The Danube is a gem!

Review for a Europe - River Cruise Cruise on Viking Gullveig

Viking helped us select the Romantic Danube river cruise as our maiden voyage. We wanted to visit Prague, Vienna and Budapest and this cruise ticked off those boxes. September is typically a great travel month weather-wise, so September on the Danube it was. Viking handled everything--flights, hotels (we had before and after cruise extensions in Prague and Budapest) and all transports. We didn't ...

We ran across the Budapest to Regensburg cruise at a travel show. Too good to pass up. Air, drink package. We will get into things later. Our second Viking cruise. The staff was great. Met nice people. We don’t spring for all the extra outings, I enjoy the top shelf whisky in the evenings and talking to people. Food and service top rate. We tip up front for some folks on top of standard. ...

My wife and I had never been to Europe. On a recommendation from friends we did the river cruise on the Danube. We didn't want the any of the massive ocean cruise ship trips (just not for us). We really enjoyed the cruise, and the crew was above amazing! The small group on the cruise (120?) was just right. All the meals, all the food on the ship was just fantastic. We did the free excursions ...

Passion Play

Passion Play was the main reason for this trip. We booked the flight in 2020 and then had to let the reservation (money) stay with Viking. Originally we booked with business class upgrade and expected it to be entirely seated in business like it has been on previous trips. When Viking booked the outbound flight from Austin to Washington, we were placed in coach class. We checked with ...

We had a great river cruise on the Rhine a few years ago, decided to do the Budapest-Regensburg Danube cruise. Wow, talk about geographic differences. The cities Budapest, Vienna, (Germany:)Passau, Regensburg were as expected; gorgeous. 1000 year old architecture just blows me away, and walking inside of cathedrals leaves me breathless. But the actual river cruise part was SO different from the ...

Dream Trip going to the Christmas Markets

Review for a Europe - River Cruise Cruise on Viking Gullveig

I had read an article by Wendy Perrin about this cruise. She took her family to the Christmas markets and i thought I'd love to take my wife on this trip. As everyone has heard by now, there was a pretty severe drought in Europe this year. We knew there was a possibility that our cruise was not going to go as initially planned. Our cruise went from Budapest, Hungary to Nuremberg, Germany. The ...

Romantic Danube with Bus Detours

Review for a Europe - All Cruise on Viking Gullveig

Our cruise was scheduled to start at Nurenburg but the river levels were so low that boat only got as far upstream from Budapest as Passau, Germany. The boat was docked at a freight yard and bus trips were scheduled to the three cities on the upper river. So there was actually very little "river cruising" for the first three days. So book your trip in the Spring instead of Summer when after ...

Overall, I had a very nice experience on the Viking Gullveig for the Romantic Danube cruise in November 2017. There were some really wonderful parts of the cruise and some areas that need improvement. At the outset, the booking process was pretty straight forward. We worked directly with Viking to book our room. The representative was very knowledgeable and responsive to questions. ...
