The wife and I did the “Grand Hamburg and Scandinavia” cruise, M839B, cabin P1, start and end in NYC, 23 nights, double crossing with stops in Southhampton (twice), Hamburg (twice), Elsinore Denmark, and Oslo Norway. The opinions below are based solely on our experience during our voyage. As a point of reference, we are late 50s/early 60s, and are able-bodied, with no special needs. We have ...

Expensive disappointment

I had been on QM2 before in 2004 for her maiden Caribbean trip, 18 years ago and remember the experience as exciting (especially sail-away with a band playing us away on the quayside and free bubbly!), delightful and sophisticated. Maybe it's because I am older now and have become more demanding as regards to the finer things of a civilised existence that I found the recent crossing to New York ...

Just returned from a transatlantic crossing (Southampton to New York) aboard the QM2 with the family. It was my first cruise and exceeded my expectations, just wonderful from top to bottom. I thought food and service in the main Britannia restaurant was top notch, wasn't so impressed by the canteen/buffet, but only used it at lunchtime. Didn't see the the point of spending more at the speciality ...

Transatlantic Voyage in this Proper Ocean Liner is Memorable and Worthy

An experience on the last operating "ocean liner" (versus cruise ships) was high on my must do list. The Queen Mary 2 (QM2) did not disappoint providing a much smoother sailing experience compared to luxury cruise ships operated by higher end companies. Most important to me was the fact that I never felt my bed shaking inside my midship cabin as I have on many occasions on "luxury cruise ships". ...

Disappointed on so many levels

Demograph - Both my partner and I are in our mid 50's and consider ourselves fit and independent people - we enjoy life and socialising but are definitely not "in your face" people. We are happy and comfortable to mix with people of all ages but I have to say that our cruise from NY to Southampton felt like we were in a floating retirement home for a bigoted older generation that still believe ...

Much to like yet QM2 falls short of expectations

Crossing the Atlantic on a grand ship has long been a dream of one of my frequent travel companions and using the QM2 as a way to get home from a trip to England (and thus skipping a much dreaded flight) was appealing to another. That the ship promised a luxurious passage certainly didn't lessen our excitement. We got on in Southampton ready to be transported in every way. Embarkation was ...

We had thought about a back to back cruise and this was available, 14 days of luxury with a day shopping in New York. Arrived at 12noon at the port. CPS let us unload our suitcases (5) and hand baggage, then removed the car. Portering took the luggage and we found it outside our stateroom. Great service by all the portering staff. Delay of 1 hour in embarking, efficient processing of ...

Accommodations are very nice. Rooms are well appointed with nice decor. Very comfortable beds and pillows. Our room steward Fernando was very good. The Commodore Club was our favorite bar with lovely furnishings and a great views. Also very nice were the Carinthia Lounge and the Chart Room. The three balls during our transatlantic were fantastic. The themes, the dancing and the music were ...

Fab time as a single cruiser.

I wanted to be in NY-Baltimore to meet with friends and managed to get a single cabin (might have been a cancellation as none available when I first looked) on just the right date. I celebrated my 70th birthday in 2017--and this trip was a belated birthday present to myself. This voyage was on my bucket list and was also my first time on a liner. I enjoyed everything about it (except for ...
