I selected this cruise because it combined Patagonia and Antarctica, and because Lindblad Expedition ships are renowned for the level of knowledge and education that they bring on board. Also, the ship had only about 140 guests, any more would not make much sense for a trip to Antarctica, since only 100 people may land on shore at the same time there. Finally, the ship has currently one of the ...
I wanted to visit Patagonia and my husband wanted to go to Antartica--this trip gave us the best of both. We left Santiago on Nov 17 on a chartered flight to Punta Arenas. We spent 5 days in Patagonia, then crossed the dreaded Drakes passage without incident (medium seas). We hiked Torres del Paine and were so lucky that the sun came out shortly before we started our hikes--most of us ended ...
I chose this expedition because it focused on locations immediately in and around Antarctica. Quark's "Fly the Drake" expedition departs from Punta Arenas, Chile - not by ship, but by a chartered 2.5-hour flight that arrives on a gravel airstrip on King George Island. This approach bypasses the Drake Passage and its potentially turbulent waters. Quark's expedition includes one night before ...
Just an awesome experience. The whole ship management was excellent. Cabin was cleaned at least 3 times a day. Food was very good. Service was unremarkable. Noticed and experienced they serve food what ever you want even if it is not in the menu. Indian, Filipino, Chinese you name it they will cook and serve fresh for you. The team members of Quark Expedition were very knowledgeable. Kristene, ...
My wife and I just did the Fly the Drake Antarctica expedition. Everything about the experience was perfect, from the leader Abby to the server Royvahn and all the expedition team and crew. It is an incredible task to coordinate logistics in such a remote part of the world. We were left wanting for nothing. It was a once in a lifetime experience perfectly executed at all levels. These are top ...
We took the 'Fly the Drake' expedition, flying from Punta Arenas to King George Island. The flight was on Antarctica Airways, a 4-engine jet that landed on a gravel runway. The flight both ways was smooth. On board food were prepared sandwiches and other snacks. Very filling but - you should refrain from filling up since lunch will be available once you board the Ocean Adventurer.
The initial ...
After traveling to Punta Arenas Chile, many COVID 19 checks ,charter air flight from Santiago Chile,we embarked.Sailed part of Straight of Magellan,to arrive at a beautiful glacier doing our first zodiac cruise!Next day a landing at The Horn ,pretty rough and foggy ,165 steps to top of the stairs. After The Horn, four days at sea to South Georgia Islands, seas two to seven meters.
South Georgia ...
I chose Silversea because they had a cruise that would have me in Antarctica for my birthday. Due to COVID, my 2021 cruise was canceled. I understand- COVID. Since my cruise and plane tickets were already paid for, I thought it easier to just rebook for the following year. I had no problem switching the dates of my flight to Argentina and Silversea still had a sailing that would have me in ...
This report includes information on our February 15—March 12, 2022, “Ross Sea” expedition cruise on the Le Commandant Charcot with Ponant. Although we had taken a “drive by” cruise of the Antarctic Peninsula in 2007 on the Golden Princess and explored “Beyond the Polar Circle” in 2020 on the Le Soléal with Ponant, this expedition offered the opportunity to experience much more of the Antarctic ...
As a first time cruiser, I chose Silversea for it's supposed commitment to customer care and luxury service. Unfortunately, the complete bungled mess I experienced impells me to warn others about Silversea's complete disregard for the safety and satisfaction of customers in the time of Covid under Royal Caribbean's management. I should preface by saying I'm really not that picky, and can overlook ...
