 days prior to embarkation. The hotel, the NH Grand Hotel Krasnapolsky, was modern and spotless. It was perfectly located right on Dam Square in center—city Amsterdam. As part of the pre-cruise stay, we had an excursion to Haarlem on Friday, and a canal cruise on our way to the ship on Saturday. We were especially impressed with the embarkation and disembarkation processes. In both instances, we put our bags outside our rooms but after they were collected we were each asked to identify our bags in the holding room to be sure all our bags were there before loading onto the transfer buses. This was reassuring, since on our first river cruise (on another line) our bags were left behind at the hotel and we weren’t aware of it until we got to the airport. Fortunately, the cruise manager made quick call to the hotel and our bags were brought to us at the airport by taxi. AMA’s system prevented such an occurrence. Special recognition goes to our Cruise Manager, John Riley. He had everything planned to the smallest detail and as a result, everything went smoothly. He was always available for assistance and was even seen dancing the night away with the guests. With 2 AMAWaterways cruises under our belts, this will be our river cruise line of choice in the future. Read Less

We choose this cruise because it was a great value with a 2 for 1 price. we spent 2 weeks traveling around Europe before boarding the cruise March 23, 2019. We spent 3 days exploring our departure city Amsterdam before the cruise. We were so ready to relax and be pampered! Embarkation was a breeze. Our cabin was plenty roomy and very nicely decorated. Loved our balcony and sitting area! The food was excellent at every meal. The wine was very good - enjoyed the mixed drinks at happy hour. My husband would have liked a few more choices of beer. After all we were in Europe, which is known for it's beer! The nightly entertainment was enjoyable. It was so fun working off dinner on the dance floor! The service was amazing!! All the staff were so friendly and caring. Frederico Martinez was a very organized and efficient cruise director. We can't say enough positive about the amazing cruise ports we visited and wonderful shore excursions. (Although a little more shopping time would have been fun!) WE would go again in a heartbeat and hope Ama will offer more sales to entice repeat customers. Read Less

Wanted to take a Christmas Market Cruise through central Europe, stopping at various cities and markets along the way. We weren't aware until a couple weeks before sailing that many major rivers in Europe were experiencing RECORD drought and thus very low water levels in rivers. This almost meant our itin. would be severely changed or curtailed for obvious reasons. The previous 3 months of cruising on the Rhine did experience altered cruising. However, just 4 days before sailing and after some much needed rainfall, it was announced that we Would be able to sail the originally booked itinerary! Crew couldn't have been nicer! Food was very good, portions slightly small, but the cruise was a huge success. Great cabin as well. Unfortunately about 1/3 of the originally booked psgrs had cancelled after the possible changes to itin. were announced. So, the other 2/3 had a wonderful time, certainly not overcrowded. Ports were all excellent between Basel, Switz. and Amsterdam. Weather cooperated and no problems navigating the Rhine. We were so lucky! Loved the Christmas Markets, we had done similar before in central Europe, but never from a ship. The markets are so fun - if you tolerate the cold. It's not an experience that most tourists can identify with and the markets there are all similar and still unique. Small gym, and unfortunately most psgrs went to bed right after dinner. Evening entertainment was very good, most psgrs didn't get to enjoy it. Of course, no casino on most river cruises. Love the AMAPrima and the Christmas Markets! Read Less

We chose the Rhine & Moselle Fairytales Cruise. It was our first river cruising experience. Due to extremely low water levels because of draught conditions in much of Europe since spring, our planned itinerary had to be changed after our first day destination in Cologne, Germany. We all were all initially very disappointed, but we soon realized that we were extremely fortunate to have chosen AMA Waterways and to have our Captain, Cruise Director Elia, and our entire crew on the AMA Prima. Within the first 24 hours after announcing that our planned itinerary was no longer possible, they informed us that they would be able to keep us cruising for the entire 11 day cruise, albeit on an entirely different itinerary. We would now be cruising various sights in The Netherlands and Belgium. In addition, they informed us that if we opted to continue on the Netherlands/Belgium Cruise, all of our money for this cruise would be credited to use on any other AMA cruise of our choice in the next 3 years. As a result, we had a wonderful 11 day cruise to beautiful locations such as Bruges, Ghent, Antwerp, Arnhem, Delft, Edam, The Hague, Amsterdam, & Dusseldorf, among several others. "On the fly", AMA and our crew set up terrific ports, tours, and sites to visit. Behind the scenes, they took on fresh local food and water and you would never know that this wasn't our original itinerary. We all came to call it the "Mystery Cruise", as early on, we didn't know what our eventual destinations would be. We had a terrific time, met some fantastic new friends and the food, accommodations and crew were truly outstanding. Best of all, is that we can now look forward to returning for another cruise of our choice completely for free! The crew "bent over backwards" to accommodate our every desire. No water, wine or beer was ever left "untopped" for more than a few seconds! The crew was incredibly kind and made every effort to make our stay as comfortable and fun as conceivably possible. All the tours were excellent with knowledgeable guides, on time and comfortable transportation. There literally were no negatives we can voice. We continued on to the Zurich/Lucerne extension with AMA and had an equally fantastic time, with great accommodations, tours and seamless transportation and scheduling. We can't express how pleased we were with the AMA experience and would whole-heartedly recommend it to others. Read Less

Due to low water levels our itinerary was revised and we were not able to continue along The Rhine and Moselle rivers ending at Basel, Switzerland. We turned around after Cologne, Germany, stopped in Düsseldorf, Antwerp, Ghent, and Bruges, Belgium which were all beautiful spots. We then went back to Holland with stops and visits to Delft, The Hague, Rotterdam, Utrecht, and Edam ending back in Amsterdam. The crew did an amazing job communicating changes and amending the itinerary with great new destinations. Tours were more limited but we still had an amazing trip with excellent service and met many wonderful people that made the cruise a memorable vacation. Food options were many with great breakfast buffets but also the option to order from the menu a la carte. Lunches also had menu selections, salad bars, as well as a station that changied every day. I loved all the wellness classes on board that changed daily (ie. stretching, yoga, Pilates, Zumba, core strengthening) and the free happy hours every day. Entertainment was limited but they did have some entertainment come on board. We had a room with a balcony and also a French balcony and the size was good. I would highly recommend cruising with AMA Waterways for their professionalism and high quality service and standards. Read Less

After cruising on the Danube with AMA (chosen based on specific itinerary), we went with Avalon for a cruise in Holland/Belgium (also based on specific itinerary). In comparing the two, we realized that we enjoyed AMA much better and after thinking about why we decided AMA had a much wider range of everything - more varied excursions, more varied food (such as local receipes) and more active options for younger folks, particularly bicycling which is what we like. This time we were not the youngest guests and the on deck fitness classes with Andre were wonderful. It is quite a treat to do yoga in the sun on the top deck while cruising past lovely scenery. AMA pays attention to every detail and each staff member is on top of their game. It is a week of no hassles and being pampered. The local guides were excellent as well. Marc Coll, the Cruise Manager on our trip even took the effort to arrange for a second bike tour in the afternoon of one day when the morning one was full. The excursion ended up being one of our favorites. We were affected only slightly be low water but since there are so many excursion options when one is not available there are many other interesting ones to choose from. It is a nice option for families (adult children and parents) because people can choose different excursions during the day and then come back together at meals to converse. There are different levels of activities for different walking speeds or people who were like a slower pace to take more photographs. The QuietVox systems allow everyone in a walking tour to hear the guide easily. There are many places on the ship to view the scenery - the top deck, the front, the lounge - and all the windows are very clean. Read Less

Where do we start, Amazing trip/experience with AMA? Using our travel agent /AMA we added 1 night in Zurich, 2 nights in Basel at the beginning and 2 more nights in Amsterdam at the end of our cruise. The experience on the AMA Prima was 2nd to none, from receiving our ‘Booking Summary” and reviewing it, we felt this trip was going to be special. Then checking into our 1st hotel, seeing/experiencing “Basel” and seeing the docking of River Cruise Ships from our room, we loved it. The hotel provided us with a short transfer to the dock to board/check in on the AMA Prima & there we knew we were in for a very special cruise/vacation. The food was amazing all 3 sittings, the “Chef Table “gave us an experience to remember. The main Lounge/bar was an excellent meeting place, entertainment in the evening, snacks & cold/hot beverages most of the day. The staff was attentive to guest details, tours, dining, safety on board and made the less than 150 guests on board have what they required to make their trip a lasting experience. The daily tours were included with attention to detail for the visitor and the area. My only negative comment is not to do with the Staff on the AMA Prima but with AMA vacation operations. AMA’s selection of hotels for the pre/post cruise were only at one budget level (highest). I found that insensitive & arrogant not fitting with what we experienced on the “AMA Prima” Read Less

We were wowed by the crew especially the cruise manager “Marcia”. The food was excellent and suited all types of tastes and appetites along with the abundant poured wines paired with all the meals .(except breakfast Thank God)! We saw lots of other cruise companies as we traveled up the Rhine and our ship always looked the best and had active guests and crews having fun on deck all the time . Others cruise ships seemed to not have the same energy . Our on shore activities were great especially the hired by ama tour guides in each port , turely amazing and so knowledgeable and fun to follow through village listening to all the history and amusing details of our visit . My 6th cruise with AmaWaterways. My previous cruises on other ships in their fleet were spectacular. I either had French or walkout balconies. There were many times I would sit out and watch the world go by while sipping a glass of wine.A perfect way to see the castles on the Rhein. Being a solo passenger, they would always wave the single supplement so I could enjoy a room on the Cello or Violin deck. This trip was different. Rooms on these decks were no longer made available for waving single supplements. Only the lower class cabins were offered now. To some, this may not have been a problem, but to a person as myself who is just over 5 feet tall, looking out the porthole was difficult as you would need to stand on a chair to accomplish this task. The next problem was the narrow staircase . My first attempt at climbing up to dinner, I somehow trip on a step. I wasn't hurt....just embarrassed. Staff was still excellent, but this lost its appeal to travel with this cruise line. Take heart though...excellent for just starting out with river cruising, but definitely a disaster for seasoned travelors Read Less

This was our first river cruise which was recommended by our travel agent (Above and Beyond Travel). We cannot say enough about this experience. It was amazing from start to finish. The service was impeccable from housekeeping, food, excursions, staff, etc. I highly recommend AMA. They assisted with a food allergy which I alerted them to prior to our arrival. They went out of their way to accommodate this. Everyone went out of their way to assist. Marcia was our cruise director. She never missed a beat and truly cared about each and every passenger. Nadia was our housekeeper for our stateroom. She was awesome. The excursions were all included - so no additional charge. We picked the more active levels and were very pleased. The guides provided wonderful tours and enhanced our experience. You will not be disappointed. We can't wait to take another trip with AMA and have shared with many friends. Read Less

We started our journey two days prior to our 10 night cruise on the AMAPrima by acclimating to the time change (9 hour time difference from CA) in Zurich, something we highly recommend regardless of your starting disembarkation point. Get acclimated to the time change then hit the cruise. The train from Zurich to Basel took us through the heart of Zurich to the pastoral countryside on the way to Basel which was a short one hour ride. Upon arriving to our disembarkation point in Basel we were warmly greeted by the crew who took our luggage to be delivered on board for us to our cabin. Our cabin was located on the upper level with a balcony and french balcony. We sat outside everyday on the balcony as our preferred morning ritual that was quiet and scenic and very fun when going through the various locks. The cabin was spacious with a European Queen bed (King size bed in U.S) that was perfectly soft yet firm with great pillows for us side sleepers. You can spend time in your room and it is perfectly acceptable, but the ship offers so much more with the sun deck, rear private dining room (open for day use and a perfect place for a game of cards. Because of the incredible weather, we spent most of our time on the front bow in the shade, or on the Sun deck (which had to close on a number of days due to low bridges and locks) or the upper deck in front of the wheel house which was an ideal spot for our cruise through the middle Rhine gorge where dozens of castles dot the hillsides Each night we were greeted with happy hour and signature cocktails in advance of dinner and made the most of it each night with free cocktails expertly crafted by our new friend Namenia, and Sebastian who were great bartenders and hosts each night. We chose AMA because of their culinary rating above many of the competitive cruise lines, and we were not disappointed. Each night there was a Chef's Recommended Menu along with standard offerings served tableside by excellent waitstaff. When it comes to the wine and beer, you never have to ask for it because it just shows up and keeps flowing. Two days in and the staff knew our likes and dislikes and anticipated our desires. Truly a great dining experience each day. Breakfast and lunch offer similar offerings with extraordinary items and standard fare. The chef’s table dining room provides an intimate experience and not to be missed with an expert five course prix fixe menu delivered to perfection each night (same menu assures that all passengers have a chance to dine here). Onshore excursions were expertly guided by local historians and enthusiasts who all spoke English and told insightful stories with details of history, origin and thinking of the time. The guided tours were fun, but we also chose on more than one occasion to make our own way and to experience the local color more directly. Something to note is that of all of the shore excursions there are only three that require you to bus to the tour location; Riquewihr, Strasbourg and Heidelberg. Otherwise you can walk off the ship and you are in the heart of your destination. Each day allows for some form of excursion off ship, as much of the cruising is at night. We are already looking forward to our next cruise with AMA on the Danube. Nest time we plan to go with one or two other couples as this first trip was just my wife and me. We want to share the experiance with others. Read Less

This was my second cruise with AmaWaterways. I had such an amazing experience the first time, that the bar was set pretty high for this one. It did not disappoint in the least. The ship is beautiful. The food and service are top notch. On this cruise, there was a wellness instructor, Andre. He was warm, knowledgeable, and lots of fun. I didn't choose this trip because of the wellness activities, and really, didn't see myself participating in them. I jumped right in, however, and regardless of one's fitness level, he made sure everyone got what they needed. I had never been to a Zumba class before, and loved it! On any cruise, I think it's the passengers (and the crew) that can make or break a trip. We met such fun and interesting people and laughed nonstop with them for 11 days. The lounge is a fun and lively place to hang out in the evening. The entertainer on this trip was not my favorite; he lacked personality (could have just been shy), but he did try to play what we wanted to hear. Eleven straight nights of YMCA doesn't quite cut it, however. The entertainers that came on board, however, were very good. The excursions and ports were delightful. One particular highlight was the Museum of Mechanical Musical Instruments in Rudisheim. What a treat this was!! I would definitely take another AMA river cruise. I have nothing to compare it to as I've only been on two, and both with AMA, but they totally got just about everything right. Read Less

If you like cocktail parties you will like a river cruise as there are endless opportunities to talk about yourself! Every meal starts with "Where are you from?" "Is this your first cruise?" followed quickly by questions about your past work, life, children etc. We started out with two days in Amsterdam and loved the city. Boarded and were royally welcomed by the crew and the TERRIFIC cruise director; Martina. Our upper deck cabin was comfortable and house keeping was great. They did daily laundry for us as well. Meals were good, the food looked wonderful but could have tasted better. Maybe the blandness was to accommodate the senior stomachs aboard? Huge choices and lashings of OK wine. A concern voiced by many was why the local markets not made more use of? I bought delicious fruit on land and tasted the local wines. There were some local wines offered on board but not enough considering the regions we were sailing through. One big disappointment was the fact that the sun deck and pool could only be used for a couple of days at the beginning and end of the trip as those areas had to be flattened to pass under low bridges. Also we often docked next to one or two other ships so could not sit out on the balcony as we were inches away from the next ship. These were two things I had been looking forward to. The excursions were adequate to excellent and mostly the guides were good. Europe is full of stairs, steps and cobble stones, wear sneakers! The evening entertainment was good, singers, performers and disco nights. Service on the ship is EXCELLENT no matter what you want everyone bends over backwards to accommodate. Two days in Budapest finished the trip on a high note. I am glad we did this trip. Some countryside and villages were amazing. Read Less

Sometimes when you cruise multiple times on a particular line, current expectations don't meet past cruise experiences. Not so with AMA. Each cruise is as good if not better than previous ones. Our 11 day Rhine & Moselle Fairytales cruise was no exception. Everything from the service to the food to the cabin to the ship and personnel to the itinerary was impeccable and first class. AMA is in a class alone and can't imagine ever cruising Europe's rivers on another line. Dejean is one of the hardest working cruise managers we have ever been involved with. He was always pleasant and ready to engage in conservation or discuss cruise details. Captain Gerd is the most accessible captain we have known. Bigger than life personality, he would welcome you in the wheelhouse and loved to talk boat and navigation stuff. We really enjoyed getting to know him. Hotel manager, Patrice always greeted you with a smile and wanted to know if everything was alright with our cruise. His staff did a wonderful job. Maitre'd Pawel greeted us at in the dining room with a smile and a hearty handshake. Thanks again for your help in the grocery store in Kues. The variety and quality of food on the AMAPrima is awesome. Our cabin was perfect. We used both the balcony and the french balcony. A lot of room, storage space, big bathroom and comfortable beds. We were a little disappointed with the variety of entertainment, but knowing that this was the first cruise on this itinerary, it could be expected. We, however, enjoyed listening to Norbert's piano each evening...sometimes singing along or dancing. The AMAPrima has some of the friendliest staff we have experienced. All to a person greeted you with a smile, made each guest feel like family and wanted to make sure you were have a great cruise. The excursions were well planned as always and interesting. AMA makes this process very easy and Dejean carried out the plans very well. The AMAPrima as with all AMA ships is beautiful, clean and very functional. We regularly used the top deck lounges. We would highly recommend AMA when cruising Europe's rivers. You'll love an AMA ship experience. Thanks AMA for another fantastic cruise. Read Less

We boarded the AMAPrima in Amsterdam for a cruise of the Rhine River to Basil. This was our second AMA cruise, the previous being the Danube River cruise. We were immediately impressed with the hospitality of the entire crew. Each and every crew member we came in contact with was genuinely friendly and provided outstanding service to all the guests. On top of the list was the cruise director Dejan Stancic. Dejan was the 'face' of AMA and did a fantastic job of hosting the cruise. He took it upon himself to see to it that every passenger was pleased with the way the cruise was progressing. His daily briefing of the next day's agenda was thorough and enjoyable. The 'Fairytale' castles along the Rhine were fascinating. The land tours, both bus and walking were conducted by knowledgeable local guides and were educational. The dining room staff was attentive and efficient. The housekeeping staff worked to keep the cabins in good order. Overall, the trip was great. AMA should clone Dejan for all of their ships. I had cruised with Ama Waterways previously for a Christmas market cruise. That cruise was very nice and enjoyable, so I chose Ama Waterways again for my niece's cruise. I was expecting a nice cruise, but the crew and staff aboard the Ama Prima made this the best cruise ever! We enjoyed the food, drinks, excursions, entertainment and all the crew. It is a trip I will never forget. All the excursions were fun and informative. My favorites were the cable car in Rudesheim and Rhine Falls. The food was delicious. I enjoyed the lamb, and I usually don't care for lamb. My niece thoroughly enjoyed the cresants and cheesy rolls. Sebastian was spot on eith the wine recommendations. I enjoyed all the wines. I was content sitting on the sun deck soakung in the raus and cooling off in the pool. I looked forward to the wellness classes daily. One of the most enjoyable activities was the daily Sip and Sail! We had dinner at The Chef's table, and the experience wad amazing. I especially loved that they baked a birthday cake for my niece. Thank you Ama Waterways; especially the AMA Prima for making our holiday very enjoyable. I want to give a special recognition to our cruise manager, Dejan Stanic. He was the best!! Dejan went above and beyond to ensure the excursions went as planned, and Dejan worked tirelessly to ensure all passengers go to their destinations after disembarking. I could tell Dejan really cared about his job and the passengers. That is refreshing to see as many companies have forgotten how to provide excellent customer service. This cruise was chosen specifically because of the itinerary. It went from Amsterdam to Basel and for 11 days. Our cruise manager was Dejan Stancic and was absolutely one of the most fabulous and entertaining person! He made us smile and laugh each evening when he provided the passengers (guests) with previews and information for upcoming ports. He was very knowledgable and approachable so it was easy to ask questions of any kind that would help make your trip even better. The rest of the staff were absolutely awesome, all were friendly and smiling, we always looked forward to meals and just being anywhere on board because they made us feel like family quickly. The captain, crew and hotel manager were also very friendly. What a great time we had! The ports were fabulous (read the itinerary in the brochure) and there also was a few relaxing mornings on the ship so we did not need to rush as much like the seven day cruises would be. Of course, the views on the Rhine and Moselle were gorgeous and seeing the castles dotting the hillsides (as Dajan said, you would be seeing so many on each side of the ship that you would begin to feel like a ping pong ball!) This was truly a fairytale experience! The ship was beautiful, the cabins spotless and embarkation/disembarkation experiences were seamless. AmaCruising in Style! We just returned from the 8-day Tulip Time cruise with AmaWaterways. We began with a 2-night pre-cruise stay in Amsterdam at the Intercontinental Hotel...but that’s another whole review in itself. Let me just say it was delightful. The Cruise Director.... Our Cruise Director, Edward, actually was on hand to greet us when we arrived for our pre-Cruise stay in Amsterdam. He immediately made us feel like someone was there waiting for us to arrive and would be there to help in any way he could. He knew the city and gave us several things to do while we waited for our room to open. He even gave suggestions for nearby restaurants. On the AmaPrima, our ship, Edward continued to be available and able to handle all questions and or concerns such as: Should I buy bulbs while I’m here?, Where is a good place to get chocolate in Ghent? And what can you tell me about the AMA trip to Africa. I was amazed that while we were on excursions in the cities, he managed to check in with each group and see if anyone needed anything. He also encouraged immediate feedback about our excursions which makes me think that AmaWaterways works to continually improve the services they provide. The Ship Staff... Professional, friendly and courteous, aptly describes everyone from the Hotel Manager to the Waiters to the Housekeeping Staff. Rooms were spotless and service came while you were out at a meal or off-ship. I especially like being able to meet our housekeeper, Nadia, in person and talk with her. When I needed ice one morning, she saw me in the hall and immediately offered to get it for me. The waiters in the dining room made each meal a delight and were attentive to each person at the table. Everyone seemed genuinely interested in making sure you had everything you needed and were enjoying yourself. Staterooms, Food, Services & Excursions... Rooms were a great size with nice appointments. Thick, fluffy towels were a great size and included washcloths (not always the case in Europe). There was ample storage and hangers for clothes. Our rather large suitcases did not fit under the bed but did fit in the closet with room to hang clothes. Amenities included a room safe, hair dryer, toiletries (nice scent), computer to hear announcements, watch movies, or TV, listen to music and check on the weather and WiFi which had a few snags but was operating 95% of the time. We enjoyed the nightly Sip & Sail which featured a cocktail of the day and peanuts or pretzels to munch on, as well as a full bar. Drinks bought after dinner, were put on your bill. Nightly programs was top notch and included a variety of entertainers. I did not have one bad meal on the AmaPrima. There was always a variety of choices at each meal and often hard to make a decision. We were impressed with the Chef’s Dinner located in a small dining room at the rear of the ship. An elegant presentation and delicious meal made this a highlight for my husband and I. AmaWaterways provides excursions at no extra cost. There were 2 per day and each one tailored to the activity level if the participants. You could choose to be busy each day or not but every trip we took was very enjoyable and well worth the time. The Keukenhof Gardens trip was my favorite. And in conclusion... This was our first trip with AmaWaterways and we had a wonderful time in the Netherlands and Holland. I feel strongly that we will sail with them again and would recommend them to family and friends. Read Less

For 60 years my wife wanted to see the Tulips in Holland. The trip was amazing. The Kukenhoff Gardens are superb and possibly the best in the world. Our wonderful AMA experience began at the airport, with greeters to meet us and transfer both baggage and us to the ship. When we went on board the staff took over. The Cruise Director Edward Sengel was spectacular. He arranged everything, in spite of the difficult schedule because of the weather. He was extremely highly educated, his knowledge not only of the Netherlands and Belgium was vast, but his patienceand creativity in dealing with everything was wonderful The Hotel Manager Patrice Degron was also special. He did the little things to add the extra touch, like going out and buying at least twelve different varieties of cheese one day. The staff was also special. The difference between and AMA cruise and other cruises we took is the special things they add to make the cruise special: The Chef's table at the back of the ship for extra special dinner, the spa, the Wellness host and the varieties of tours were great. My wife enjoyed the biking tours9BIKES WERE ON BOARD) Read Less

This is our second AMA cruise and we cannot fault AMA. The service is great, the comfort and cleanliness is spot on, the food and the presentation first class. Every member of staff is professional, cheerful and helpful. We loved it. Our cabin was type AA. It had a small outside sitting area but inside had plenty of room. There was a large TV with a keyboard that doubled up as a computer. On the last day, we used it to check-in on line and our boarding cards were printed on the ship's printer. So easy! The trips were well organised and interesting with at least 3 choices each day. We especially enjoyed the waffle, beer and chocolate tasting trip in Belgium! The cruise manager was particularly entertaining when giving the presentation about the itinerary and very knowledgeable and could answer any questions put to him. On arrival at the airport, there was a designated meeting place but as soon as we passed through customs and immigration, we saw the AMA rep and were escorted to a coach and were transferred to the ship. Disembarking was also straight forward. Our transfer time to the airport was 11:45 am and although we had to vacate our cabin by 9am, after breakfast, we relaxed in the lounge where we could help ourselves to coffee, tea and snacks. When we arrived at the airport, there was an AMA rep to meet us and escort us to our check-in desk. That was extremely helpful as the airport was very big and very busy. We felt thoroughly spoilt and cannot praise AMA highly enough. Read Less

Although I have been on several ocean cruises, this was my first river cruise, and we were thrilled with every single aspect of the trip. When we told our travel agent we wanted to visit the Netherlands in tulip season, our travel agent suggested AmaWaterways, and it turned out to be the perfect choice. Because the river boats are much smaller than the ocean-going cruise ships -- 150 passengers and 49 crew members -- we felt well-cared for on every aspect of the trip. On our first night we were greeted with a glass of champagne and a long-stemmed red rose, and the individual attention continued throughout our journey. The spacious cabins offer plenty of closet space and an unusually large and comfortable bathroom. The large dining room is set up with booths and small tables that create a relaxing atmosphere for diners to enjoy truly excellent meals. Breakfast is buffet style, and lunch and dinner are served by very attentive waiters. At the dinner hour the sommelier provides a choice of wines chosen to complement the creatively planned and gorgeously-presented food. The off-shore excursions are included in the price of the cruise and they are all planned for several different levels of active participation. Passengers can choose between gentle, regular or more-active walking tours or biking expeditions at nearly every port. This makes for smaller groups on each excursion, which means you are not always straining to get a view of whatever you are supposed to see. And each participant is given a quiet-vox listening device connected to the guide's microphone making it easy to hear the the commentary. Because 2017/2018 was a harsher than usual winter, we were concerned that the tulips might not be blooming when we were there. We had no reason to worry, however. A few days before we embarked, we were blessed with warmer than usual temperatures and by the time we got to the Keukenhoff Gardens -- highlight of the trip -- the flowers were spectacular. This cruise was absolutely the best in every way -- food, service, accommodations, excursions, and on-board experience. I have already given a deposit on a future cruise with AmaWaterways, and look forward to another 5-star experience. Read Less
