Great destinations - Rome, Athens, Valletta, Kotor, Corfu, Corsia, Naples, Palermo, Santorini, Barcelona, Katalolon, Dubrovnik, Sete and Nimes. This cruise had it pro's and cons. Very nice ship with excellent dining rooms. Theres a full walk around deck (deck 7) and sports facilities on deck 19. The Casino is well laid out, even though we don't use it and the Princess Theatre is a large and impressive venue for major performances. The Piazza was smaller than I expected, but served its purpose well. There's also a nice range of additional restaurants including the Crown Grill and Share. The shops and boutiques are what we'd expect on such a ship. Not much for them - except some expensive watches and sports cameras. Perhaps these Princess could add items and apparel more for men. The buffet style dining on LIDO deck was disappointing with poor quality food. I've been on three previous Princess cruises and the buffet on LIDO was very impressive. Not on this cruise. Allowing passengers to handle ladles and food one after another is also unhygienic and an invitation for a gastro outbreak - which is exactly what happened. We avoided the buffet dining after a forgettable experience on our first day. I'm thankful I and my wife had the good sense to abandon the meal and discretely dispose of the first bites. As it would turn out, the ship copped a wave of severe stomach virus (gastro) affecting and quarantining over a hundred passengers and some crew. We were lucky, avoiding the indignity, discomfort and agony of those affected passengers confined to their rooms - even on port days. An incident where the ship travelling at speed though the straits of Messina suddenly changed course, listing at 6% starboard, causing me to lose my footing towards an open balcony door on Riviera deck 14. I could no longer see the sky and with only the ocean looming towards me and being unable to stabilise my balance, this incident was extremely distressing. For a moment I thought it was all over. There was substantial damage to the food buffet areas as trays, plates, tables and chairs went flying. Pools were emptied and it was a very serious incident. A request for details of the incident was never provided by passenger services, who to our dismay denied the incident even happened. Food and crew in our dining room were amazing - 10/10 ! A wide variety of courses - something different every day in Club Class. High fives to MaitreD's Nazram and Daniel, to Cinta, our welcoming lady, our super fantastic waiters Mark, Ryan, Jelenna, Siti, Miriam, Dieri and Yongli. You made our dining an enjoyable experience and we can't thank you enough for your fine service. Entertainment: Again, pro's and cons. There were almost zero attraction shows in the Princess Theatre. Why, I don't know but no explanation was given. Very poor effort Princess ! However, amazing violinists "The Lado Duo", comic Richie Minervini and Hypnotist David Knight are superb! Look them up. "The Lado Duo" deserved their own showcase in the Princess Theatre - an opportunity lost by the entertainment director. Also, bing a mostly baby-boomer cruise, having main shows at 10.15pm is too late. Have one show at 9.30pm and the Princess Theatre will be full house every night. Malta was impressive and an unexpected surprise and our highlight. Italy stunning as were Greek destinations Athens, Plaka and Santorini. The Acropolis was busy and despite the crowds, easy to navigate. Take care on a wet day so you don't slip on the marble. Naples on the Italian mainland and Palermo in Sicily offer a journey you must experience to appreciate. You'll either love them or not but try to take in the tortured history of these places. If you can't see it in the buildings and streets, you'll see it on the faces of locals. Both these locations are close enough to the port to walk. Corsica, Corfu Montenegro and Dubrovnik offered amazing views, food, walks and historic sites. Barcelona didn't excite me as I thought it would - but it was Sunday. That said it was worth the stop over to visit the Sagrada Família church. This has to be seen to be believed. The fresh food/produce of the Port market in Corsica, just 50 metres from the ship is sensational! It's only open in the morning so go early and have breakfast. I'm of Italian background and honestly, the pizza I had here is the BEST I've tasted. Sooooooo fresh! Southern France reminded me of Tuscany and Northern Italy. The ancient Romans had much to do in France and oddly we saw more Roman influence than French, especially in buildings and wineries (mostly originating from Italian vines and owners). The Arena, located in Nimes, is a smaller cousin of Rome's 'Colosseum', again built by the Romans. Perfectly preserved and adjacent to the Roman temple, one would be excused for thinking they were in Italy. Just a heads up for diners who love seafood - some of the seafood on some islands are imported from Spain, such as muscles. Ask the restaurant if their seafood is local or imported or a mixture of both. Preservatives can set off allergic reactions, as so happened to my wife. Back on the ship, the so-so attitude of some crew at the front desk (passenger service desk) left much to be desired. Again, not all the crew but some seemed 'disinterested', kind of like the passengers were 'bothering them'. I've never experienced this on our previous Princes and MSC cruises and granted some passengers can be difficult but we are very respectful and didn't expect poor service from the desk. Our Stateroom was exceptional, on the Riviera deck and kept immaculate by Robelito, our stateroom steward. Embark/Disembark was flawless and smooth as was getting on/off during port days. Princess are very good in these areas. Internet is pricey but we had excellent coverage. The gym is very good as is the Lotus Spa, pools and general amenities. The medical staff are fantastic, helping my wife through 2 emergencies, one severe swelling due to an allergic reaction to a dinner on shore and another to help with a minor chest infection - thanks medics! One thing of importance - this 22 day cruise was two eleven day cruises back to back and Princess could have made a better effort to provide more variety like in room movies/TV shows and most certainly improve acts in the main Princess Theatre. If Princess want to join 2 cruises then please freshen up in-room entertainment at the start of the second leg. All up though, this cruise had its highlights and its horrors. We've done 5 cruises, the first 4 on Princess and one with MSC. Would I recommend Princess? Yes, of course but seriously, they need to move quickly on the issues I raised to keep their reputation intact. We'll be booking 3 new cruises over the next 18 months and if this is the new norm at Princess, then we'll be looking at another liner. Read Less

I chose Princess mainly because of the itinerary offered in the dates we preferred. I have cruised the Mediterranean before, but Princess offered some new ports I had, yet, visited. This trip was special, as it was eleven nights with my two grown daughters, neither who had ever visited any of the countries included. It was wonderful- great service,, attentive staff, and excellent excursions offered. We visited seven ports and took advantage of an excursion at each stop we made. We also enjoyed the dining and service provided ar each meal. The menu was good and varied. One daughter is a pescatarian, and she was a bit concerned about what the offerings might be, but she thoroughly enjoyed the choices provided and there was never an issue. Because there were three of us, we had a mini suite. I think I would upgrade to a full suite if I were to book again, just to give us that much more space. Though we managed just fine, accommodations were a bit tight. All in all , a most pleasant experience, and I would consider Orincess again if I were thinking of another cruise. Read Less

Staff was unfriendly and rude across the board. Bar staff seemed put out and irritated when I ordered drinks. ON top of that they had gratuity added onto every drink. It was not an option to leave less than 15 or 18%. Beyond irritating. When I passed staff on the ship they never said hi or smiled. They were over it. Upon boarding the ship I saw a crew member near the pool in the smoking section having a cigarette. So gross. This ship needs new leadership from the top down. High end restaurants had bad service. At one dinner we paid $39 extra per person. The waiter neglected us and took no responsibility for the bad service. Another restaurant blamed the scheduling system for the poor service however they didn't greet us after 10 minutes of standing in the entry. This ship missed the ball on so many levels. I'll never sail with Princess cruise lines again. Read Less

We have cruised with other lines before and decided to try Princess based on a recommendation from our travel agent due to the specific ports we wanted to visit. We did a 14 day cruise with Princess Cruise lines. Never made it to Mykonos due to a storm. Food was average but nothing spectacular. Too many starchy foods. Not enough vegetables and fruits. Entertainment was just okay. Not enough planned activities accept pushing bingo games and paper airplane races. Don’t buy a drink package. If on Dolphin Deck, the tinder boats are under you and when they are launched at 6 am, you will be knocked out of bed by the noise. Gym was sub par. Two standard stationary bikes for the whole ship to use. The Sanctuary area is a joke. Don’t waste your money for $80 a day. The art auction staff must all be new as they didn’t have full knowledge on the artist they were selling. Overall staff were not as friendly as on other cruise lines we have travelled on. I honestly do not believe we will ever cruise with Princess in the future. Read Less

This matched some places we wanted to see, particularly Crete, and also allowed is to spend a few days in Rome before the cruise and then in Athens after the cruise. Princess is one of the top cruise lines and embarkation was fast. Our bags were delivered minutes after arriving at our cabin. We only saw our cabin steward once at the beginning but there were no problems. The entertainment was good, however, we have been on ships that had far better entertainment. The excursions were great, although we could not dock at Mykonos, which was no fault to the ship. The excursion staff were very efficient and the shore side excursion people were very good. The only criticism would be that the food quality is not as good as it used to be, particularly in the buffet on the Lido deck. Overall, it was a good trip and we would recommend it. Read Less

My sisters and I chose this cruise because of the itinerary and length of time to enjoy together. The ship was amazing and staff were incredibly kind and personable. We loved the entertainment, especially Kory Simon the piano man and the shows. Meals were sensational and a speciality meal in the Crown Grill surpasses our expectations. The scenery of the countries we visited and history of Europe is fascinating. 21 days flew as we enjoyed every aspect of the ship, the staff and fellow passengers. The international cafe was a hotspot after excursions for a relaxing drink and snack before our formal dining room experience and we also could tan in the afternoon high tea at three if we chose high was so nicely served. The crowd control was very well dealt with by offering so many different venues throughout the ship as well which made it feel very comfortable. I loved every minute of the 21 days and my next trip will be longer- again with Princess Cruises! Kudos to Princess! Read Less

Flew to Rome to board the ship.Booked an expensive junior suite and the experience was ruined by two anti social demons in the stateroom next door.Mother and daughter from New Zealand. On the 2nd day they were shouting and bawling and swearing and using the F word.I spoke to the cabin steward who promised to get it stopped. It did not stop and they were on the balcony at 6am swearing and being a nuisance. I got customer services involved and i did everything correct to try and get this noise stopped.Customer Services failed to stop the noise and the cruise was ruined. If you are caught smoking you get fined and possibly asked the leave the ship so why allow guests to spoil a holiday with noise and not kick them off or move them ? A lot of obnoxious guests on this ship - foul language and mostly American females who were doing this. Food was hit and miss - some meals had to go back due to being badly cooked. Mykonos was not visited due to bad weather and another boring sea day to endure. I complained to Princess when i got home about the noise problem and they offered me zero compensation - nothing !!!! I had filmed the noise and had evidence so i said Ok lets go to court. They replied with still no offer of any compensation.Downright uncaring and i will NEVER book with them again. It was such a joke how they handled the noise problem on board.I heard the noisy neighbours slam the cabin door as they went out. About 20 mins later a knock at my cabin door - Filton a customer service guy. He said he had been listening to the cabin next door and wanted to assure me all is now quiet and no problem !! I said THATS BECAUSE THEY ARE NOT IN !!!!! He said Ok he will find them and tell them to stop this noise.Waste of time as it never stopped. Read Less

It's the only cruise line that I travel one .In fact my first cruise was on the Emerald. We arrived in Rome one day prior and it was amazing. As a platinum member the check-in was very fast. The ship was refurbished but the stateroom decoration is outdated. The food was very good . The boutiques aren't interesting even boring. The musicians are very talented and the singers also. The atmosphere was very relaxing. We had the anytime dining and its a great option if you want to relax. the entertainment presentations at the Princess theater were the worst I've seen so far. Our room cleaner wasn't friendly and helpful .The worts we had so far.I'll remember him for a long time. The ports offers very affordable shuttle that make your reconsider the necessity of paying for expensive excursions. The one in Corfu and Chania were a waist of money and my time. Read Less

The food quality and selection is not what I have been used to on Princess cruise. Was served French fries with a filet mignon. Being on a Mediterranean cruise would have expected a better selection of seafood and fish. King prawns were the size of baby shrimps. Although the MichelAngelo waiting staff was really courteous and helpful. Pedro the head waiter was good to find us nice and enjoyable people to sit with. Front desk service is useless they give you the run around! We were booked on a shore excursion on our day of disembarking but the bus couldn’t carry luggage. It would have been great to visit Mykonos but the rough sea prevent it us to port.... the captain decided for the safety of the passenger to continue our route. I’m glad that he made that call for our safety. Princess didn’t live up to their slogan.... Come Back New! I found that Princess cruise line has been going down in quality over the last 5 years. Bucket list cruise for both me and my spouse and wanted to see if we would like to go back to the Greek islands for a further visit. And we will. Very surprised on how it was easy to embark in Civitavecchia and loved our stay for 2 days before. Highly recommend it! First time booking a back to back cruise and i would not mind doing that again. I found the food was a little repetitive for my personal preference and not hot enough either in the dining room (anytime dining) and the buffet (world market). Breakfast was a little repetitive and Princess no longer offers toaster/grill to make your own toast, bagels so your toast, bagels, english are cold. Same for their eggs sunny side but under a heat lamps, so stiff and not good. They did offer build your own omelettes which was very good. We went to Kotor Montenegro twice and would do that again. We missed Mykonos because of high winds but that could not be helped. The staff were nice and mostly very helpful. I will cruise again with Princess. Read Less

This was our third cruise with Princess Cruise Lines. The three-week itinerary of the Emerald Princess met our requirements as we wanted to visit multiple ports in the Mediterranean. We booked our daily excursions through the ship's website (online, prior to leaving home) and were very happy with each of our selections. The tour guides were knowledgeable and proficient in the English language. The ship's staff is very organized about making sure each passenger gets to their appropriate meeting point and onto the correct bus each morning. We also thoroughly enjoyed our meals in the dining room and the variety of entertainment offered on board the ship each day and throughout the evening. The staff on the ship made our voyage extremely special and pleasant every day. We had an extremely positive experience and look forward to cruising with Princess Cruise Line again in the (hopefully) not too distant future. Read Less

We chose this cruise because of the ports of call and our Parents, who went with us, are Platinum members on Princess. The check in was the quickest we have experienced in comparison to Royal Caribbean. The Food choices each day in the restaurants were excellent and very appealing to look at. PROS: Check in process was efficient and quick The itinery was great. Ports of call were gorgeous and perfectly fit our bucket list. Staff was very friendly and professional. This was especially true with stateroom Stewards and casino hosts. Bar staff was quick and friendly. We booked interior rooms because we didn't plan on staying inside. Were very surprised with how spacious the rooms were and the bedding was so comfortable!! CONS: Entertainment was very poor and catered to over 70 crowd. No variety each night. Food in Dining rooms were great but Buffet selection and taste was poor. Part of our excursion was canceled to rough seas(Amalfi Coast and Pompei) They took us to Sarrento by bus and dropped us off at the square for 1 hour. Poor substitute for a boat cruise down the Amalfi Coast. Princess credited us $40 for the change in itinary. Eve though I appreciate the thought, I think this was highway robbery when you consider the substitution. I felt that Princess Excurtions did not credit us the appropriate amount for the shortfall. How can you compare the experience and price to being dumped at the city square to sit in the hot sun for an hour. I would have preferred to return to the ship and use the credit on another excursion. This left a poor taste in our overall impression of the cruise. They lost one star for this experience. Read Less

This was our fourth cruise on princess 2nd time on the Emerald. Th is was a 14 day cruise. Starting in Rome. 10 ports ending in Barcelona. I recommend this cruise or any cruise going to th is region of the world, we previously did a family land tour of northern Italy so this would be all new territory. We were picked up at our hotel in the Spanish steps area to the Ship. I think it was about Two hours. This trip was my wife and I first time cruising just the two of us. Getting on the ship was very organized and quick dropped off our bags waited about 2 minutes to get to the check in desk received our cards and off to the ship. We had a balcony 14 deck near the front of the ship, same type size room we had when we did Alaskan cruise Two years earlier. Plenty of room for two and our four bags . One thing to know if you never cruised before we bring a heavy 6 foot extension cord with multiple plug ins. The bed was great room clean and our room Stewart was very good always seemed to know when we would leave room always kept clean . There are two dining rooms we ate Da Vinci, and Michelangelo. We ate breakfast almost every day at Da Vinci. . And Dinner at Michelangelo had the best Materdi Carlos the magnificent And our lovely waiter Franco from Mexico. We had anytime dinning but our table was always saved for us we started with just my wife and I and as we made friends we had a table for 6.the food was good some excellent some ok mostly very very good. Franco always new what we’re drinking and never waited long to receive them. I would not recommend the buffet much. We ate there two times . Excursion We did two from the ship. We did Pompeii from Salerno all I can say was the tour guide from the princess ship was horrible he made up stuff and not one time did he take us to a shady area when it was near 100 degrees. My suggestion make all your excursions before you leave home online with reputable companies. We did a excursion in Kotor Montenegro was booked before we left home. We did this from a group of 6 Aussies we met from roll call. We did a speedboat. Blue cave , submarine caves tour with swimming at the blue caves,a very fun 3 hour tour, we then did The Godfather tour booked from princess , this was a very fun day. Great tour guide if your a fan of The Godfather movies you will enjoy this. Our next paid excursion was also not from princess with family we met from roll call. We did Pompeii again from Naples. This was a fantastic tour our guide his name was Sasha was so knowledgeable his father was also a tour guide I told him what the tour guide from the princess ship told us and he said what load of garbage i showed him the pictures I took from the first tour and what the guide told us about that. He was blown away with the crap the first guide told us. Every time there was shade he took us to the shady spots and explained what was the real history, all ”other ports we did either the hop on bus or just walked the towns. We had some of the best food on land ever.seafood was more then fantastic. One thing if your going to book your excursion from princess do it before you get on the ship most of the good excursions sold out very fast. I do recommend using non princess excursion. We made a lot of new friends in this ship. After dinner we would go to crooners bar see the piano player. We did trivia one night. And we watched a few movies on the deck with greasy popcorn. If you drink much including alcohol coffee and water get the drink package we got ours free with our balcony booking so it was worth it. Drinks are not cheap if you buy your own . Bottle water $2.50. Latte $2.50 each . We had a later time to get off the ship in Barcelona our transportation was supposed to pick us up at 10 but after 3 phone calls they finally got there by11.00 there is no place to sit and almost no shade at the Barcelona terminal. Then they took us to the wrong hotel , this was not booked through princess . One thing I would recommend transfers book from princess. If you smoke they have a cigar smoke room or you can smoke on the 16 th deck ... Feel free to ask my anything you would like to know. Read Less

We are a family of 6 - 3 generations consisting of 80 year olds x 2, late 40’s x2 and 2 children 8 and 12. The booking experience was not great with the dining time being changed from 6.30pm to 5.00pm without our knowledge and the on board packages being altered on the day we were booking them. However, we were determined to enjoy the holiday and we did. The ship in our opinion is very good, with majority of the staff being friendly. We did find the muster station drill a little bit cringeworthy and reminded us very much of Disney, and not in a good way. The food in traditional dining was okay, but if it was not for the staff, we would say the experience was not great. The buffet during the day we found to be good, clean and efficient. The cabins were kept very clean and we liked the fact we could have the balcony dividers open allowing for an open area for our family, which worked very well. My father was 80 during the cruise and we booked to go to the Steakhouse. Big mistake - wines were out of stock, poor service and food, and the whole atmosphere was not what we expected. Diners were there at 930pm wearing pool attire and sun hats, whilst we had dressed formally. Entertainment was good, pool areas were good, bar service was good. We had prebooked the soda package but not convinced we were not always charged for soft drinks as they do not give you receipts. The demo with the chef and maitre d’ was very good and funny. The tender at Kotor was a shambles with us having to wait for over an hour to get off. Had we known the length of time, we would have arrived earlier. On the return, they had run out of drinks and cloths despite standing out on quayside in the heat and they knew how many people were still not on board - they seemed ill prepared. On the morning of disembarkation, why are most lifts not working? They all were reserved which is crazy when you have elderly relatives. We did not do any ship excursions as learnt our lesson on previous occasions - always book your own! Our cabins were right by the laundry - noise was not an issue at all. Perfectly happy with cabins. We all enjoyed the cruise itinerary and particular pleasures were Pompeii, Mykonos, Chania and Athens. A good, family holiday and felt safe and happy at all times. Would I go with Princess again - possibly but not overwhelmed and would think twice. Read Less

The port was a busy mess but after reading some reviews prior to travel, we were prepared for that and tried to keep calm and safe throughout the process. The cabin itself was like a nice hotel room and we really enjoyed that sea view. Some of the fellow travelers were saying the staff was not good enough but me and my husband did not find any fault on them during the whole cruise. Dining was nice, we tried nearly all the restaurants and coffee shops except for the pizza place as while traveling long distance, eating junk is just not what you would like to do. Our favorite was Da Vinci dining room. The key for the breakfast was to wake up early and enjoy the first meal of the day in peace. To my taste, I would love the entertainment on board to be a little more interactive. Most of things to do on the cruise ship are related to food and beverage or otherwise, pay a big stack of money to visit gym or spa. The concert entertainers were nice but while cruising for 2 weeks you will notice that they are repeating themselves. In the most of ports, we were taking hop on hop off buses to cover maximum ground in a short time. The Canary Islands was the highlight of the cruise for us. You do not need any tours there, just walk around and enjoy the atmosphere. You will love it. All in all it was a pleasant experience and I would not mind to take this cruise again but perhaps for shorter time. Read Less

Cabin: Our steward had 19 cabins in his responsibility, by himself without any assistant, so the cleanliness of our cabin (R725 – Deck 14) was pretty much elementary. The toilet disinfection was completely doubtful and toiletries items did not exist at all. Twice that the cabin key didn’t work, we locked out and we’re waiting a qualified person, who simply told us that the lock deregulated. It is worth mentioning that while we’ve been waiting, other passengers who were passing by, kept smiling saying “you are not the only one…” A morning that the safe didn’t open, we called the reception desk (06:55 am) and the girl in service, told us that a qualified person will come “right away”. After waiting 20-25 minutes, we called back (07:20 am) and they said again “right away”. About 10 minutes later a qualified person came and began to knock the door of the safe (hello, is anybody in?) but nobody answered! He said us that neither anybody from the reception desk, told him that the safe didn’t open, nor he thought to bring a key just to open it. So he left, came back with a key, open the safe, find out low batteries and left again to bring new ones. When at last we could go out, it was almost 08:00 am, so we hardly catch the next train to Florence, instead of the 1st, lucky not book a specific excursion with Princess. Excursions: There were 2 shuttle overpriced services from ship berth either to Livorno / Piazza Grande (5 Euros/ pp round trip), or to Livorno train station (12 Euros/ pp round trip), operated from Princess Cruises and “ALOSCHI BROS Tour Operators” jointly, contrary to what stated on the Princess newspaper (Wed. 9 & Mon. 14 September 2015). This demonstrated with the stateroom charge that Princess company did and also with a Princess sign / tag on the tour guides shirt. Very good, helpful and polite service (bald with vision glasses gentleman) on behalf of “ALOSCHI BROS Tour Operators”, at Livorno 9/9/2015. Bad service on behalf of “ALOSCHI BROS Tour Operators”, at Livorno 9/14/2015 (impolite, insolent and arrogant 2 young girls). About 25 minutes delay (08:40 am, instead of written 08:15 am), in order to “fish” passengers / customers and not lose tickets for the last 4-5 empty bus seats, as a result not catch the 09:10 am train. Entertainment: Sparing, poorly, recurrent, with lack of imagination shows (dignified presence and decent efforts from Princess singers and dancers). Especially comic and mentalist were absolutely a big joke. Food: Poor quality with lack of aftertaste and with disrespect to passengers, limited quantity. Cheeses, sausages and generally the food breakfast was served again for lunch “in a different way”, after it had cut in pieces. In Da Vinci restaurant was served “spaghetti alle vongole” without any vongole, or spaghetti with uncooked, unfired heavy fresh cream. Also the girl in the entrance, was trying somehow to “avoid” us, because seems such a difficult asking a table for two. -They tried to recharge gratuities, although we had already prepaid them to the agent -Generally very helpful and kind but “unhappy”, saturnine, glum staff in all ship jobs. We traveled as a group of 8 to celebrate two milestone bdays of our parnets. What a terrible experience all around -- i'll go piece by piece but i would not recommend this trip to my worst enemy. Food -- absolute joke. Horizons court makes ponderosa look like a 5-star restaurants the food is tasteless and the ingredients are cheap. Soups are poured from heated plastic bags which look like they were rejected by costco. Their 'famous pizza' reminds me of a middle school cafeteria. The main ding rooms served terrible food with terrible ingredients. Princess cuts corners at every turn. The food simply inedible. Menus include a shrimp cocktail which took the word to shrimp to heart --- as in so tiny it required a magnifying glass. Fettucini alfredo --- kroger pasta with melted velveeta cheese - was a recommended dish. Beef is exclusively grade d and clearly princess has the same supplier as taco bell. What is truly said is we ate at both sabatinis and crowne grill -- the 'paid restaurants' and they were actually very good --- so clearly they know how to make good food -- and are just sticking it to passsengers at every other meal. The grill was heating frozen burgers and hot dogs. Gross. Service - unattentive, uncaring. Forget going the extra mile, these guys won't even go an extra step. Asking 'passenger services' to book a dinner reservation for us as we were going to be on an excursion the whole day was met with a --- please call this number and if they're not picking up thats not my problem. When they ran out of something at a restaurant, it was tough luck we've run out. Just a whatever experience. Entertainment -- i went in with low expectations and with the exception of one piano bar -- entertainment was lackluster. Decor - this ship looks like it hasn't been updated since the 1980s -- and even then it looks like they hired the worlds worst decorator. Cheesy does not begin to describe this --- just a horrible environment. Value --- the ship shold be called nickel and dime --- what a joke -- i mena just charge more for the cruise --- you sit down for your first meal or first show and its a sell sell sell -- buy this drink special, this coffee special. The art on board is true wal mart art -- and they are taking unreputed prints and tricking unknowing passengers into buying true garbage work. I honestly think this should be regulated --- as someone who invests in art -- i was appaled that these selling practices are legal or are endorsed by princess. Pictures -- total joke and pushy pushy pushy. When you got off a port in italy they had staff dressed up in aprons, with fake mustaches, holding empty boxes of pizza --- ahh im not that sensitive nor am i italian --- but that is incredibly racist/offensive no? Will never take a princess cruise again and will make it a personal mission to make sure everyone i know avoids this terrible company and experience. Learn from my mistakes and vacation elsewhere. We have sailed on the Emerald Princess several times. So this review will not give you ship details per say. The Emerald Princess is a neat, tidy ship with good venues, satisfactory food and happy staff and service personnel. What I would like to address is more the cruise itinerary itself. After several Caribbean, Mexico, and Panama cruises I can tell you that this one is definitely more 'work' if you will. There is only one scheduled sea day so not a lot of leisure time if you are out enjoying the ports each day. We arrived in Rome with a day and a half to enjoy the city before taking the ship's transfer from a near by hotel. We stayed just west of the Piazza del Popolo at 21 Hotel. It was a modern hotel near the Metro station with several good restaurants near by. Attentive, English speaking staff and breakfast was included. Rome was fabulous. On our one full day we took the Metro from our neighborhood to the Colosseum and explored that part of the city. We slowly ambled from there past the Pantheon, Piazza Navona, Campo de'Fiori up to the Spanish Steps, Trevi Fountain (which is under construction) and back to our hotel. Great day and we definitely earned our pasta that night. The next day we had to be at the transfer point at noon. It was an easy cab ride that took us past the Vatican where we could see the long lines that made us grateful we didn't try and get in the day before. The ride from the transfer point to the ship took about an hour and a half. Embarkation was well timed by Princess. Half of the passengers were already on board as we came in on the second week of a two week cruise. Being Captain's Circle members, we were invited to a free appetizer get together each night in Club Fusion. The servers there always greeted us by name when we arrived. We arrived in Palermo on a Sunday which meant several things were closed. After a day in the big city the day before, we decided to go to the beach. Mondello beach was a short bus ride away and an easy walk from the port to the bus station. However, the bus was packed with other beach goers and the bus stopped every two blocks. When we arrived, we purchased a day pass for two chairs and an umbrella in a private beach club. The public beach was much further down the way and I read that there were hawkers selling all kinds of things that we didn't want to be bothered with. So it was worth $20 Euros for us. Check out Mondellomare.it website for information. We did find out that if you go across the street from the beach, there are several take away restaurants and the beer is much cheaper! After the bus experience we decided to take a cab back to the ship which was much nicer and our driver spoke English well enough to give us some local color. The main street from the port into town wasn't very attractive, but there was a good restaurant for gelato and espresso and a few stores with olive oil gift packages. This was one of the few ports on the cruise that you could walk off the boat and be in the city. The next day was Salerno. Princess had to shuttle people from the boat through the industrial port and into town on buses. You cannot just walk off the boat. We decided to take a cruise of the Amalfi by boat with Blu Mediteraneo from the marina where the Princess shuttle drops us off. Check out http://blumediterraneosas.com for more information or check them out on Trip Advisor. This was the highlight of our trip! If you can see the Amalfi Coast by water- absolutely do it! No curving roads with irate Italian drivers this way. You get to swim in the Mediterranean, cruise by Sophia Loren's home while sipping prosecco and visit the picturesque towns of Amalfi and Positano. Not to be missed! The next day was a much anticipated day of rest at sea. After Rome, Palermo and the Amalfi Coast, we enjoyed sleeping in and a day of sun on deck. For Florence/Pisa, we took the cruise ship's transportation excursion that was 'self guided'. We did have a group guide who talked as we drove first to Pisa (30 minutes) and then on to Florence (hour and a half). Were were in Pisa for an hour which gave us enough time to take pictures of each other pushing the tower back upright, buy a few souvenirs and have a morning cappuccino. Be sure to Bing/Google how to order Italian coffee before you go. The woman next to me ordered a 'latte' and was confused when she only got a glass of steamed milk! The ride to Florence was beautiful with fields of sunflowers (past their prime but still picturesque) and Tuscan villages tucked in the hillsides. Florence was incredible. The Duomo is truly a work of art and not to be missed. There is also a Perfumery that has been in business since 1612 that was incredible. It's a bit of a walk to get to, but there are stores and history galore on the way. While Florence was a bit of a schlep to get to (hour and a half from port), it was well worth the visit. And we napped on the bus ride back to Livorno. Again, this port is in a industrial area and you can't just get off the ship and walk. In Genoa, we walked from the ship to the Genoa Principle train station a few blocks away and purchased train tickets to Vernazza for about $7 Euros each. The train ride took about an hour and a half with lots of stops. But once we got to Vernazza we were in the heart of the Cinque Terre with postcard perfect vistas of cliff side houses, restaurants and old ruins of long ago fortresses. It's a short walk to the port where we grabbed a water taxi to Monterosso after exploring the small town. In Monterosso we had a fabulous lunch of fresh mussels, lemon marinated local sardines and incredibly cold local white wine. The restaurant Pae Veciu was new and the owners and staff were very friendly. After exploring Monterosso, we took the train back to Genoa and the ship. In Toulon, we took the ship's excursion to San Tropez. Our guide on the bus gave us lots of information on the region as we drove the hour and a half to San Tropez. There wasn't much of a highway, so it was a lot of stopping and starting in small resort villages along the way. The town of San Tropez is quaint which seems juxtaposed to the huge yachts in the harbor. Our guide said that morage is $1000 Euros a day. After a quick walk around, we took a cab over to the famed beach at San Tropez. Nice beach but pricey for the small amount of time we had. We did enjoy a nice bottle of Rose from Provance from our rented beach seats and umbrella. Barcelona was probably our favorite of the big cities we visited. We disembarked easily and caught a cab to our hotel the Hotel Jazz which is at the top of Las Ramblas. They were nice enough to accept our luggage while we explored the city. Be sure to see the Market on Las Ramblas! There are food stalls and jamon vendors everywhere! But unfortunately you cannot bring jamon or cheese back to the US. Enjoy it in Barcelona as much as you can. Highlights in Barcelona were the Sagrada Familia, lots of tapas restaurants and definitely the market on Las Ramblas. This trip really gave us a chance to see several Italian, French and Spanish cities at one time. It was not the relaxing, sit-back-and-have-a-cocktail trip other destination offer. It was a trip filled with history, beauty and adventure. Read Less

We enjoyed our cruise. The staff couldn't have been more helpful, the food was tasty and varied, the cabin comfortable and the tours informative. We didn't use the cabin entertainment system as we found it too hard to follow if trying to find a movie. There was hand gel at the restaurants but much more is needed. On the Sapphire Princess there was gel sites everywhere but not on Emerald Princess, especially surprising that there was none at the casino. Also the most basic cafés can supply free wifi but the charges to use it on board were exorbitant so we did not use it. However our worst experience was to come. We bought a quantity of jewellery from the jewellery store, which would have taken the credit card we registered well over the limit. So we used a different credit card during the cruise to pay for it. For some reason even though it is one account, it divides into an account for each user and one of the accounts was now put well into credit. How this worked is anyone's guess so we went back and queued again at the "Help" desk to have this taken from the total. When we left the cruise and had my credit card rejected we checked the account online and Princess had several holds on the account, taking it well over the limit. So, losing the money we'd paid for city tours we took a taxi back to the ship to get it rectified. It was here that we found Princess cares nothing for you once you disembark. Being stranded in Athens with Princess holding all of our funds meant nothing and they weren't paying our costs to sort out that they should have removed the hold on the account when the other card paid it. They assured us they would contact our bank but the hold was only removed after we contacted the Australian office. Their "system" has cost us a lot of money which Princess has no intention of compensating us for. So here are our tips: Don't buy anything on board from any of the shops. Don't expect any loyalty from Princess after you step off the ship. Read Less

Like many cruisers before me, I must report that the Emerald Princess Cruise Ship is the poster child of mediocrity and the definition of average. The food is bland and this is the first cruise that I have walked away from unable to talk about my favorite "dish". The dining room service is terrible....I hope you like drinking a very small glass of water with your meal, as the wait staff is not coming back. The ship is nice enough and our balcony cabin (Baja 319) was clean and comfortable, with the exception of the nasty looking throw pillows and foot of the bed decretive throw. I had these items removed from our cabin on the first night. The just looked funky and unkept. The onboard entertainment was not. The comic was terrible. It was as if he had never written a joke and merely recited every joke he has ever heard since grade school. The worst part of the cruise was the staff. It was as if pink-slips had been passed out the day of departure because it seemed as if every staff member was angry and they certainly did not do anything remotely close to proper customer service. It seemed that overtime I walked by the customer service staff I saw some crew member telling a fellow cruiser something like, "We've already got your money, why are you wasting your time talking to me." I cannot and will not recommend Princess Cruises. Read Less
