I chose Silversea because they had a cruise that would have me in Antarctica for my birthday. Due to COVID, my 2021 cruise was canceled. I understand- COVID. Since my cruise and plane tickets were already paid for, I thought it easier to just rebook for the following year. I had no problem switching the dates of my flight to Argentina and Silversea still had a sailing that would have me in Antarctica for my birthday.
A few weeks later, I received an itinerary that would not have me in Antarctica for my birthday. When I tried to communicate with my Silversea consultant, I was always given the run around. So much so, that I asked him to only communicate with me via email. I would email him and would get the standard "let me look into it". Then, I'd never hear back. I'd send follow up emails, eventually get an "I'm so sorry, let me check with my manager", and then no response. I called Silversea to ask for a different consultant. I was assured that there had to be some kind of misunderstanding and that Ray was a "great guy".
A few months later. I received an email from Silversea changing my embarkation port from Argentina to Chile! I checked with my airline to see about switching destinations. A change in date was no charge. However, a change in destination would be almost twice what I paid for my original ticket. I even checked to see how much a flight from Buenos Aires to Santiago would be which was a much better deal. I reached out to Silversea to ask who would cover the difference in price. No response. I called. Given the runaround. Email again no response. Because I'd already sunk close to $15,000 in this trip I ended paying the extra $1000 for the extra flight.
