Everything on the Ship was an upsell. The shore tours always ended up in a shopping precinct somewhere recommended by Celebrity. Information Events on the ship always ended with a option to buy something. They pushed the future cruises and littered main thoroughfares with overprices merchandise. Buy the premium drinks package but limited bars were open and very few staff to tend those bars. Main dining was ordinary so we mainly ate in the Buffett area. The main entertainment consisted of just singers and solo acts that failed to capture the imagination. As space around the pool is limited you had to resort to playing either Bingo or Trivia around other parts of the ship. Basically I was bored while on the ship and I could not wait to get off the ship to explore the new region we docked. If sitting around doing nothing is for you then go for it but I know I wont be cruising ever again. Read Less

We chose this cruise partly for the ports and also because we had been with celebrity before. The ship was spotless and the staff, particularly the cabin and restaurant staff extremely helpful. Our cabin was spacious and had plenty of storage. We had a window and I particularly enjoyed being able to lie on the comfortable bed and look out. Embarkation at Rome was efficient but disembarkation was a little haphazard. We had to ask numerous times where to pick up the shuttle bus to the entrance of the port. We spent a couple of nights in Rome as part of the trip along with about 60 other passengers. The hotel was satisfactory apart from not opening the restaurant on a Sunday night. Transfer to the ship very efficient. We did find the standard of food in the main restaurant had deteriorated. The choice had gone down and the meals were very similar each night. Sometimes the portions were extremely small. We did not try the speciality restaurants this time. The Oceanview cafe was consistently good with plenty of variety and although it was often very busy it was always possible to get a seat. We enjoyed the cafe al bacio and found the service there much better than previous cruises. It wasn't as busy either. The Lawn Club is ok but the bar is always slow and it is the place where everyone smokes so we tended to avoid it. If you look you can usually find a place to sit which suits you. The pool area gets very crowded and noisy with loud music etc but the solarium and other .decks are quieter. The entertainment was a bit like the curate's egg - good in parts. We enjoyed Jane Curry and the Macdonald brothers plus the violinist and juggler. The house dancers and acrobats were talented but the themes behind their shows were baffling. We did not use the shore excursions as we found them very expensive. And found information for people not on the excursions sketchy. We weren't told there was a shuttle bus in one port for example. Information on the tannoy was difficult to hear. It sounds as though I am complaining a lot but I am not! We enjoyed the cruise and met some very interesting people. The weather was beautiful. We found the Greek ports friendly and welcoming. The Turkish ones were spoiled by the constant hassle by traders but they are desperate as their tourist industry had declined. There is one other thing we do not like is the constant sales pitch that goes on on board, for drinks packages, spa treatments etc etc We are not quite sure whether we would go again with celebrity. Perhaps. Read Less

This is a review of our recent wedding onboard Celebrity Reflection. Note: Weddings are booked for and paid for separately to your cruise booking, to a specialist weddings company "The Wedding Experience" That all the cruise lines use. After we booked our cruise date and deciding to get married we were directed to the specialist wedding planning company that organises weddings for the cruise lines. Initially i was very apprehensive as I'm a bit of a control freak and wasn't sure what was going on to begin with, the initial paperwork can be a bit daunting especially as in our case we were both divorcees, and everything has to be sent to USA and then onto MALTA for approval, which has to be timed perfectly as there are restrictions on time periods from the paperwork being approved to the actual marriage ceremony..... but once all that was done and confirmed the rest was a lot less complicated. You have a long list of things to choose from that they offer regarding weddings both at sea and ashore or in port before departures, which are all priced individually and they also have special packages for the most popular items, which is what we chose as there was only going to be the two of us, we went with the Nautical Nuptials marriage at sea by the Captain option and the witnesses were provided onboard for us. I have to say I was not particularly impressed with the wedding company because I had to continually chase them up for answers to questions i had and they are not very good at getting back to you in a very speedy manner, which all added to the nerves and stress, as what I didn't realise is that a lot of it i.e. hair, makeup etc can't be confirmed until you are actually onboard, so make sure you have a good idea what you want with regards to hair and makeup, if you have pictures even better as this will help the hairdresser and makeup staff. Everything to do with the wedding organisation onboard is done by the designated wedding co-ordinator onboard the ship and ours (Zsofia Bak) was absolutely amazing! and totally put my mind and fraying nerves at ease from the moment I met her and with less than 24hrs till our marriage! Everything went perfectly and the attention to detail was brilliant, from organising hair and makeup even getting someone to get me into my gown, she even timed my appointments so that my hubby to be, was out of the cabin so that he didn't see me before the ceremony, I had little charms that I wanted on my bouquet and these where incorporated into it. We booked the photographer via the wedding company but they said they were unable to offer a Videographer, so we spoke to celebrity direct and they advised us to contact the company that does all their photos and videos while onboard directly, which we did and we had our wedding videoed too, which we paid direct to the company, and it was a wonderful addition as none of our family were there to share our day, so we now have something to show them. We had our own music and I wanted to enter ceremony/venue too (Blu Restaurant) and Zsofia the wedding co-ordinator had timed my entrance to perfection.. I have to say that Celebrity Reflection, Zsofia, its Captain and its Staff could not do enough for us and made our day the most memorable day it could have been and one we will treasure forever! Special thanks have to go to Zsofia Bak our Wedding Coordinator onboard ship who was one of our witness to our marriage, she really is a credit to the Celebrity Cruise Company, and also a big thanks to the many behind the scenes staff, florist, makeup artist, hairstylists, musicians, photographers, videographer, and not forgetting our fellow passengers that made our day so amazing. :o) Read Less

Not really the culinary experience I was lead to believe it would be, and we expected, having cruised with other cruise lines before. The service was certainly not 5 star, more like 3 star. Lovely clean ship. Friendly staff. Just more training required with a focus on service and the art of fine dining. At times it felt like a beach seller competition in the dining rooms, with each coffee/tea waiter, shouting across the room "more coffee, tea?". Lobster was overcooked and tough, and everyone I spoke to who also had the lobster, agreed. Dining rooms could do with a little more imagination, regarding table layout and waiter traffic. No "themed evenings". It may have been a good idea, given the itinerary, Italy, Greece and Turkey, to theme the evening with culinary dishes to compliment the area. Pasta = Italy, Dolmades/Musaka =Greece etc. Entertainment was pretty average. No real dance floor area, just the atrium which was not ideal. Outside of fixed dining, the entertainment was non existent Read Less

We always wanted to visit a lot of the islands, countries we went to so the eastern cruise was ideal, but most stops were to short and land excursions were to rushed and very expensive we thought. The ship entertainment, food, and crew was as to be expected fantastic. But if I could change a few things that would be to get celebrity to stop charging for so many things on top of the already expensive cruise, things like wifi (free in all holiday hotels we go to) fitness classes yoga etc + various other things they feel the need to charge extra for, what's next paying for sun beds ? (They also need to clamp down on sun bed reservation ) we even had one couple had 2beds in the sun and as we found out at lunch time 2 in the shade next to us that they had left empty all morning, they got a piece of mind for that but they didnt care a bit, so after they went dinner I removed all their towels from all 4 beds so when they come back some one else had their beds LOL. I will not go on and on. Service in main dining room was to celebrities high standard as was the cabin attendent. Service on the rest of the ship was iffy. If the captain and his officers worked on service rather than trying to sell you something all the time ( including the captains daily briefing). Classic drinks package when we have previously sailed on celebrity a full list of the drinks has been available not on the reflection. But they would sell you the upgrade to the premium package, on investigation and a lot of questions to the bar staff we found we didn't require, most branded spirits which according to the leaflet were over $8 were included on the classic package eg drambue, baileys, absolute vodka and Bombay sapphire gin. We have cruised on over 30 occasions and the production shows were not the best in fact MAXX was by far the worst show we had endured on a cruise boat. Getting home we travelled with my 85 year old father at Rome airport we were not happy to be told that my father had a seat on the plane but myself and my wife were on standby. We then endured a two hour wait before we were told we were also on the flight ( Alitalia booked through celebrity). I have only written this review as we were prompted to do so by celebrity although we have sent a complaint in. Also we were requested to take part in a further survey which when I answered one of the first questions which allowed me to decline our annual income shut its self.p Read Less

Absolutely perfect cruise in every way, always cruised with other cruise companies but this is by far the best ever that we have done, food accommodation everything was perfect what a lovely beautiful ship. We had a mixed nationality on our cruise as it was a fly cruise and the best we have done so far. Our cabin was always spotless and replenished. The staff were spot on everywhere very welcoming and inviting, the restaurant check in guy was so pleasant and always gave people there preferred table options, we don't usually go to shows etc. we cruise for the relaxation mainly and this was the most relaxing we have ever had, we are now looking to book another celebrity solstice class cruise in September or October and we wont hesitate to recommend this particular ship to anyone. We met some nice people on board and everyone had a great time, the places we visited were fantastic and good shore times . Read Less

A great mix of relaxing and activities. We have cruised a couple of times in the last three years, but I think this one made for the best holiday. It was a lovely mix of relaxed days and then a few which were relatively busy, as opposed to every port meaning a full day off the ship. We flew to Rome where we stayed in the ESH Hotel which was on the outskirts of Rome. We had one full day in Rome which was easy to get to on the Metro, 1.5€ each way or there was a bus stop right outside the hotel. Both nights we dined in a local restaurant called Restaurante Gustotando which did lovely pastas and pizza. It was always buzzing with locals, so that tells you a lot. Transfer to the ship was included and took about an hour to get to the port. Embarkation was the easiest so far, we had checked in online, so dropped the cases and walked on. Our room was ready so we went straight there. We were on deck 9 port side, which for this trip I would recommend starboard ( the views in port were better) Having previously cruised with Carnival and Royal Caribbean, I thought the cabin on the Celebrity was slightly better. The bathroom was certainly more spacious with lots of storage. I would have liked more drawer space in the cabin, but you have the overhead cupboard which has to serve instead of drawers. The toiletries provided by Celebrity like shampoo, conditioner, soap, body wash and body lotion were all good quality and next time I will leave those out of my packing. Nice touches like more sockets, a night light in the bathroom all made for a better standard of stateroom I felt. We thoroughly enjoyed the quality of food on offer in the buffet. The eggs hollondaise were among the best I have ever eaten. Our dining time was at six for the dining room, which was a bit early for us, so we ate in the buffet most nights. The evening shows were on the whole enjoyable especially the McDonald Brothers from Scotland ( not that I'm biased in any way!!) I heard quite a number of people criticising the staff shows and a lot of people walked out, but we quite enjoyed them. The majority of the staff especially those from the Far East were excellent, most courteous and eager to assist in any way. My only complaint is the temperature of the ship especially in the evening. I would put on a sleeveless dress for dinner then need a cardigan to ward off the chill of the aircon. Sometimes I would have to pop out on deck to warm up a bit. Why is the air conditioning kept so low? Here speaks a woman who hails from the north of Scotland! Our first port of call was Santorini. This was the port I was most keen to visit and strangely the one I enjoyed least. The island rises on steep cliffs out of the sea looking rather like a wedding cake. You have to be tendered ashore and it was pretty choppy the day we arrived. Three other cruise ships were in port at the same time which meant the harbour area was really busy. We had a half hour queue for the cable car which costs 5€ each. It was easy enough to escape the crowds once you reached the top and we had a pleasant walk along the top of the caldera. There were not as many blue roofs as I had been expecting, we had to search for them! We decided to walk down rather than queue again and we are used to steep hills in Scotland, but I did not enjoy the walk down one bit. The path was not only steep but very slippy, the stones worn smooth over time. The poor donkeys left their rather pungent aroma. I felt so sorry for them. They did not seem to have shade or water. There were many who were untethered and I was rather wary of being kicked as I dodged between them. I hope they are better cared for than was obvious to us. Athens ( Piraeus) was an overnight stop. We walked from terminal B to the bus stop, there was a kiosk outside the ship area where you could buy your bus ticket. 1.5€ which lasted 90 mins. This covered the metro too. Bus843 took us close to the metro which in turn takes you straight to Ancient Athens. We bought a 20€ ticket to the Acropolis. Which was enough for us really. Over 65 you get in for 10€. It was an amazing place to visit although it did not have the same kind of feeling that other ancient sites we have visited have had. I wonder if this is because there is so much reconstruction that has taken place over the years. Day 2 we decided just to wander round the port of Pireaus and take advantage of the free wifi. The next port of call was Mykonos. When we disembarked after breakfast, it was straight onto the jetty. Complimentary buses were waiting to shuttle us into the town of Mykonos, it's only about half a mile but nice to be bussed. Mykonos town was really sweet, very pretty streets the floor and walls seemlessly plastered, which made walking very easy. Geraniums and Bougainville proliferate. We spent a couple of hours wandering around then back to the ship to relax. The port of Kusadasi was so much prettier than I expected. Hilly and trees everywhere. Contrary to some of the information out there, you definitely do not need a visa if you are staying for less than 72 hours. We thought there would be forms to fill in and customs to clear but it was straight off the boat, straight onto the harbour, no customs, no nothing. We had pre booked a tour with Ephesus Shuttle, Luckily Serkan from Ephasus shuttle was there very early. We waited until half past when the other couple arrived. We were lucky it was just the four of us, it cost 40€ each . Serkan was really nice and guided us round the ruins of Ephesus. They were amazing!!Really worth visiting especially the terraced houses. It was good to go early as it really began heating up. I used my umbrella a lot to shade us from the sun. On our return to Kusadasi he gave us some helpful hints about shopping etc. We went back to the boat for lunch, then in the afternoon we walked along the promenade to a local beach which was shallow and sandy to SWIM IN THE SEA!! Lots of people came back laden with bags. You could bargain about 20% off the advertised price of the 'Genuine Fakes'! Bodrum, the next port was also very pretty and easy to wander around, good shopping, if you like to bargain. The last Greek port was in Chania Crete. It was the least auspicious port so far. The town lay at the other side of a narrow peninsula. The local buses ferried us the 6 K to the town. It was 3.70€ each for the round trip. Chania has the muted terracotta, cream colours of Venice, so relaxing to the eye. A semi circular port with low rise restaurants and shops. The bus dropped us off outside a covered market that sold olives, spices, leather goods etc. I preferred the shopping here to Turkey as the price advertised was the price you bought at. We had a beer at the port before catching the bus back in the afternoon. It was a shorter day as you had to be back at the boat by half three. The last port was Naples. I had planned to visit Herculaneum, but hadn't really done my research. We took the metro then wandered around a very dubious part of the town searching for the ancient site ( we should have caught a bus) In the end we gave up and wandered back to the ship, more research required for the next time! Back to Piraeus and another easy disembarkation. Thank you Celebrity! We have now booked our next cruise for October! Read Less

We close this cruise original for the itinerary which included an overnight in Istanbul, unfortunately this was changed due to work at the port for Istanbul to an overnight in Athens. We considered cancelling but decided in the end to go ahead and are very pleased we did. We had an Aqua Class cabin with premium drinks and wifi packages, both of which were excellent. Best wifi we have ever had on a ship, the the premium drinks package suits our taste for drinking wine much better than the classic package which we have previously found too restrictive. The Blu restaurant is excellent, we enjoyed it so much we dined there every night. Definitely the best ship we have been on for facilities, cleanliness and crew. Only two small criticisms - the theatre show cast were poor, their shows not at all to our taste, and the quality of singers and dancers not up to the standard we would expect. Having said that the Refection orchestra, house band and all other musicians performing around the ship were excellent, as were the guest entertainers in the show theatre. If you are ever on a cruise with Jayne Curry as a guest performer do not miss it! She was the highlight of the entertainment for us. The second issue is that we only found out once onboard that there were no formal nights during this 11 night cruise - they had been replaced with 'chic' nights. We did not mind missing the 'formal' format, but were frustrated that we had packed formal wear which was not needed. We have written to Celebrity to ask if this is a permanent arrangement in the future but have yet to receive a response. These were minor frustrations which did not diminish at at our enjoyment of an excellent cruise. Celebrity have certainly gone to the top of our favourite cruise line list - our experience aboard the Refection will be a hard to match let alone beat! Read Less

This review is with respect to an 11 night Greece, Turkey & Italy cruise on Celebrity Reflection. Date 6th June 2016 The ports of call were - board ship at Civitavecchia , then Santorini, Athens, Mykonos, Ephesus, Bodrum, Chania, Naples and then back to Civitavecchia. First comment surprised to fly with EasyJet is this the normal standard for Celebrity? Comments on Celebrity Reflection Good. General quality of the ship and the quality of food in main restaurant were very good. The Concierge (Llaria) was excellent and tried very hard to give help and advice. (Well done Llarie). Speciality acts in main theatre were excellent; the entertainment around the ship was also good. Not so Good. The theatre presentations by the resident group where too complicated for the general audience hence the attendance at their presentations was poor. The bar service in the theatre was very poor (Non-existent in reality). (Perhaps a strategy for ensuring guests on inclusive drink packages was kept in control!) There was heavy sell by the excursions and entertainment managers on using Celebrity excursions which are hugely overpriced. They tried to apply fear into the consequences of not using Celebrity’s excursions and comments on alternative means of transport was absent – very poor!! (In reality where available they were fine, particularly in Athens). The cost of using speciality restaurants remains a joke! Ports of Call. Santorini – I don’t know what all the fuss is about. Very busy, long queues (in the sun) for the cable car only alternatives a donkey ride or a walk down the donkey track which we did and was disgusting. Score - 6 out of 10 Athens – Very good – suggest use hop on hop off bus or a taxi. (If you choose taxi get one outside the harbour gates). Score 8 out of 10 (Note 2 days is adequate). Also for personal reasons I wanted to go to the British War Cemetery in Athens, if you have a similar need get a taxi don’t mess about! Mykonos – Took a trip. OK, nice place. Score - 7 out of 10 Ephesus - Excellent – the ancient ruins are excellent a Celebrity organised trip may be the best bet here, you do need a guide to best appreciate the ruins. Word of warning do not get roped into anything to do with carpet demonstrations!! Score - 9 out of 10 Bodrum - Walked the town. Good for a day, good shopping for genuine fakes and reproductions – beware of buying sport type shoes – quality ??? Score – 8 out of 10 Chania – Walked the town. Similar to Bodrum Score – 8 out of 10 Naples – Big port, lots of organised trips which you may need. You need to research this one. Overall score for the holiday 8 out of 10 Last comment if you choose this holiday try and get a deal that includes a drinks package do not need to be a heavy drinker to get value. Read Less
