Arrival & Embarkation
We flew to San Juan on departure day. Our flight arrived on time around 1:00 and we went right to the port. The cab fare was stated at the airport and after about 20 mins we were at the port.
I noticed little to no signage instructing you where to go. We had priority embarkation and located the luggage drop-off and got in line. We were in our cabin about 25 mins after ...
As most know, Serenade is headed for the Mediterranean in April, so she is in her last few laps of the Caribbean for awhile. As well, she is slated for some refitting later in the year. The ship itself is showing her age and use. We were in JS 1100 at the aft of the ship. A very nice cabin with a large balcony. The bath door had been damaged and it appeared they had simply taped over the damaged ...
I am an avid "explore and conquer" type of vacationer, so always thought the cruising side would be too laid back, more like an all inclusive vacation where it was all sit around the pool getting drunk with several thousand others doing the same thing and nothing else really going on. Boy was I wrong! With five islands to explore, as well as all of the ship activities, it was almost too much to ...
Arrival
We flew to San Juan day prior on Jet Blue from Rochester, NY via JFK - no problems, on time, nice flights.
We took a taxi to our hotel. Driver quoted fixed price as listed on the sheet passed out at the taxi stand. Note there is a $1.50 fuel cost surcharge in effect.
We stayed at the Hotel Miramar. Not fancy, basic, small room, but adequate for 1 night. Clean, quiet [in spite of ...
This was our third cruise on RCI and our first on Serenade of the Seas. Everything wasn't perfect, but I didn't expect it to be. All in all a very nice ship and the staff clearly went out of their way to tend to our every need. That was a big plus.
Checking in was as smooth as silk. Took a cab from the San Juan airport; cost $25 with 3 bags and took about half hour to get to the Pan American ...
This was the 4th cruise for my husband and I-- three with RCI and one on the Celebrity Solstice. This was our first time on the Southern Caribbean itinerary.
Pre-Cruise
We arrived in San Juan around 4:30pm on Thursday and decided to cab to our hotel, the Intercontinental Hotel and Resort. It's about a $11 cab ride, plus $1 for each piece of luggage. I had won the hotel on Priceline. Check-in ...
This was our first cruise for all of us (DH and I - late 30's, grandma - in her 60's and 2 kids - ages 4 and 6).
I'll list the factors of the cruise from least favorite to favorite:
On the least favorite corner:
SPA
I had a reflexology treatment on the last morning and it was, by far, the worst spa treatment I have ever had, and I do get a reflexology treatment two or three times each ...
We went on a 7 night Southern Caribbean cruise at the end of November to early December, 2011 with the Royal Caribbeans on the Serenade of the Seas. We flew from a small city from a Western Canadian Province to Toronto, then en routed to San Juan. We landed in San Juan close to 4 pm. A transfer was pre-arranged at the time of our booking.
The registration process was somewhat efficient. The ...
We enjoyed every aspect of this cruise! The crew and staff were very friendly and helpful. The dining room staff was entertaining, friendly and helpful as well. The food was very good and they had a nice variety also. The people we shared a table with made the trip so much fun we couldn't wait to get to dinner each night! They have become friends for life!!
Our room was nice sized and was well ...
Port San Juan - We flew in from Dallas the day before. It only took us about 20 minutes to get our bags at baggage claim in the airport. From there, we got a cab to the Marriott and cab fare was $21, plus $1 per bag. The hotel was older and had a musty smell but the ocean front balcony view was great. The spa/gym was in the basement so there was no view....did not like that.
