we had booked this cruise in advance, but hurricane Matthew changed the route, which was fantastic for us. We were supposed to go Nassau and Grand Bahamas', I wasn't to excited about that since I have been there. Instead we went to Key West and Cozumel, both great destinations. The ship is really cozy and comfortable, the staff are incredibly nice and attentive and the entertainment was great. Drinks are included on this ship, and they offer some higher end brands for free which is not common on any of the other four cruise lines I have traveled. I didn't see a lot of children, mainly people ranging from late 20's to mid 50's. The specialty dining places are very good, I felt the food included in the fare was a little subpar, definitely recommend specialty dining, we paid 60.00 per person for three specialty dining nights, I recommend eating at the steak house on your last night. I am booking this ship again- and Miami is very easy embarkation. Read Less

We booked this cruise to celebrate a friend's 60th birthday. Having been on this ship just 2 years ago helped to make this a good choice, especially since they now include alcoholic beverages in the price. Prices have gone up about $100/pp since last cruise, but that one did not include liquor and resulted in a much higher overall cost. Our cruise was booked as a Bahamas cruise but, due to hurricane Matthew, turned into a Key West and Cozumel, MX cruise instead. A much nicer itinerary to be sure! Food overall has not improved since 2 years ago and is definitely the low point of this ship. One interesting feature was a pool-side bar-b-que daily at lunch which helped keep the small cafeteria area a little less crowded. Even though drinks were included there was no waiting on long lines to get one. A little cash tipping is appreciated. Staff members are probably the friendliest I have encountered in over 45 cruises on various different lines. Read Less

This was a last-minute cruise for us. Suddenly it was October and our long discussed trip to the Bahamas was never accomplished but suddenly fit our availability. The convincing factors were the reasonable price for an inside cabin and the Freestyle cruising - drinks included. The deck 10 cabin was cramped but not a problem for a 4 nighter. We spent most of our idle time at the beautiful Topsiders Bar on deck 11. We happened to pick the same week that Hirricane Matthew was passing thru so our ship was diverted away from the Bahamas. Instead we enjoyed beautiful weather in Key West, on day 1 then an equally gorgeous day 2 in Cozumel. Matthew was traveling north along the Florida east coast during our return from Cozumel and the captain kept us in calm seas following 200 miles behind the storm. We returned to Miami on time, but the port was still closed due to the storm. The port reopened late morning, and we were the second ship to dock. Deboarding was smooth and efficient as was immigration. This was our first time with Norwegian, and we were very impressed with the staff, food and beverage services. The maintenance of the ship was the best I've seen compared to vessels in other fleets. We will return to Norwegian! Read Less

We traveled on the Norwegian Sky earlier this month. This is our second time on this ship. The ship itself is a little dated but there are plenty of amenities and with the all inclusive aspect it's hard not to stay entertained. This time we chose an inside cabin room. The room itself is small as you would expect but we didn't spend much time in the cabin anyway. The crew was always very friendly and helpful any time we had questions. We had the unlimited internet package for the cruise. My wife and I must work at times so it was necessary. Our first sailing the internet was smoother but this time we had a difficult time. We even accessed the internet usually after 11 PM. It was very slow and every few minutes it would completely die for a few minutes. We were okay with it being slow but the lack of consistency was frustrating. And for that reason only I'm deducting a star for the cruise rating. This cruise is normally a Bahamas cruise. We happened to be sailing to the Bahamas while the eye of Hurricane Mathew, as a category 4, was tragically pummeling the Bahamas. Instead we sailed to Key West, Florida and Cozumel, Mexico. To our surprise, we had smooth water and great weather nearly the entire cruise. It was only the very last night on our way back to Miami that we had rocky seas. Overall, we were once again satisfied with Norwegian. The crew was great, the food was great, the drinks were great, and the new stops were fun. Read Less

My wife and I have complete around 15 different cruises. This was our first with NCL. The weather ruined our cruise, but that is one of the uncontrollable aspects of cruising. However, what also spoilt our cruise was the dreadful food, service at the various bars and the general feeling of disorganization throughout the ship. The food at the freestyle restaurants was the worst we have ever tasted, and that applied to each visit. You should fire the head chef and send him/her back to Burger King! The number one worst dinner was for something called Turkey Scallopini. There was no taste. None! Even the turkey had no taste! The bar staff were inpolite, and paid no attention as to who was next in line, which led to some discontent with the passengers. The drinks supplied were inconsistent and not to a standard expected on a cruise ship. Our cruise cost us approximately 50% more than all other three day cruises, and was not even close to value for money. Read Less

We love the idea of cruises. However, This NCL cruise was horrid. They changed our ports last minute, so just about EVERYONE on board had to change/cancel their excursions through the 2 phone lines NCL has available to the public. They wouldn't comp. any computer charges for people who needed to connect in that method. They told us ports changed at 7:30 & many excursions started @ 8am. Do NOT count on being at a dock by a certain time in the morning. Do NOT count on doing anything they say. They decided the swells were too high so we stayed at SEA instead of going to one of our ports. (YES! SERIOUSLY!) No refunds.Stores ON BOARD were still closed all day, they didn't change anything on board to accommodate the 2,200 people who were now stuck on board. The mood on the ship went from okay to 'horrible.' I'll never do this cruise again & never EVER do NCL. There are simply not enough activities on board for someone who is staying on board OR if you're 'stuck' on board by the captain's choice. It's over-priced because you're stuck. Drinks are about $10 each. Room service is a $5.00 fee. Between the 2 of us we EASILY spent an extra $1,000 on board just to be comfortable that week & not 'suffer.' (I.e. buying pop & drinks.) Yes, really. They'll charge you $2.75 for an 8oz cup filled with ice & some pop. It's not worth it AT ALL. Read Less

Norwegian Sky This was my fifth NCL cruise. This was the three-day cruise that stops at the private island and Nassau. We took this cruise just as a quick getaway and had no shore plans. I normally would not go in July (too hot for me) but this was just a quick break. I did go ashore in Nassau just to take pictures, as picture taking is a part of my cruises. The only problem with a short cruise is that every day is a port day and the ship essentially shuts down during the day (restaurants are open but very little daytime activities). This cruise is great for people who enjoy all the ports have to offer. Most people I saw who spent the day at various activities really had a good time. I spent most of the time on the ship and activities got a little sparse (for me). The food on the ship was very good and the main dining rooms had fast and courteous service. I always find the staff on NCL ships to be top notch and this ship was no exception. My fillet in Le Bistro was a fine piece of meat but was unfortunately overcooked (medium was well done). My brother in laws was overcooked as well so you may want to order yours one notch back if you eat there. Entertainment was good and the comedian was a delight. The evening activities were always fun as usual. My room was the smallest I have ever seen on a ship (0128) but had everything I needed. The room was well kept at all times. This is an older ship but it was in very nice shape in my opinion (clean, neat). My final comment is about the staff. I see reviews of rude and non-professional staff for all NCL ships. I have never seen more dedicated and professional people than on my NCL cruises and this staff was exactly that. The bartenders remember your name instantly and the wait staff is always around when desired but not pushy in any way. Most floor staff remember the little things that make you feel special. I cannot stress highly enough how well my family and I are treated by NCL crews. The three of us cannot praise the staff highly enough. Looking forward to the next NCL cruise. Read Less

This was our first cruise so we tried to do it right and booked it through the cruise line agent. We told him we were usually in bed by 11:30 and were not party goers. We'd like a mid-ship berth and semi quiet. We opted for the bigger porthole and we thought we'd found the right mix. The agent called a few days prior to our flight from Texas to Florida asking if we'd like an upgrade to a larger porthole room? Well Sure! Who doesn't like an upgrade and he knew what we were preferring. We had been booked into room EE 8033 but were upgraded to room C/D 0263. We got all the paperwork redone and were on our way. The check-in went smoothly and everything was going great. We got underway and there was a BBQ party on the swim deck. It was loud! And loud was the theme for the rest of the cruise. When the Reggae group wasn't playing they had the canned music so loud it was nearly impossible to talk and be heard. We roamed around and finally decided we'd check out our stateroom and see if our luggage had been delivered. The room was clean and we were impressed with the view from the larger window. Being a seasoned traveler and an old guy I like to check and make sure stuff works properly so there are fewer surprises later. The pan of the shower had been repaired and it was very unsightly. After an hour of stewing I called the desk and told them my unfavorable concern. They sent housekeeping with a bucket and cleaners to "fix" the problem. The steward tried but of course the problem wasn't dirty but repair. I called the booking agent, got his voice mail and told him he upgraded us to a substandard room. Didn't receive a response from him the entire cruise. I called the desk again and they told me they were fully booked and had nowhere to place us. I told them it sounded like the standard ploy. Being frustrated we headed to the buffet on level 11. We had a fair meal but the place was swarming with bus boys and other travelers vying for tables. We played some slots after signing up for 3 tournaments and then wandered around finding new surroundings. At the required time we mustered with the rest of the ship for our emergency speech. Don't be on time for this event because you will be waiting for the very last straggler to arrive. Poor planning and poor presentation was evident from the start of this deal. After our late snack we hit the room again. The room was in the queen bed configuration but the wall hanging bunks made getting into bed more difficult. We decided if the twin bed arrangement was used there would be more floor space available. The real estate folks say "Location Location Location" and that holds true for staterooms. Our upgraded room 0263 was directly beneath the Outdoor Cafe. The Outdoor Cafe has a wood slat floor that transmits sound very well. The chair movement was sent through the steel hull very clearly........until 5 am. You may say I'm bitchy but clearly this is not an upgrade. It was loud and non-stop. I called the desk again and complained. They sent another steward that had no option of stopping the noise. Again the desk said there was no place for us to be moved. After breakfast and substantial coffee we decided to suck it up and make the best of it. We would stay up late and drink heavily. But that's a problem. There was no "drink of the day", Pepsi's were $2.50, beer $5, wine $7.50 and mixed drinks were $8. Maybe drugs would have been cheaper. When we got back to the room there was a complimentary bottle of wine and 4 chocolate covered strawberries. Plus a message on the phone. We are being moved and upgraded to a new room. Room 0263 needs repair! Really!? Ya Think!? So we make three trips to the desk on level 5 in the next hour and half but we were moved and now have a balcony stateroom. Room BA/BB 9057. The steward had our bags there before we completed our last trip to the desk. This was a nice room and truly an upgrade. This one had more bottles of booze, water and soft drinks you get charged for. We did enjoy this room very much. We enjoyed Nassau and hired a taxi driver "Gilbert" near the Parliament Square. We agreed on a $25 fee and he took us everywhere. We asked for more and he complied. At the end we gave him $50 for the outstanding service and tour. Beware the gauntlet of drivers and shops at the port after the half mile walk from the ship's pier. We had rough seas and were unable to stay the day at Stirrup Kay. We ate at all the free dining areas. We had breakfast at The Palace Dining room. Very nice and away from the hectic pace of the buffet. Lots of silver, glassware and service. We ate lunch here one day too. We ate dinner at the Crossings and it was not as nice or as good as the Palace. The dining rooms have different hours but there is no dress code. We didn't try the French, Italian or Steak house. Back in the Port of Miami we carried our own luggage and was off the ship before the stated time. It was so smooth and quick we could have made it back to Ft. Lauderdale and flown home the same day. We used SAS Shuttle to return us to Ft. Lauderdale. They were a good deal. Some notes and ideas: I'm 6'1" and 200 pounds with a 36 " waist. The showers on-board are small. I didn't have trouble but a bigger person may. The lighting and A/C were good. There was a sewer smell in the stateroom and I think it may have been the way the toilets operated. They're like RV toilets and don't seem to have a trap for keeping the gases from entering the living area. The whole bath and shower is miniscule but workable. The shower water temperature is everflucuating. The beds are clean and can be arranged as you wish. The bed's firmness is like on the floor with a quilt. Porthole or no porthole? That's a toss up but the balcony room was superb. The guest to staff ratio is almost two to one so there are service people everywhere. They are happy and engaging and helpful. The evening entertainment was so/so. Bingo is a ripoff. We're not looking to do it again. Maybe in Alaska but we'll see. Read Less

Came aboard Mon. at 1:30 after a flight from WA DC and hadnt eaten. Rapid check-in and we went to deck 10 and had a real nice lunch, lots of food and a Calypso Band which was too loud but we arent complaining. Left the dock at exactly 5 PM and headed to Freeport arriving at dawn and a georgeous sunrise. Stayed aboard because it was 25 min to town. Left at 5 PM again for Nassau arriving at dawn. Downtown Nassau is a filthy mess and if they want me back they should scrub the streets which were black, greasy dirt. The Casino was beautiful but the boats taking us over were filthy and over loaded and I got wet.(Nassau filth again) The Casino has the most beautiful aquarium in the world too. Sailed again at 5 pm promptly for Horshoe Cay, NCL owns half of it. Arrived at 7 AM and went ashore for a picnic and snorkeling. That was beautiful but they had hamburgers cooked by a hockeyplayer who thought well done was the only way you can cook one and it had to feel like a hockey puck. My fav. food is a hamburger too but I couldnt eat it. The experience aboard ship was pretty much a 10. Service was excellent, people polite and very helpful, food was good for a family cruise, coffee was excellent although they only serve 1 brand. The cruise director was from England, obnoxious and seemed to be on a good drug as he never shut-up but the shows were good quality and fun. Thanksgiving dinner was understandably, turkey out of a can but better than going hungry, service great. Reccommend it for 1st timers to find out if they like it, not worth it to have a window as you cant see anything at night anyway. Kids welcome and we didnt have any problems with them, well behaved and seperate from adults a lot. GO! Try it out! Read Less

Having travelled on Carnival Sensation on the same route I can really compare the 2. Truthfully there wasn't a lot between them. Food excellent on both, entertainment excellent on both but were NCL has it was with there embarkation and disembarkation, and their staff definitely had the edge. Embarkation went smoothly enough on both cruses, but disembarkation on NCL was a far better experience for a European traveller. On Carnival we had to get up really early on the day we were leaving (way before our American relatives), and queue for an age to get through emigration on the ship, with NCL we were allowed to leave the ship at our own pace, no set time as long as it was before 10pm. Much more pleasant experience. The food on Sky was great. We ate in Crossings 2 nights, buffet 1 night and Cagneys on our last night. No complaints from me about any of the food which was plentiful. On lobster night my nephew had 6 tails, which was no trouble for the waiter We also ate breakfast in Crossings on 2 mornings and buffet on the other 2. On our first morning we had roomservice, coffee, tea and fruit which was wonderful. The 2 for 1 martini's were out of this world and left us feeling that way on at least 3 nights. The bartender Aan deserves a special mention. Ask him for a creamcicle which he made for us (after we gave him the recipe). Enjoy. Our pool waiter Eric also deserves a special mention. The service and his pleasant manner are second to none. The only negative is the size of the stateroom. Very small, but if you separate the beds you get way more room. We had an inside stateroom on Sky and an outside room on Sensation and I don't think there was a lot of difference. This would not put me of NCL but I will have an outside stateroom next time and there will be a next time. All in all, wonderful time. Can't wait for the next one. Early morning call hilarious. Just listen out at approx 8.15am One thing Carnival did better were the shops. I'm a shopaholic so these little things matter to me. Sad I know but each to their own. Read Less
