Wonderful Last minute Anniversary Cruise. We decided fairly last minute (for us) to take a cruise for our anniversary, right at 60 days. I started looking and Carnival had an inexpensive cruise on the Vista out of Miami going to Grand Turk. We had never been on Carnival nor had we been to Grand Turk. We had heard that the scuba in Grand Turk was amazing. We had also heard Carnival called the lower end of cruising, but we figured a 4 day cruise was very little investment. Embarkation – We were literally number 10 in line and the first to our waiting area. We had faster to the fun, so were called to Board the ship after Priority. When the call came for Priority a couple hundred people who arrived after us rushed to get on, chaos. We just hung out and embarked behind all of them. Embarkation started about 12. We were on board by 12:15pm. Was faster to the fun worth it? Meh, not really. We were able to get to our cabins early because of FFTF, but I always prepare for not being able to, so this was nice, but not needed. Food: We had great experiences in the MDR. We had anytime dining and typically ate early before the crowds. Only one night was service so so. Food was good. The last night we chose to eat at Bonsai sushi. Big mistake. We did never get any refills on our water. It took over an hour to get a California roll. We never got part of our order. The people on both sides never got their orders taken. People who were clearly wasted kept coming in from the bar next door and demanding food. Straight up walking to the sushi bar and demanding rolls. We should have stuck to the MDR, but the placement of the tables such that you are literally sitting with another couple was odd and we wanted to try specialty. Carnival Melting Cake- oh my I will see you again! The buffet seating was plentiful, but it was strangely arranged. I had a hard time finding the actual food, though what I found was good. Found the desserts quite frequently though. Another kudo to Carnival – their desserts were awesome! Blue Iguana was good, but come on fish tacos are not made with chunks of fried fish. The hubby enjoyed Guys burgers and thought the fries were amazing. Guys smokehouse – the meats were good, but what they served was not potato salad, just saying! The Breakfast brunch was good! Also enjoyed the pasta and noodle bar for lunch! The pizzeria was pretty darn good too and it was fresh. Tea – Loved it. It was hard to find it on the daily program though. Tips about ship: Try the mini breakfasts around the ship instead of the buffet. Also try the noodle and pasta bar for lunch. Check out all the areas outside of the main pool area. There are so many outdoor areas to enjoy! Try the sea day brunch! Shows- fun, but the talent seemed lacking. I did not mind the odd seating in the theater, but we typically got there early enough to get one of the tables. Watched a dancer get dropped in the one show. The gal got up and continued on though. LOVED the violins! Did not get enough of them. We thoroughly enjoyed the comedians. I understand PG and family friendly shows, but the kids didn’t get the jokes, so they still were lost. Ports of call: Grand Turk – Like I said we had heard great things about scuba in Turks, but I am not certified so we did the power snorkel. The snorkeling was really amazing, but I was not a fan of the “power snorkel” machines. They got in the way of my view. The island was really nothing except port, debris and trash filled neighborhoods and beautiful beaches. Disembarkation – nightmare. They skipped over our deck for some reason and then when they called us the lines were chaos. If you took an elevator it spit you out at the front of the line. If you saved the elevator for people who actually needed it you were screwed. We fed into four different versions of the line. People were fighting. It was VERY heated. Two hours in line to get off the ship. Luckily for us our flight left at 2pm. Had it left earlier we would not have made it. I really loved Vista. Is it showing a lot of wear for a two year old ship? Yes, but it is still a great ship. We ventured out to the main pool area once and it was way too chaotic. The Staff were all extremely nice. We did not have a beverage package and yet the bartenders all learned our names. We had a Havana cabin. WAY TO GO CARNIVAL! An area of the ship without children under 12 was awesome for us as we were celebrating our anniversary without our kids, who even if they had been with us are adults, but it was nice not to hear others’ children screaming or running down the halls. I know this is not a popular decision, but I will cruise again with Carnival for Havana. We loved the area! The ship had so many areas that were designed with ocean views beyond the pool area that we did not miss our normal balcony. We met so many nice people on Vista, that it really did make it fun cruise for us. I have to hand it to Carnival their website is so easy to navigate and user friendly. From the time we booked until the time we came back we received emails from Carnival that walked us through each step. I was impressed before we even got on the ship with Carnival’s fun ship theme to everything. We really felt like Carnival offered a good value for our money. The Family harbor area and the Havana areas are genius. We talked to many families who used the family harbor lounge for snacks and gatherings for their family. We also talked to many adults in the Havana area who were travelling in that area because it was specifically devoid of kids. Carnival does not nickel and dime any more than the other lines we have been on. Read Less

Overall, I could not have asked for a better cruise! We chose the Vista because we wanted a newer ship with lots of on board activities. It wasn't perfect, but really was wonderful. We arrived in Miami the day prior to the cruise and stuck pretty close to the hotel. Our adult daughter and her fiance joined us on this cruise, but their cabin was on a different floor. We had a balcony cabin on the 9th deck. This was our first time booking a balcony and we LOVED it. We spent countless hours watching the ocean. The cabin itself was comfortable and felt more spacious than others we have had. I do advise to chose your cabin carefully. We loved everything about ours except it was right under the Lido Marketplace. We heard feet stomping, chairs sliding, and just general noise 24 hours a day. Thankfully, we stayed very busy during the day and fell asleep quickly at night. We chose the anytime dining and I have slightly mixed feelings about that. It was super convenient and we never had to wait long for our table. However, I did miss getting to know the wait staff. We had someone different every night and I think the quality of service as a little less due to that. The food was great! We also visited the steak house one night and it was excellent! Our cruise director was Chris the Flying Scotsman. He was outstanding! Every event we attended was high energy and lots of fun! My favorite was the 80's Rock and Glow party. We enjoyed all of the ports of call. A few tips: St. Maarten--island is still heavily damaged from Hurricane Irma in Sept of 2017. Especially the French side. We took the "10 Best Tour", but we referred to it as the Tour of Tragedy. I wish we had just taken the water taxi over into town and spent the day near the water. St. Kitts--We took the rainforest cruise excursion. If you love nature, this is a MUST! San Juan. We spent the day exploring Old San Juan by foot. I highly recommend visiting the Capitol Building. Next time, we will visit the rainforest here as well. Grand Turk---Crowded and hot. We wish we had book an excursion to go snorkeling away from the main crowds. We rented snorkels on the beach right by the pier. IT was enjoyable, but we didn't see much. The ship itself was fabulous. We went to the Thrill Theater, Imax, saw a couple of shows, spend some time in the casino, attended a few events, and spent time relaxing. We never went to the water park, pools, or road the sky ride. The staff went over and beyond to make sure we had everything we needed. Read Less

PROS: Cruise was Very Nice. Good ports and Great Port times. Had a lot of fun. Food was also really good and we had open seating which was also great. We loved the Ship as it was new. Staff was nice, and right away we found a good server and booked with him every night. Its a good recommendation to anyone who likes consistency as the waiter will serve you right every night / breakfast as he / she will know your style / taste. We also liked the tea time at sea days. Ship has plenty of space for you to be in OR out of noise. CONS: the Ocean View Bikes were broken for the entire cruise which was a bummer and unexpected as its a new ship. Also, one of the embarkation doors was broken which made the initial check in 3 hours long. If you booked this cruise, you'll have a great time, just be careful on the room you choose. Read Less

As a family went on the conquest two years ago had a great time within a week of returning we booked on the vista read the reviews about the vista and looked forward to going the ship itself is awesome it is a beautiful ship didn't get lost to much the food was excellent the waiters were fantastic Lionel,Poopoo and tommy were great the other food options were great the twenty four hour pizza was a big hit guy fieres burger place was great if you misses out on food it was your own fault the entertainment was awesome there was a lot going on and you had to plan some to get to it all but there was enough notifications to plan it the vista atrium was really cool maybe not as big as some of the other ships, but very cozy the bar staff there were als,o great know your name and beverage choice by the second hour the crew made this cruise very enjoyable always smiling always a good morning or afternoon very pleasant people. The ports of call were very nice even though they are still recovering from the hurricanes. On the tours we took the guide told it like it is the good with the bad it was very well done. The cruise director on this ship is named Matt the guy was awesome, not only full of info but funny as heck. The staterooms were well kept and the room steward was great. The only problem was the skyway was being worked on, the, walkway was working even though I had no desire to go on it. To sum it all up we had a fantastic time and look forward to our next cruise Read Less

Went with my mom and two boys - ages 10 and 13. Did Harmony last year and wanted to go on Vista to compare them. Vista did not disappoint, despite so many negative reviews. We had a GREAT time. I don't understand how some can be so easily annoyed and let their vacations be ruined. Not us! Sure not everything is perfect, but it was all good enough for us to have a great time. Embarkation was a little annoying. You have to wait outside for a long time before getting it. That's because security and check in is right when you enter. Would be nice if they could at least move check in upstairs to that the line can move quicker. Loved all the activities they have - sky ride, ropes course, pool tables, water slides, etc. My boys were never bored. Loved the movies at night at the Lido Deck. All fairly new movies. Didn't have a chance to try the IMAX or thrill theater. Ship never felt crowded despite it being Spring Break and I'm sure it was at capacity. Long lines sometimes for food (not in the MDR) but it went pretty fast. Loved Guy's burgers! Buffet was so-so, not so many options. But with the other free venues, we didn't have to go there. MDR was good, some items were awesome, some not so much. But that's the same for all cruise lines. Blue Iguana was good too, especially for breakfast. Didn't have pizza, but my mom loved it. Italian & Asian restaurants for lunch were really good. Didn't get to try Seafood Shack even though I really wanted to. There are so many food options that I never made it there. Did MDR each night for dinner with my time dining. Never had a problem getting a table, never had to wait. Kind of silly going to deck 5 to get your table reservations and then going down to the restaurant, but it really wasn't that big of a deal. Service was always fairly quickly. Only one night was a little bit slow. Comedy club was awesome. Did all the PG shows with the kids and enjoyed them. Didn't do any shows. Tried one and it wasn't that great. We didn't last 10 minutes. Cruise director, Matt, was hysterical. Best cruise director EVER. Loved all four ports that we visited - Grand Turk, Puerto Rico, St. Kitts & St. Maarten. Grand Turk - Hung out at the beach right off the boat. Just walked a down the beach a bit to get away from the crowds. Puerto Rico - Took a taxi to El Morro and then walked our way back, hitting different spots on the way back. St. Kitts - Did Moko Jumbie snorkel & beach tour. Awesome! The spot that they took us snorkeling was amazing, even saw an octopus. St. Maarten - Major hurricane destruction is all over the island. Very sad. Went to Maho Beach and had a great time. Debarkation was smooth. We took our luggage with us and were able to walk right off. Would definitely cruise on the Vista again. Read Less

We had never seriously considered a cruise, it just always seemed so out of reach. But then some friends of ours had one booked and we looked into it and decided to give it a try. Oh My Gosh! We came home and immediately booked one for 2019 (43 days left!) and another for 2020! We are so hooked!! It was the most wonderful time!! There was so much to see and do. Embarkation was smooth, we had FTTF and got right on the ship and our room was already ready. Luggage was there right on time. Agus was a wonderful Steward and always remembered our names. The MDR had great food, and wonderful entertainment. Michael was our head waiter and he was great! The Havana area was nice for the hot tub, but we really didn't spend much time there, there was always so much going on! I think a regular cabin for less is just fine since we dont mind children and don't really utilize the pools much. In March 2019 we are taking our teen boys on a smaller ship and we will see if we like it as much! Can't wait to go!! Read Less

The Vista is a beutiful ship and has the best Cruise Director in the fleet. Matt Mitchum may also be the most handsome. There were plenty of places to eat and and the IMAX was a wonderful experience. We saw a movie that had just come out and my son and I thouroghly enjoyed ourselves. They even celebrated the military personel; past and present; with a detication to each branch. My son is in the Navy and I was extremely greatful that Carnval put as much effort into saying thank you for thier service. I will do it again but right now, I am now looking forward to the Horizon. The fun cruise line does not let you down. Getting on and off was a breeze. I also loved that the menu had some changes. There is so much to do and I am pretty sure that did not do every thing. #platinummember Read Less

We absolutely loved our cruise on the Vista, the staff were friendly and courteous, the food was fantastic and the amenities on board are second to none! We were in a 7th Floor Balcony and it was great, our steward was very polite and she asked frequently if everything was ok and if we needed anything to just let her know. Our Waiter and Host at dinner was very efficient and we never had any problems with our service. The food was delicious and they had a very wide variety of options both in the dining room and throughout the ship, Guy's burgers are great and the 24hr Pizza came in handy after the late night at the casino! There was never a dull moment and entertainment on the ship was awesome, they had some very talented musicians playing several times a day in the Atrium. We spent a fair amount of time in the casino and the staff there was always friendly and helpful when learning new games. The waterslides were fun and it was nice to play mini golf with the ocean views all around. Great trip and would recommend this ship to anyone! Cheers! Read Less

We chose this cruise because we like to sail with carnival. it was a really fun cruise. this was our 10th cruise also was our 2nd best cruise. there was a lot of things todo for kids and adults. for the kids there was skyride, ropes course, golf, basketball, kids clubs, trivia, waterpark and etc. if you are an adult you can do those stuff to well except for kids club but they do have a casino. if you want to stay away from kids carnival has it 21 and over adult only serenity it was a nice place to relax. the entertainment on the vista was also really good. the best show had to be the lip sync battle. The food was great. we tried some of the up charge restaurants like jiji asian kitchen, cucina del capitano and the steakhouse. the food was so good and very cheap. the main dining room was also really good and so was the buffet food. I just had to say you had to wait for pizza at the pizza place. cabin was clean and had enough room to store stuff. we had cabin # 11255 best location for a cabin. Carnival has made there check in process much faster too. I do recommend this ship for first time cruisers and exciting cruisers. thats all for now Read Less

We were excited to try the Vista, but at the same time were a little worried about sailing over Easter Break. Overall we really enjoyed the ship. One of the nice things is the layout of the ship and number of choices you have for fun, food, & relaxation; which all contributed to the ship never feeling crowded. Embarkation and debarkation was a breeze. I thought the crew were very friendly and professional. Our Head Server in the MDR, SANJA, was outstanding, but her assistants were not. Found the food in the MDR to be pretty lousy, but there are so many other choices, we didn't really care. i think in the future we will probably only go to the MDR a couple of times, until they put the time into a better menu with better quality choices. There were a ton of things to do and we thought the entire cruise was great. Obviously we didn't care for the MDR food, but that's such a small aspect of the entire cruise. The SPA, Fitness facility, pools, water slide, etc. were all clean & fun! We actually booked the Vista again for next year. Read Less

Had a great time on the Vista, so much to do on board! Food was excellent, Cruise director "MIKE" was great! The staff treated us very well, our cabin stew Marco took great care of us! The only problem was unsupervised unruly teenagers! They roamed the halls late at night at will, banging on doors yelling, even fighting, by the time security arrived, they were gone. Maybe Carnival should consider a curfew for teens, and for those of you will say "they are on vacation also" well....their vacation is not to cause mayhem and act like idiots! Bad parenting and lack of supervision by the same parents is the big cause, but even late at night they should not be roaming the halls, I am talking midnight hours ! We were on deck 9, and the people in cabins around us also complained. My wife and I have already raised our kids, when they were teens we did take them on vacation, and they had great times, but were respectful of others and they were not allowed to run wild late at night. Not saying all the kids on the cruise were bad, they were not but there were groups and you could see them gathering at night and knew that they were up to no good, even heard them bragging about what they did and were going to do. There was a fight at the elevators on deck 9 at midnight one night. Security needs to police the cabin decks at night and a curfew needs to be in place. I am all for a good time but there are limits! 2/25/17 – 3/5/17 Cruisers: 40ish parental units and the 13-year-old unit 8A Stateroom: 6242 Embarkation We traveled into Orlando on February 24 in order to attend a Disney DVC Moonlight Magic Event that evening (great by the way if you are a DVC member and able to attend one of these!). The drive down to Miami on February 25 was uneventful and had plenty of nice rest stops along the way. Drop off of National Car rental at MIA included a complimentary shuttle to the port which was nice. Arrival at 1:30 PM to port had an empty check-in line for the cruise and we were able to proceed immediately to our stateroom. One of our pieces of luggage did not appear even after dinner and my husband did have to go to guest services to retrieve. This was due to the port baggage handlers breaking the top handle on the luggage and the Carnival stateroom tag falling off the luggage. Vista Amenities Pools – Forget getting a lounger. People are out there clipping on towels at 6AM. (Where exactly do you get towel clips? WINGS??) Do you really need a lounger? No. There are plenty of spaces around the pool to sit with your feet in the water so think outside the box and embrace the modified environment. Hot Tubs - The ship could use a few more hot tubs. The few that it has are always overcrowded and lukewarm. There were a couple of hot tubs up top in the adults only area that were not too crowded. However, this option does not work well if someone in you party is under 18 years of age as they are not allowed in this area so we did not get to utilize this much. Sky Ride – I thought our family would be waiting in line for hours to enjoy based on other reviews. Not true for us! We went at times where we thought logically that there may be a low crowd and enjoyed the benefit of small lines. We literally rode every day except sea days. The highlight was the ride around in Grand Turk. It was absolutely beautiful to look down at the clear water with no other ships in port. Sky Ropes Course – My son did this multiple times a day and LOVED it! I went around once & was lucky to survive! IMAX Theater – We saw La La Land in the theater. Great theater and experience. Note that if you are on Deck 6 and want a drink, you can get them at the IMAX bar even if you are not going to the movie. Dive-In Movies – Went to several movies after dinner and they were fun! Liquid Lounge Shows – This is not our thing so we did not experience. Did walk in to check out what was going on several times and could never really see anything so can understand the complaints about the set-up. Our stateroom was above the LL so can attest that someone was having fun down there as I heard the bass until the wee hours some nights. Casual Dining – Breakfast & Lunch Blue Iguana Cantina– Oh, how I miss you for breakfast with your huevos rancheros & your toppings bar. Pizzeria Del Capitano – It is busy but good pizza. Pig & Anchor – Good BBQ. Fantastic potato salad. Hard to find as it is outside of the Pixels on Deck 5. Guy’s Burger – I think my boys had a burger every day for lunch. Must have been tasty. Circle C – As written by a 13-year-old boy Circle C was pretty fun, there was very little planning and almost everything done was chosen by the kids. Dinners Day 1 – JiJi’s Asian Kitchen I think all of us agreed that this was the highlight of our meals. Not too many customers in the restaurant and we had good ordering advice from the servers and restaurant manager. My picky teen said this was his favorite meal of the cruise. Cannot go wrong with any of the choices here! Day 2 – Seafood Shack & Pizza Got the fried platter and pizza for dinner and watched the Dive-In Movie. Seafood platter was blah. Pizza was good. Day 3 – Bonsai Sushi Good grief this was a mess. We ordered the sushi boat for two, a few skewers & beef teriyaki. The sushi boat came out relatively quickly and the skewers and beef teriyaki took FOREVER to arrive. So much so that the server comp’d them for us. Enjoyed the outdoor seating for dinner at this venue. Day 4 – Pizza & a Movie Got pizza for all and watched Deepwater Horizon at the Dive-In Movie. Great dining plan for an evening with kids or teens. Day 5, 6, 7 – Main Dining Room Surprise! We liked the main dining room. Had the dedicated early dining in Horizons dining room at table 619. Liked this location as it was quiet, on level 2 of the dining room and off to the side behind a glass wall. Did I miss the tablecloths on every night? No. They were there on formal night and it almost seemed silly. Food was excellent! Service was great! Day 8 – Fahrenheit 555 This was the biggest disappointment of the cruise as far as dining. My son and husband were looking forward to this meal and it was a bust. The team serving our table was unfriendly and the service was rushed. Food was mediocre and we all agreed that we would not make a point to go to the Carnival signature steakhouse again. Drinks We did the Cheers! Package. There were some times where you would wait for a beverage but if you were aggressive, the bartenders would take your order. Ports Grand Turk – We rented a golf cart from Karib Auto Rental (~$100USD for rental). We found the Karib rep Boogie (or is it Boogey?) outside the gate of the cruise ship terminal. Boogie was a hoot! Our cart was fun to drive around the island. Challenge to the next golf cart renting cruisers in Grand Turk is for you to find Conch World in your golf cart! Good luck! San Juan – Have always wanted to stay on the ship while everyone gets off and have run of the ship. That’s what we did as we have been to Puerto Rico before. It was super fun to do this on a ship with such fun things to do! St. Kitts – We laid up and got off late just to check email and get a drink at a local café. (We had been here twice before.) St. Maarten – My husband’s father & partner spend a few months in St Maarten each year and we were able to connect with them when we arrived in port. Started out at the Yacht Club to see the boats going out via the Simpson Bay Bridge for the Heineken Regatta. After, we visited at the in-laws condo and went to Dreams beach club on the French side for lunch (yum & nice beach). Ended the day at Sunset Beach bar to see the Air France arrival and a Boeing 737 departure. Took a taxi back from the airport beach at around $9pp. Disembarkation We had a 10:30 AM flight out of FLL. We did self-disembarkation and were off the ship and in a taxi by 7:30 and through security at FLL by 8:30. Read Less

20th Carnival cruise, mostly all good, but cabin location under galley was not best for light-sleeper. Should not need medication to help sleep, but that is what I had to do- kids slept fine and husband managed without sleeping pills, although he commented nightly on the noise from above. We flew into and stayed in FLL and took SAS to the port the next day, Ordered Chinese delivery which was very good. Holiday Inn Dania pre-stay one night was fine, beds comfy and quiet by airport with free airport shuttle. SAS called pre-arrival and drive was fine to port. Embarkation was smooth, Sail and Sign key cards were picked up outside cabin door. Family Harbor Cove Balcony Suite 2425 was gorgeous with long balcony and only 1/2 obstructed view (no lifeboat over second half), but noisy as mentioned every night. 2nd bathroom with tub and sink was useful. Closet design not our favorite at first, but we learned to take turns to access the back wall hanging area and shelves- only one person can get to this area at a time. We don't gamble or buy the alcohol program. Loved the Waterworks and Sportsquare area for both adults and children. Saw the Rockstar show one night and one adult comedy show which were both great. Both times ordered drinks and service was quick and friendly. Loved the new atrium hologram and the entertainment there; also enjoyed the Ocean Plaza area and band, Red Frog Pub area, and deck 5 walking area with BBQ (we ate there once on embarkation, heard it was very busy the rest of the week). We do use the Cloud 9 spas on all the Carnival ships, and enjoyed this area every day for about 2 hours each time. We purchased the weekly pass on embarkation; the Vista design was fine with us, we used every part of the spa- I love the lavender scrub in the steam rooms, and we both loved the hot sauna, the infrared room, and the heated tile benches. There is a hot tub next to the benches so, depending on the crowd, there can be conversation going on in the room which on other ships is usually a quiet area. It didn't bother us if people talked in the hot tub, but on one occasion there was a very intoxicated man drinking and he was very loud. Staff should be sure there is no alcohol being drunk in this area due to the safety issue with extreme heat being used. We were waitlisted for the Chef Table, a galley tour and multi-course (sample-type) dinner that must be pre-ordered, and were approved a couple days before our assigned night. Enjoyed meeting Chef Deepak again (last met on the Breeze in 16) and his crew. New menu was amazing, dedicated Chef Table room was nice, and enjoyed meeting the table mates near us. We did notice that the galley tour was shorter, but we still enjoyed that part of the experience. Still includes a fun magic presentation by an onboard magician and group photo. Must-do for any chefs or foodies out there that like to try new things. We also went to Bonsai Sushi one night for dinner, always amazing and no different on this ship, and to the 555 Steakhouse for my husband's birthday. The steakhouse started out great with a complimentary lobster BLT app. Our order was not correct though, but our server offered to correct it immediately. We opted to keep the entrees we had; hubby was surprised with a birthday treat and staff sang Happy Birthday. We also were given a glass of champagne for the celebration. Overall it was up there with the Chef Table for best night out. We enjoyed Lido activities, especially the Hairy Chest competition which is silly fun where most everyone should be able to chuckle;) Serenity, the adult area, looked nice with the salad bar, but we only walked through once since we had children on board to monitor. The Havana area was nice, but we did not use it after 7 since it was already past sunset when we were allowed access (nice area for those booked in Havana Cabins). We used Your Time Dining, which was excellent. The hostess, Andrea, was always smiling and had something nice to say. Our various servers were amazing, but especially David from St. Vincent, as we created some musical chairs with two tables, 3 adults, and 5 children between two family groups. Food was served within a reasonable time and was delicious, no complaints from anyone in our group. Sea Day Brunch was excellent. Debarkation was one of the best we have ever experienced. Only issue we had was SAS dropping us at the wrong airport Hotel for our one night post-stay. The Hampton Airport North sent their shuttle over to get us and they are excellently located near Slackers Sports Bar, McDonalds, Wendy's, and other businesses. Slept great after watching some football in the hotel lounge. Pool area was nice to catch some final rays during the day. Can't recommend Doughboys Italian food; the Calzone we had was subpar, almost no meat and full of ricotta, not that good, ymmv. Free airport shuttle and no issues at FLL; pretty fast TSA check and one gate change with Jet Blue. First time using Jet Blue, will use again. Prepay for bags, save $. I will write our cabin review below. The Family Harbor Lounge was great! Read Less

This was the first cruise our family has ever been on. So, we had nothing to compare the boat to. That being said, we did a lot of research and hoped that Carnival Vista would live up to our expectations. And it did! We have always thought that we would not enjoy cruising. After the first day, we still felt that way. There were a lot of people on this boat and there were lines for food and activities at peak times. However, we learned when to visit places and avoid lines, which greatly improved our trip. We were at breakfast in the buffet every morning by 7:30/8am and it was practically empty. Then the grown-ups would head to the Tides Pool, while the kids went to the ropes course. By 11am, the crowds were moving in and we would grab an early lunch. In the afternoon our kids and their cousins (ages 10-12) would head to the library to play games, watch a movie, visit the arcade or kids clubs. We opted for an early dinner every night (5:30 seating). By the time we finished, the majority of people were just starting to have dinner. So, we would head to the Havana Club pools and hot tubs (open to the public at 7pm) or catch an 8pm show or poolside movie. The Havana Club was practically empty at night and it was beautiful to watch the stars from the back of the boat, while sitting in one of the hot tubs. The food on the boat was decent but not outstanding. The main dining room food was decent. Probably the best food was at Guys Burger bar. We also enjoyed breakfast at Blue Iguana or lunch at Cucina del Capitano or Fat Jimmy's BBQ (which are both free at lunch). We did pay a little extra and enjoyed dinner at Bonsai Sushi one night. The sky ride on this boat is amazing. The waterslides were a lot of fun and our kids did the ropes course multiple times every day. We also took the kids to the thrill theater, which they all enjoyed. My husband and I watched one movie in the Imax and there was hardly anyone else there! The movie theater is one of the few places, if not the only place, that offers fountain sodas. So, if you get the soda package, you can get a drink at the theater, even if you aren't watching a movie. This ship is very clean. It's colorful, nicely decorated and overall organized very well. We would highly recommend this ship to anyone! Our kids under 12 but we will definitely try to get a Havana Stateroom when our youngest is 12! Read Less

We were a party of 4. Grandparents with teenagers. Flew into Miami stayed at Sheraton near port. Getting to ship was easy and boarding went smoothly. We had a balcony room. Which was beautiful. Even with two teens it was nice. Large TV, comfortable beds. Room Stewart very attentive. We had anytime dining. This was only negative for me. Perhaps it was because we were a party of four. We were being placed next to service areas. It took a long time for service. Some people complained they were missing shows because of wait. I mentioned this to Matre D and they began to move us nearer to window. This helped some. We dined in Steakhouse (our favorite) and the Italian restaurant, which was ok, kids liked. I'm not a big pasta eater. We visited San Juan where we hired a tour guide. It was a nice tour. A large well air conditioned van. Then we visited St Martin we took a cab to Orient Beach. Bought a few great jewelry pieces from a woman who has been in vogue. http://azitiz.fr/acceuilazitiz_en.html Then took cab to yacht club and ate lunch at a quiet French restaurant overlooking boats. It was very good. We shopped in Marigot for ray ban sunglasses. We returned to ship via cab which took us the scenic route. Lastly we took catamaran snorkel tour to 7,000 ft drop. Beautiful and exhilarating. Very attentive staff finishing up at a beach music and dancing Back onboard there was no shortage of things to see and do. It was wonderful. Shows very good, comedians hilarious. We also chose to hire the Dream Studio private photographer. This was so nice and very high quality photos and lighting. Our teens liked they didn't have to stand in long lines for pictures. They had places to go and things to do. Playing the many sports games, etc. It was easy to stay in touch via iMessage. Getting off went smoothly as did flight back home. I highly recommend this ship. I have cancer and have been on 3 cruises in last 6 months, all with family members. making memories. I mentioned we've done the dream studios. Jessica Rosslee was our favorite photographer. She's good really really good. Find her on Facebook and precook if you can. She trained with Don on Vista and then Legend now Dream. Many say it's too expensive, it's not, they work with you and quality is excellent. Don't be afraid to check them out. For me this was a highlight of the cruise. My family can enjoy for years to come. Lots to do on this ship. Never made it to IMAX. Never felt crowded. You're going to love it! Read Less

My second time this year on the Vista, we chose this itinerary as our first Christmas cruise and opportunity to enjoy the Havana area. Our ports included St. Maarten, San Juan, and Grand Turk. I was so amazed that so many of the crew remembered us from our cruise this summer in the Mediterranean. Service overall was fantastic, from our amazing cabin steward Paul in the Havana area aft balcony on deck 6, Franklin our bartender in the Havana area, Gabriel our bartender at the Alchemy bar, the amazing hostess in the Fahrenheit Steakhouse where we ate twice (again), to Matt and Cookie cruise director and entertainment directors extraordinaires! I know that common areas on the ship can be crowded at times. I do not like crowds or lines, so I planned my experience accordingly. With Your Time Dining, when I did choose to eat in the MDR, I'd eat early between 5:30 and 6:00 to check in. We never waited in line more than 5 minutes. For the must-try Pig and Anchor Sea Day barbecue, I went right when it opened or later in the afternoon to avoid the crowds. It's superb, by the way. The brisket, chicken, sausage, mac and cheese, baked beans, and cornbread are best in class. For JiJi's Asian Mongolian wok lunch, I chose embarkation day to avoid any crowds at all. Of course, with the exclusive access to the Havana Area in the day time, our hot tubs, pools, loungers and large day beds were never crowded. This was heaven! It changes the whole cruise. It is completely worth it. If you know that service in the MDR can take 2-3 hours for dinner and you want to see a show, you should keep that in mind when ordering. Food in the MDR is just okay, especially if you stick to standard entrees. I don't do this. I order more unusual things like mussels, oysters Rockefeller, cheese plates, fish entrees, and port inspired entrée selections. These tended to be absolutely delicious. Also, if nothing sounded interesting to me, I'd make a meal of multiple appetizers and eat tapas style. I wish ordering a drink in the MDR meant that you could order from your wait captain. Once we ordered and never got our drinks. Also, it would be better if they had roving waiters on the decks to take drink orders when you're sunbathing. This kind of service is spotty on the ship. I'd eat every night in the steakhouse if they offered more entrees. It's excellent service, quiet, romantic, and superior quality dining. The hostess and wait staff went far beyond expectations to delight us with accommodating service. We had the Cheers package and loved a particular champagne only available there, so we stopped into the restaurant before dinner to get a glass and the hostess would just greet us and get our glasses. I felt like a VIP. Late night dining is great at Pizzeria del Capitano with hand tossed pizzas. This was the longest time we ever waited to eat, but we didn't mind because we conversed with others as we waited after midnight and got a beer at the bar right there. We'd have room service for breakfast and tried it once for dinner. My insider tip for this is to order an extra BLT for dinner and put it in your cabin fridge for breakfast the next day. Also tip your room service waiter! I loved the Studio VIP show and the America Rocks show this time. There was a small line the night we walked up to the Studio VIP show a few minutes early, and the cast pulled us out of line and asked us if we wanted to be in the show. We said yes, and got front row seats! If you're up for no-holds-barred adults entertainment, do not miss the NSFW late night adult scavenger hunt in the Liquid Lounge. I have never had so much fun on a cruise. We played a lot of trivia and won our coveted ship on a stick from the Vista this time as well. Our aft facing balcony was perfect with a view of the portside hot tub and the wake of the engines. The room is standard like all Carnival balconies with deeper balcony, Havana toiletries (including a body wash, body wash/shampoo dual purpose wash, and but no separate conditioner, so be aware of that), and special robes and towels. After 7PM, they open the Havana area to the entire ship. Because this was holiday season there were a lot of teens on vacation. On two nights, we had loud teens right outside our room in the hot tub not 10 feet from us. This was a bit of a nuisance, so I'd avoid this same type room when school was out if I sailed on the Vista again. Our itinerary was completely reversed due to storms in the Caribbean, but we had perfect weather, so I wasn't phased. St. Maarten is great for beaches, shopping in Philipsburg, and dining in Marigot. Our snorkeling tour through Carnival was cancelled the day before with no explanation, so we just booked a bus tour of the island with an opportunity to have lunch in Marigot. Good call! The island creole meal at Rosemary's on the beach was superb! Old Town in San Juan is absolutely charming for a food tour and a walking tour right off the ship, and you can walk to the beautiful, photogenic seaside port El Morro right from the ship. Grand Turk has pristine beaches, but Governor's beach right off the ship near Margaritaville is too crowded for me. I took a cab to Cockburn town for the best conch ever and then went on to Pillory beach a bit farther down and not as crowded. Loved it! This was the first cruise where we met a number of other gay and lesbian couples at the Alchemy Bar on the first night LGBT gathering with whom we hit it off, spent time off and on at shows, at trivia, and even meeting for dinner. We were so pleased! Frankly, even the rest of the people in the Havana area and the crew were incredibly friendly. We had so much fun. We loved taking spin classes in the mornings (for a $23/class per person fee) in the gym. The classes were always sold out, so sign up in advance! The technology with provided chest strap heart rate monitors and biking shoes is really cool! I've cruised plenty of times with Carnival now, and I know how to tailor an experience to have a wonderful time, avoid the crowds, mitigate any disappointments. I'm sorry that so many other people don't have the experience I have. I'd only book a spa cabin or a Havana cabin on this ship to insure a fabulous cruise. Read Less

We wanted to experience the newest and the largest ship Carnival had to offer. We were not disappointed. We didn't get to port in Grand Turk due to the weather, which was sad, but beyond the control of crew. Better to be safe than sorry. The ship had more activity than we could possibly do. There was so much to do and the entertainment staff (Cruise Director Matt, Cookie, an NoNo) top notch!!!! The singers on the ship were not as good as we have experienced in the past, but the shows were still good. Because the ship was nearly sold out when we purchased our ticket, we ended up in an interior room. It was HUGE!!! We were really surprised with the space we had. We also never felt crowded, With all the people on board, the ship never seemed crowed, Odd but true. Embarkation and debarkation was also a breeze. It seems as if they have all the bugs sorted and its a well oiled operation. I am ready to go again!! Read Less

I booked an Eastern Caribbean cruise on the Carnival Vista Nov 2016 for 11 days from New York. EMBARKATION: I wanted the FTTF (Faster to the Fun) ticket but it was sold out. The embarkation process was very quick even without it. My Nov 2017 cruise, Ill be platinum so I'll be priority from now on. If you can get the FTTF tickets, its worth it in my opinion. But as soon as you book, go to Shore Excursions and click on the home port and you should see if its not sold out. The cost is $69.95. Its worth it to prevent you from standing in long lines. THE SHIP: This ship is very large with lots of things to do on it. 2016 was the Inaugural year. DECOR: The décor is great and different from other Carnival vessels. Its not overly done. But if you are on the ship to enjoy your cruise, the décor shouldn't stop you from having a great time. They have glass steps and a beautiful atrium that looks like a huge champagne glass in the center. Its very bright on the ship. CABIN: My son and I booked a Cove Balcony 2378 for the first time. The cove balconies are great. Many say its closer to the water. That is true, but you can't reach out and touch the ocean so don't get confused if you should hear that. It is very enclosed so you don't have to worry about anyone peeping around your balcony. You may feel a slight mist from the ocean. The life boats are above your cabin so you won't have a lot of sun beaming down on you but you still have a great view. My cabin had a connecting door to another cabin that caught me by surprise, however, the neighbor has a door as well so you don't have to worry about them opening up their door and can walk right in your room. They have a flat screen TV on the wall. The bathroom is your typical Carnival bathroom. The beds are comfortable. I had a great cabin stewart that attended to my needs. We had our Gold member bottled water, robes, and 2016 pins already in the cabin. We also got a beautiful inaugural wooden case with a pen/card inside along with a letter from the captain congratulating us on the cruise on the Vista. All guests got this gift. DINING: Here's the one issue that I have. If you decide to select the 'YOUR TIME' dining, you may have a headache until you get used to it. Its not your typical walk up to the dining counter and get checked in method. You literally have to go to the 5th floor to check in. They will give you a receipt and then you have to go to the 3rd floor to be seated. If you don't get there early, it will be very crowed. I'm talking so crowded that the stairs, elevator areas and hallways were full of people. So if you had a cabin on that floor (not sure if there are cabins on that floor), you will be overwhelmed when you get off the elevator. Then you have 2 lines. You have to stand in one line if you have been checked in or in the other line if you haven't been. We were sent back to the 5th floor to get checked in just to have to come back to stand in the line again. I was furious. We then understood what to do the next day and it wasn't as bad but still annoying. The food was great. They had this Kale Ceasar salad that was delicious. I had that every night. One night they had BBQ ribs that was fall off the bone amazing! The Lido deck was your typical buffet style food. The food was good there as well. I didn't get a chance to stop at the Seafood Shack but will the next time I book. ENTERTAINMENT/ACTIVITIES: Well, I did a lot of resting on the ship but I did get a chance to go to the IMAX theatre. It was beautiful in there. You will have to pay for small bags of popcorn and soda that can be expensive. You will have to also pay for IMAX as well. My son and I got a chance to ride on the Skyride. It was really fun. I enjoyed the gym and most of all the spa. PORTS/EXCURSIONS: We visited Antigua and that was a nice place to visit. We were not able to got to Amber Cove due to the heavy rain storm DEBARKATION: The debarkation was pretty simple and smooth. SERVICE OVERALL: The Carnival Vista is a great and beautiful ship. I had great service and a wonderful time. I cancelled my sailing on the Carnival Splendor to rebook on the Carnival Vista for my Nov 2017 sailing. This time its in an Ocean Suite that I cannot wait to rate. Read Less

We were looking for a newer ship with an exotic Eastern Caribbean itinerary for our early summer vacation and this was a great option, not to mention a great deal. Living in Miami, I love the fact that I can just take a taxi (now UBER) to the terminal and hop on the ship. Embarkation wasnt the best so I will look into Carnival's FTTF for the future. The food variety and quality was phenomenal. Everything from a 24 hour pizza bar to Guy Fieri's Burger Joint where you can get incredible burgers with all the fixins. So many options but my favorites were Mongolian BBQ and the Tandoor area Indian dishes. Our cruise director Matt was a beacon of energy throughout the whole ship. He had us dancing and fooling around by the pool area, not to mention hosting most of the Entertainment throughout the cruise. The ports on our voyage was St Maarten, where we took a taxi and explored the capital of St. Martin, located on the French side of the island, Marigot. Our second stop was San Juan, With its cobblestone streets and well conserved buildings one can really see how it looked back in colonial times. Before checking out the Castillo de San Cristobal, which is the largest Spanish fort built in the New World, We made a stop at Caficultura, a small coffee shop located on the North side of Plaza Colon. I highly recommend this spot if you need to take a break or just need a snack. Didn't have much time in San Juan so we took a taxi to take a quick look at Castillo de San Felipe del Morro before heading back to the ship. In St Kitts we took a taxi to Cockleshell Bay with some decent snorkeling and in Grank Turk just walked down the beach and enjoyed the beautiful scenery... and some rum. Gorgeous! Read Less
