I chose this cruise due to the commercialization I had seen. It is nothing but a nightmare with small pools that had so many people you couldn’t move in it. In size they must have been maybe 20 x 20 (if that). The buffet was terrible the bacon and the meats were full of fat not drained and climbed down on a large metal tray for you to pick out with prongs. The meatballs they served was soy bean, like rubber balls. Most of the food is eaten barely half and look around all the people are throwing half the food away in the garbage. The Stewart was fair although nothing really significant in his service. The price of this cruise was outrageous, almost $1300 apiece just for a balcony room. I imagine the Cove Haven part of the ship upstairs was much better than the average reservations. ( at least I hope so. ) You had to pay for every little thing, even a bottle of water. You had no choice but to pay the outrageous price for the water and my girlfriend had one drink, a margarita, it cost $15. In sum, for the price I paid I would not recommend this to anyone, maybe half the price I paid I would consider it. Read Less

Very disappointed in the NCL Escape cruise to Bermuda. Smoking is allowed in the casino which located at the center atrium of the ship. Smoke is smelled throughout the ship on ALL levels because of this. Shame on NCL for subjecting us to second hand smoke. Smoking is also allowed at certain outside bars located directly adjacent to the children's water park. Children should not have to smell smoke and be subjected to cancer. The overall service staff was rude and not cordial. A bartender at the H20 bar from India yelled at me for not picking up my mixed drinks on time. The guest services person gave me incorrect information on when the time zone change would occur. The NCL mobile app had incorrect information that we were going to be in Hamilton for three days and not the dockyard. Fire alarm testing at 10 am during the breakfast rush is unacceptable. This should have been tested during the afternoon when most are off the ship on excursions. I was excited to take a tour of the bridge and see behind the scenes areas like the kitchen, laundry and engine room like I did on other cruise lines, however, NCL has the nerve to charge $79 per person for this tour of their ship. This is disgraceful. Not having a pitcher of water or bucket of ice in the room, as well as no chocolate at night or towel bunny is cheap and disgraceful. Charging $7 a bottle for water when I have the all you can drink package up to $15 per drink is also disgraceful. Nickel and diming me for port charges for drinks while at NY should be picked up by NCL. Coffee should be served at the tables at the buffet so I don't have to navigate back to my table with piping hot coffee through hundreds of people walking in all different directions. The food and pastries at the buffet and most of the specialty restaurants was subpar with most pasties tasting like they were mass produced and from frozen cartons. The waiters did not show us the proper attention like other cruise lines where you had dedicated waiters. Maybe because their tip is already included! Many of the waiters or waitresses did not understand English and got our drink orders wrong. There were also few food carvings or any other special food nights. The seafood extravaganza was a joke with only peel your own shrimp. No crab legs or anything. The specialty seafood restaurant waitress said not to order the lobster I was craving because its frozen and many people are said to be returning it due to poor taste. The sushi appetizer at the Cagney Steakhouse caused intestinal distress for a day and half. Many of the entertainment shows were sold out immediately as we boarded the ship. The comedy club size is a joke holding about 75 people with a ship of over 4,000 passengers. This show should have been held in the main theater so more people can watch and not be subjected to standing in the rear against a wall. The bar in the comedy club was also closed during a show preventing many people from ordering drinks. Theater showings should be after 10 pm so it doesn't interfere or conflict with my open seating for dinner which NCL prides themselves on. NCL cruise line was very disappointing. I will be going back to Royal Caribbean cruises where they treat their customers with respect and the food is always good. Read Less

We love Bermuda. Cruising is a nice way to get there and we didn’t need to fly. This ship was insanely overcrowded. 5000 people and 1 tiny pool. 2 days at sea and it was a fiasco on the pool deck. No chairs, no room in the pool. Hot tubs loaded with kids. Every area or event labeled as “adult only” had 100’s of kids. No staff did any corrections. We joined the thermal spa for $450 and we were told that area was monitored for holding onto the heat beds. No such luck. People held them for hours and went missing. No staff removed their towels. Day 1 by 2pm all specialty restaurants and entertainment was booked. Standby for all entertainment. Bars were swamped. Bartenders over extended. Restaurant staff looked beaten. Buffet worst ever. Horrible food. Dining rooms sloooowwww. If you want a pleasant experience all Norwegian does is up-sell. You need to pay for better dining, pay for a pool. It’s a true price gouging from start to finish. Even when you shell out more money, still a bad experience. Glad this wasn’t my first cruise. I’d never do it again. Read Less

Beautiful ship, but WAY overcrowded with rude, loud people and hundreds of uncontrolled children. We expected a quiet aft cabin and got nightclub music from 5 floors up until 1:30 every morning ...and neighbors with dozens of kids running the hallways at all hours. We had a couple of crew who were friendly, but overall, the staff was not very happy at all. The bartenders seemed to be annoyed at your presence. Of course, if I had to deal with this crowd every week, I’d probably hate my life too. The party atmosphere is not policed and seemed to be encouraged by NCL. The passengers, overall, were the trashiest group of people I have seen in over a dozen cruises. Ketchup smeared down our hallway walls.... a fight in the casino.... it seemed as if anything went on this cruise. The first person we complained to basically blamed us for booking on NCL. Eventually, the guest relations manager made a respectable effort to remedy our disappointments and concerns. Internet packages are time limited and will time out if you forget to sign out..... unlike other lines where they are unlimited. The food was the best part. I definitely recommend trying the specialty restaurants, because you can’t move in the Garden cafe during peak meal times. Even the nicer specialty restaurants run amok with horrible parents and brat kids. If you want a nice, quiet, relaxing trip, this ship is probably not for you. If you want a party, go for it! The ship is lovely with plenty of fantastic venues. Read Less

My husband and I booked a cruise for our honeymoon. I wanted to go to Bermuda and I was thrilled to find out we would stay for 3 days. The ship was huge and I think too big and over crowded. We found this out trying to reserve a seat for shows and for the specialty restaurants; all booked for the week and we were on the ship the first night . The pool was always packed and deck chairs never available. The adult pool was tiny for the amount of people and the average size of the people; who were enormous. The hot tubs filled with people who never left. The lines for the water slides and the Rope course am hour minimum. The kid pool was closed down one day because someone defected in it. Too many people and too much garbage and dirty glasses and unbelievable poor manners of these people . Dirty feet on tables and furniture, waking around wet with no pants and shirtless men. This is the “people of Walmart” cruise. Trashy. People passing in public. Disgusting. The 3 restaurants; the Manhattan, the Taste and the Savor were included and the food was garbage . Rubbery chicken, over cooked meat, mashed potatoes that taste like cardboard and everything salty . By day 2 everyone was bloated and packed on like sardines . Every minute the crew tries to upsell you if you do a facial or massage; they try to get you to get the more expensive or to do acupuncture or Botox or an activity is extra for example Deal or no desk $25 for a card, painting is $35 to participate. We booked a massage and the therapist tried to up sell us to do a more expensive massage then told us to buy $179 Epsom salt and a $67 brush . Not relaxing at all because they don’t shut up either to try to get you to give up more money or to insult you . During my facial I was told i should get Botox. I really do mod want some ocean doctor standing botulism into my face ! Bermuda was good but do not buy any excursions on board because it’s $70 more than waking to the island tour center , take the bus for $2.75 not a taxi for $43 or a shared bus for $7.00. The ferry is ok but infested with roaches. Everyone off the ship is trying to separate you from you money as well so be careful . This vacation was absolutely horrible. The filipino crew will give you nightmares with the way the say “ goooood moooorniiing” and the stupid “washy washy”. Never cruising again . Norwegian ruined cruises forever . Read Less

My family and I chose this for our family vacation. It was not what we expected, the entertainment was not culturally diverse or accommodating for all age groups. I spoke with the activities director about my concerns, he was very apologetic. He listened and I believe he spoke to the person in charge of that particular event and we since the change in the activity. The food was not the best, the buffets food was always warm or just cold everyday!! The specialty dining was excellent at every restaurant we ate at!!. All in all the trip was just very disappointing to have your children same their bored, it was very disheartening to hear and see. I would not recommend the escape for a FAMILY VACATION! My family ages are 27,24, & 17! And they just didn’t have enough entertainment across the board to accommodate all different age groups and cultures. Read Less

I've been to so many cruises before embarking in this one. We decided to take this one because of the destination and because our family lives in NY and they wanted to go on this ship... Worst cruise EVER! The ship is giant, but lacks of free activities, no nightclubs no nothing!!! Shoes get overcrowded because of the lack of activities, then you have to make those nig lines to attend any activity you pick, swimming pools are SO OVERCROWDED that people who use them look like SEA LIONS IN SF piers lol. We never got to use the swimming pool due to the overcrowding. Food is horrible, the only thing I wanted to eat was chicken wings since the rest of the food was always the same and average, nothing that you would have said "wow, delicious food" We ate at 2 of the specialty restaurants which I was ecpecting something better... In conclusion, I think we overpaid for this cruise, stateroom service was just okay... showers were not as clean as we expect and bathroom was smelly. Rooms are way too small!!!! At the end, we got trapped at the casinos due to the lack of free activities (which have NEVER happened to me while cruising) they make you buy bingo cards, deal or no deal cards, etc etc. If you are.a gambler this is the right boat for you hahaha. Shopping area is way too small, three or four stores and done. The boat is too dark in colors, nothing fancy like other boats, the only bling bling it has is the shiny decoration by the stairs.... Come on!!! We need BLING BLING!!! We meed good service and something more organized. We pay for it! And to end the story: disembarking was such a mess. Lots of people carrying their luggage from 15th and 14th floor down the stairs due to the lack of elevators. SUCH WASTE OF MONEY! GOING BACK TO MY FAV CRUISE LINE! Read Less

The boat was overcrowded and not enough staff to attend to everyone. Since gratuities were suppose to be paid all upfront they did not have to work hard to get people there food or drinks, I waited 20-30 min for drinks and at dinner took 2hrs. at least. But then once you are on the boat they hit you with a 15$per person per day charge for someone to make up your room. If you want decent food you have to go to the specialty restaurant and pay for it. The adult pool was so small and way overcrowded. They had another adult pool but it had limited spots and fee was 210 per person for the week. The Spa was a nice facility. So one would think that after you pay for an overpriced massage you can use the rest of the amenities there but No that's an extra fee too. So be wary when you think you have an all inclusive they are so many hidden fees. Also the shows sucked, Royal Caribbean is such a better cruise line. Read Less

The quality of the crew, their attentiveness and professionalism was far lacking. It was apparent they did not care to be on the ship. From boarding to disboarding the overall attitude toward passengers made me wish I was not there. The quality of the food was horrendous, soups had no whole ingredients and were clearly powdered. I myself was sick the entire trip! The setup on ship was a detriment to anyone not there with a whole family as they corralled guests into areas such as Skyline for evening parties (an area much too small for all guests) and then closed the only place to get a drink when passengers engaged in fighting due to the cramped conditions. The adult only pools/ hot tubs were nearly never enforced! I never got to enjoy the pool/ hot tub areas due to an excess of children present at all times splashing and screaming. When I put forth the money to get a spa experience in hopes of some kind of relaxation I was shorted the whole service (tip to toe) including a collagen eye treatment I never received even after asking about completing the service. It was nearly impossible to find a quiet space or other singles on the ship. I spent more money on this cruise than my last and am utterly shocked by my experience with Norwegian as a whole. No kind of vacation I would choose for myself again. Read Less

The Specialty Restaurants were excellent. We had dinner at Cagney's, Teppanyaki and La Cucina and the food and service was excellent. Now for the con's -- most rude and nasty staff. They never had a smile on their faces and seemed bothered all the time. The amount of sighs we received was crazy. The food in the buffet is terrible and disgusting. The same everyday. The Manhattan Room (main dining room) the food was cold and horrible. Now for the pool, there was no activities very boring. The cruise director was never seen and he was rude. The Choir of the Man was an excellent show. That was only show that we enjoyed. Never again. No NCL. Read Less

We chose this after cruising with NCL on the Epic. What a terrible choice though. Officers told us the Escape and much of the NCL fleet was built in Germany, Epic was built in France. I will not cruise on any ship built in Germany again if that's the case. The main pool was 6ft8" deep and over 18's only allowed. No use for our 11 year old then. So they called another pool the main pool, it was also salt water, it was 5ft at the shallow end and 5ft8" at the deep end. They were handing out life jackets to children! There were no sunbeds near the pool but kids under 12 needed adult supervision so I spent time standing like a lemon. My son hated the pool and how can kids play when they cant touch the bottom of the pool. We were told the ship had 6 sections and the pools had to be that depth to balance the weight. Never mind comfort. So if you like salt water pools, don't have kids and don't mind being out of your depth its great. They did not tell everyone to use cleanser before going into restaurants, again an officer told us we were not in a high risk area! My wife was ill after eating fish on the ship in one of the speciality restaurants. This meal was on the 1st night, we had eaten the same on the trip over to the ship from the UK to New York and my wife only ate on the ship after that. Bringing up a whole prawn was a giveaway as to the cause. I will say other food was decent. But here is the shocker, there was blood on my sons bedding and plasters in the room. It was a disgrace. I do have photo proof. So did they not wash the bedding from the last guest or give us dirty bedding and not notice, but BLOOD! Activities, thought the shows were really adult entertainment, walked out of one but Choir of Man was exceptional to be fair. These ships don't cater for an 11 year old. Kids club is great as he used it when younger but when 11 he is too old for face painting and the like. However not old enough for teen activities, this isn't a cruise only problem to be fair had this at hotels also. service was good, in fact after we complained we met a number of senior officers and they kept saying they wanted to buy us wine or a meal with no obligation, by then I had made it clear I would complain when off the ship and the compensation of two hundred dollars offered was of no use to me as I wanted a full refund for the fact that the pools were not as advertised, the room layout was not made clear, BLOOD on bedding. I did this 2nd day to make it clear how unhappy I was. Then it became the topic of conversation for the holiday so hardly relaxing. What I can say is it wasn't the officers fault, they really did try, like giving my son a token for a free ice cream made on ship, but the ice cream parlour remained closed for the next 4 days! The slides of the pool were very good, couldn't get me son to do the ropes course. Only got my son on the slides one day, he just didn't want to be near the pool so I ended up playing a lot of pool at O'Sheehans, happy holiday. Lastly I have decided to turn down the eleven hundred dollars now offered to me as the cruise cost over 5 times that. This had to be spent on board within 24 months and no other discounts could apply so it was buy a full price cruise to get some credit on ship that you don't want to go on. No thank you, on principal. Read Less

For a new boat, the Escape had many flaws and was just average. It was ENORMOUS, but not in a good way, in my opinion. Although I have heard good things about Norwegian, my family and I did not love the Escape. First of all, the main adult pool was WAY TOO SMALL for such a big ship. Not sure why they designed such a big boat with such a small pool. And the worst part of it was, it was either 8 feet deep where you had to tread water, or you had to sit on the side, but because the pool was so small, there was never anywhere to sit. Second, because there are 4000 people on this ship, the decks were lined up with endless rows of lounge chairs so tight that it was extremely hard to pass through and we felt like sardines while we layed out. There were no tables whatsoever to put food or drinks down either. Would’ve been nice to see some comfortable lounge seating with tables on the upper deck by the glass. Although lounge seating is available on the eighth floor deck but it is very cool and shaded and is in a designated “quiet area”. The restaurants had good food, but not great like you would expect on a cruise. It was just OK. Water slides and zip lines always had long lines and my kids went on only once. (Personally, I thought they were an eyesore on the boat.) Service overall was friendly. Their show “After Midnight” was the only entertainment I really enjoyed. However, the ship did have a lot of very nice tucked away bars and the drinks were delicious, using top shelf liquor. Overall ship was very clean. Embarkation and disembarkation was extremely smooth considering the amount of people. Read Less

The restaurants had some of the worst food I have ever had and the service was terribly slow. It seemed like they bought the cheapest buffet food online and then tried to feed it to us! Half the buffet was closed almost all of the time and half of the golf course was closed off when we got there! The remote in our room only worked about .3% of the time. I finally was able to rent a movie on the tv and then the TV glitched and deleted it! It was $10.00 for the movie! The woman at the Atrium bar was very rude and made consistently rude comments to us so we complained to customer service and they were unable to assist us. Everything from the pool tables to the regular tables looked run down and old. We turned on the light to have our room made up and towels exchanged and the cleaning woman came in turned off the light and closed the door! She did not clean the room, exchange the towels or even come back! The room service was a joke and took forever to get there. They forgot a part of the same order 3 times and brought it town 2 hours later. We had to keep calling to follow up. The entertainment was lacking and the movies were showed in the Atrium which is located in the center of the ship so you could not hear anything! We were just happy to get off the forsaken nightmare that was that ship. I have cruised with Princess, Royal Carribean and Celebrity and have never had a bad experience on their ships. I have thoroughly enjoyed all of my Norwegian cruises except for my recent one week June cruise (June 2019) roundtrip from New York City to Bermuda. The cruise was aboard the Norwegian Escape. I was shocked by how poorly designed the ship was for over 4000 people and how unfriendly some of the staff was. I have been on large ships (4000+) of two other cruise lines -- Princess and MSC. These ships were comfortable and could easily accommodate all of the passenger. HOWEVER, THE NORWEGIAN ESCAPE WAS FILLED WITH CRAMPED AND UNCOMFORTABLE SPACES AND DID NOT HAVE ENOUGH STAFF TO PROPERLY HANDLE ALL OF THE PASSENGER. The Design of the Escape First of about the cabin. I have never had such a small balcony cabin on any ship that I have ever been on. The cabin was long and narrow -- Not really enough space to easily move around the cabin. There was insufficient storage for clothes so we had to keep some of our things in our suitcases. The bathroom was a comfortable size, but I would have accepted a smaller bathroom to have increased living area. The balcony was the smallest I ever stepped foot on. The lounges and bar areas were extremely small and some were oddly shaped so that patrons could not view the stage entertainment from where they were seated. The pool area was small and the pools were small as well. The whole area was cramped and because of upper decks, we felt like we were surrounded by skyscrapers which blocked most of the sun. The gym area not only was not tiny with insufficient equipment for 4000 guests,, but also did not have showers, saunas, and only had single patron washrooms. I could go on, but I think I have given you a good idea of why we will never go on the Escape or other Breakaway class ships of Norwegian Cruise Lines. The Staff The Guest Services Staff, the Casino Staff, and the Future Cruise Consultants made excuses about problems rather than being helpful. Many times they were very defensive about what had happened. Just one example. The Casino occasionally gave Canadian and Bermudian money in change when casing a ticket for a guest. They have given me 80 cents -- 60 cents Canadian and 10 cents US. When I returned to the Casino cashier, she denied that they had given me the change. Guest Services was no help either. So I returned to the Casino staff and argued my case. Eventually they gave me 70 cents for the Canadian and kept the Bermudian dime. Housekeeping was not responsive to us at all. When we requested that our towels be replaced, they said they would. We contacted them a second time. However, we had to go to Guest Services in person to request towels. We tried to call Guest Services and they never answered the phone for us. Our Cabin steward was lackadaisical. This cruise was the first time that we did not give our cabin steward an extra tip. However, the serving staff in the restaurants and in the buffet were absolutely excellent. The food was very good. Bermuda was great as well. The only positive things about the cruise. Overall, the cruise ship and staff were a disappointment and I will avoid Norwegian's larger ships. Read Less

Though it was a good buy to beautiful Bermuda - but was mistaken -the actual cost was nearly three times the ad price.. .Low quality, not fun and they actually yelled at us customers! Buyer beware - use a travel agent. At departure off the ship at 7:45 am, they had us jammed in the elevator area with our luggage and squished further as more people came out the elevators for more than 20 minutes! They yelled at us as we tried to get out of one another's way in the congestion! Very stress full, uncomfortable and unnecessary for our last impression. My other three cruise you just walk off the ship. The water slides were frequently down for repair and when the were running the water flow was so low you hardly slid at all more like crawling down the slide. The Atrium area was often very congested because of poor design and the lack of space on the ship. The entertainment was often poor . Things were canceled often. Some were just sales tricks to get your money. Choir of Man and After Midnight were very good shows ! The food was fair to poor. Twice I got fishy salmon. Food was often over cooked and dry. They give out very small piece of watermelon infrequently. The deserts are mostly just puddings. Read Less

Wanting to sail from Manhattan, we decided to take the Escape to Bermuda. The experience was a paradigmatic example of how NCL values quantity and income over quality and genuine concern for its passengers. If you love huge crowds, a noise level in the ear splitting decibel ranges, mediocre service, restaurants which resemble an airport food court during weather delays, and complete disregard for customer care, this cruise is for you. I had to argue with bartender about the beverage package, then wait in line for an hour to speak to guest services to have someone correct the bartender's misunderstanding of the program. The spa overcharged me for a massage. When I brought this to their attention, I was told they could not correct the bill. I had to spend hours in many lines trying to correct this. Then they cancelled my onboard account because my credit card had been refused. But it had not - NCL had placed someone else's credit card onto my account. It took days for them to figure this out, while I was denied service at all the bars Spa managers outright lied to me regarding the overcharges. The cabin steward threw out my personal property. Food preparation was disappointing and service uneven. The onboard app for communication never worked. I have sailed on two dozen cruises and this was, without a doubt, the worst I have ever experienced. I contacted Guest Relations after the cruise. They took three months to reply, and refused to take responsibility for their mistakes. I was offered $250 ship board credit on a future cruise. Considering the aggravation, stress, and hours I lost waiting in lines to correct their mistakes, this was nothing short of insulting. and only serves to highlight NCL's complete lack of concern for customer service. I've been on over 13 cruises with Royal Caribbean, Carnival, Celebrity and Princess so far. This is the first time we sailed with Norwegian, but I am sorry to say that this cruise experience was the worst one ever. What a waste of our 10th wedding anniversary trip! Embarkation and disembarkation - the previous ship came back 3 hours late and it delayed the checked in process on us. With no announcement and explanation, the check-in counters were closed suddenly. We were supposed to check in at 11:30am, but we ended up sitting on the floor like refugees with no foods, no water till almost 3:00pm. Some staffs in the cruise terminal were kind of rude to us. For disembarkation, it's ridiculous that we've been asked to have color tags on our luggage, but there is no tag available at customer service desk when we went there. Ship - The ship design is good, but the only theater is way too small. We have pre-booked shows, but we couldn't get in and find seats. The celling of restaurants and rooms are too low, it makes people feel so clouded. There are only two swimming pools on this ship. The kids pool is 1.5-1.7M deep, which is too ridiculous and danger for kids to enjoy the pool. Most of times the water slides and pools are closed for maintenance or some unknown reasons. Cabin - rooms is kind of small compare with Royal Caribbean same type of room. The two pull-down beds are kind of inconvenience for us to get on/off the bed. My husband even hatted his head few time on the bed frames. Also, too much stuffs in the mini fridge and we can't put milk or other stuffs for my son. The shelves inside the closet are not really accessible to put our clothes. TV is too small and so limited channel selections. Same show repeated few times a day. When the closet door is open, half of the TV is covered. Dining - foods quality in buffet and dining restaurants are terrible. most of meats are too hard and dry. There are really less variety everyday. Even pizza are dry. We are normally exciting to have dinner in the dining room, but this time we are so disappointed and even skipped half of the dinners during our trip. The median rare steak tasted almost like beef jerk. Hardly any meals are good in the dining restaurants. The only good one that we had good dinner was in O'Sheehan, with the service from Emmanuel Malinga. He is really good to explain the menu and make sure we enjoyed the foods there. Also, 30% of the cups in the Garden Café are dirty. Some still with foods, lip inks and coffee marks in the cups. Entertainment and activities - Out of 4 water slides, 3 of them are closed for maintenance during our trip. There were no water in kids splash zoon. We were trying to exchange clean towels, and there were no clean towels available for the whole afternoon. Shows on the ship are not attracted at all, so boring and feels like only the host and performers enjoyed themselves well. Halloween trick or treat activity for kids was so unorganized with no clear direction, nor fun at all. Rowen from dining restaurants is the only good entertainer and made us smile all the time when we saw him. Service - lots of waiters and waitresses in Garden Café are not working hard as other cruise lines. They don't clean tables faster enough to let the next group of people to eat. We saw dirty dishes on the tables all over. Part of the celling cables behind our table fell down one night when we were having snacks in Garden Café. Someone finally came to check 10 minutes later. On the way sailing back to New York, the ship was shaky for over 24 hours that made my parents, husband, my son and myself all sick and vomiting in the room till the ship finally arrived in New York. The ship left Bermuda 2 hours late and it was trying to speeding up to make it back to New York. I would say the sailing time management is really bad. Because of the sickness, we wasted two days in the room doing nothing during our trip. Overall, it was a terrible cruise experience for all of us. We even decided to cancel the another trip we've booked with Norwegian next year. I don't think any of our family members, nor myself will choose to sail with Norwegian in the future. Read Less

First, I am not loyal to any cruise line. I just like to try different ship especially the newer one. This is my first with Norwegian. I have heard from friends who has been on this ship that were pretty negative. I refuse to believe them. There is no Perfect cruise. Cruise cannot cater to everyone. There will be good and bad experience on all cruise. But Good should Triumph over Bad. Embarkation - was a nightmare. Terminal was packed as the returning cruise arrived very late. At 11 am, passenger were still disembarking. Many people were lined up for check in. All of a sudden they shut down check in without saying a words. There were no announcement on what was going on, until some passenger started asking question. Since then there were frequent announcement. Due to space and fire hazard, the terminal cannot accommodate more passenger and had some type of coast guard drill. They kept suggesting that passenger should leave the terminal and come back in at 2:30 pm. Many passenger eventually left the terminal. I won't explain in detail since the other reviewer KaKelley was right on. The food was terrible. Not much variety and very dry compare to other cruises line which has many variety. One example: everyday they have one type of baked chicken. It looks similar except they change the name. There were about 3 or 4 days where we had same BBQ chicken. I am sure the chef could come up with a different variety. Music was very loud in the dining room and service is very slow. This was the first of all our cruise where we actually miss dinning room dinner and ate at buffet instead. Entertainment was below par. Majority of the cruise staff here are Filipino. I have nothing against them. They are very good people. Cruise director and his staff is all Filipino. Some of them really need some more coaching. Since they play an important part in entertaining all passenger. Also this was the only cruise where they have some show that have extra charges. Bermuda was very nice. Very easy getting off and on the ship. Internet package is very expensive Norwegian 250 minutes (very slow speed) cost $125. Royal Caribbean 1 day package is about $30 Unlimited Alcohol package on Norwegian is about USD$100 while Royal Caribbean is around USD $70 with more discount promotion. To summarized, our family did not enjoy the cruise. In fact we will be cancelling our next year booking with NCL and would look for other cruise line. It is unfortunate that we fell this way since this was our worst cruise. I hope NCL would seriously look at their food variety and improve on quality. This was also our first cruise where we did not give additional tips. Usually we gave additional tips to some waiter or room attendant. It seems like this NCL has a lot more extra charges than other cruise line and it gets confused on what is included. Please take my review with a grain of salt. I am only expressing my own personal experience. This review is not on behalf of other passenger. We have more fun cruising with Carnival, Royal Caribbean, Princess and Celebrity. We will not be cruising with NCL again. Read Less

Cruise was supposed to go to Bermuda, changed to Bahamas two days before. Impending hurricane so this was understandable but when we boarded the ship my wife's luggage was delivered to the wrong room. I inquired where it was. The staff said it was delivered to my stateroom. It was not. The staff insisted it was and I brought him to my stateroom and asked him where he left it? He said in the room. I said, well it's not here. He then told me that I would have to go to the main lobby and ask them to look for it. I then did just that but still no luggage. After an hour and a half my wife's luggage was finally located in another passengers room and it was delivered to our room. Immediately we noticed that our ship tag had been cut from the bag. I had triple secured it to the luggage, for just this reason that it wouldn't be lost. Someone removed it. Maybe staff, because I asked how they could lose a bag that was clearly marked and so secure. If it was a passenger this seems worse. My wife was upset that a stranger looked inside her luggage where her personal belongings were located. The ship staff sent strawberries and a bottle of wine for the mix up. Then to add insult to injury the trip was changed again after visiting Norwegian's private island. No Nassau Bahamas. We were given a 30 dollar refund for port charges. We never ported at a foreign port. The cruise staff was very rude during the cruise especially in the dining areas. I understand that the passengers were unhappy and were probably not that nice to them but they reciprocated by giving poor service. When I returned home I sent a certified letter to guest relations; no response. I filed a complaint with guest services; no response. I again filed a second complaint citing my letter and my first complaint with its' assigned number. I also called and they said it had to be in writing. Today they responded by saying that these things happen, the weather, the lost luggage, etc. and that we were compensated with strawberries and wine. Have a nice day. I am deeply disappointed in Norwegian. This was my eighth cruise with them and maybe my last. Read Less

Let me start by saying that we knew the risks of planning a cruise during hurricane season, so we weren't really that bothered by our itinerary changing. What followed is the reason for this review. We were sent to Port Canaveral, Great Stirrup Cay, and Nassau. At Port Canaveral, there's not really anything to do besides the space center, which you really need more time for. So we didn't bother getting off the ship. At Great Stirrup Cay, they don't have a dock for a cruise ship, so you have to get carried to shore and back by tender boats. This process is so time consuming that you only get about 4 hours on the island. 2 hours into it, they shut down all the food stands and bars. Then, the captain skipped our last stop (the main attraction) at Nassau. Now, I understand that we had to go out to sea farther to avoid the hurricane on the way home. What pissed me off is that instead of skipping their stupid private island and going to Nassau, we skipped Nassau. I am pretty confident this was done because it saved them money since they own Great Stirrup Cay. They saved on port fees by not going to Nassau. It's clear they don't care about the happiness of their guests. At this point, I would have expected them to offer SOME type of compensation or incentive for another cruise - ANYTHING. Especially when you consider that our new itinerary was exactly the same as one of their normal cruises, which is CHEAPER than the Bermuda cruise we booked. At the very least, a partial reimbursement for the price difference would have been the ethical thing to do. The other cruise lines that had to change course offered all their guests some type of compensation. Not NCL though. Next, let's talk about the actual ship. A member of our group has been on several Norwegian cruises (and will never go on another one after this). The other ships are apparently laid out the same, except the Escape added 2 floors of guest rooms and holds like 2000 more passengers. So there aren't really any more attractions, but there are way more people to fill up those attractions. That was a MAJOR problem during our cruise. Almost every single event/show/etc on the ship requires a reservation. By the 2nd or 3rd day, they were all booked. ALL OF THEM - not an exaggeration. We decided to try the stand-by line for one of the comedy shows. We showed up 45 minutes early and there were already about 70 people in the stand by line (and the comedy club isn't all that big). We didn't even bother. You basically have to plan your entire trip and everything you want to do by the 2nd day. You can't be spontaneous at all. There are 2 tiny pools they are ridiculously crowded at all times. I guess if you're into the frat party lifestyle where you're constantly grinding against other people all day you would really like this. For everyone else, it's miserable. Seriously, if you put both pools together, they would be about the size of a typical inground pool at a normal house in the suburbs. If that wasn't bad enough, they close all the pools and hot tubs around 10pm. Not for maintenance or anything - they just close them. By 11pm, pretty much everything except one restaurant/bar is closed. We are adults looking to stay out late and have fun on vacation, but that is apparently not on the menu with NCL. The one thing I actually enjoyed, the speed slides, were shut down for HOURS every day. The mini golf course has holes/dips under the green that you can't see until you step on them and almost fall, not to mention the frustration of a great putt randomly changing direction or totally stopping. The Bocce Ball court was tapered downhill from the center on both sides, which rendered it all but useless. I realize nobody takes a cruise to play Bocce Ball, but it's just one more thing on the list. They advertise the zip line that swings out over the side of the ship as a big attraction. What they don't tell you is that IT DOESN'T EVER WORK!!! In fact, 50% of the entire ropes course is permanently shut down. An employee told us that it's shut down because they have no way to work on it and maintain it. So this course probably only worked for the first year of the ship's life and will probably never work again. If you're not familiar with NCL ships, they have an Atrium in the center that is open for 3 floors, with the casino surrounding it on the center floor. They allow smoking in the casino. By the 3rd day of the trip, the smoke has traveled throughout the entire atrium - all 3 floors. This is really fantastic when your wife is pregnant and trying to avoid second hand smoke. We got the "ultimate" beverage package, which includes drinks up to $15. What they don't tell you is that they jack up the prices of everything so that the good stuff is just barely too expensive to get. You can get most mixed drinks and pretty much all beers, but if you're into sipping bourbon or scotch, you're only getting the middle shelf stuff. After all that, NCL wouldn't offer us anything at all. Not even 10% off a future cruise. Not even the difference in price for the cruise we got vs the one we paid for. I have been on Carnival cruises and had a much better time. I hear Royal Caribbean is great as well. I can say that I will never go on another NCL cruise in my life. Neither will any of the 25 other people in my group. That's how bad it was. In fact, I never even write negative reviews on anything, but this was so bad I felt like it was my duty to make sure others don't have the same experience. Read Less

I'm poor, so cruising isn't something I get to do, needless to say I was very excited about this early birthday trip to what would likely be my only opportunity to see Bermuda. Bermuda was canceled, while that was a real bummer I still wanted to make lemonade of lemons but unfortunately Norwegian failed to deliver in so many ways. We went to a port in Florida where we got a lovely view of a parking lot, there wasn't enough time there to do anything off the boat. I've been to FL a lot and could've planned a week long vacay there for a tiny fraction of what we paid for this cruise and had much more fun doing it. We went to Norwegian's island Great Stirrup Cay, while it was nice the tender there was extremely crowded, we had to use stairs to get there and my bad knee/hip was feeling that hardcore, the beach was packed, and there was nothing to do there. The entertainment on the ship had to be reserved and once the Bahamas was canceled every last thing filled up. The boat was way too packed to do anything without the ports of call to thin out the herd. As for dining every place was so full we never got to try anything outside of the buffet. The drinks were good but it turns out the beverage package does not include every drink and we were charged extra fees when we got drinks, this wasn't disclosed to us up front. The wifi was absolutely terrible, a two minute task would take ten minutes and trying to logout was incredibly frustrating when it's costing $1/minute. We went to guest services about the wifi issues, they sent us to the internet manager who sent us back to guest services who told us once again it wasn't their problem. We didn't want to keep bouncing back and forth as the lines were very long with unhappy customers on this cruise. We were charged $29/day for room cleaning and our room was only cleaned twice, not only because we know how to clean up after ourselves but the insane amount of rocking kept us pretty seasick, we weren't able to leave the room a whole lot, and even if we could everything was booked solid, there wasn't much to do. The room itself was nice (balcony room) but the bed was solid as a rock and that divide in the middle from the beds being pushed together was definitely felt. The TV would occasionally just go out, it didn't time out, it flickered and would cut out, and sometimes have trouble coming back on. The remote only worked sometimes. The speakers weren't very clear as it was difficult to understand anything the captain or cruise director said. The art auctions are fun but wow is Park West ever a scam, do yourself a favor and look into them. It's deplorable that Norwegian allows such fraudulent activity on their ships. As long as the checks clear I guess it doesn't matter. While I am thankful they wanted to steer us away from the storm (which is as much a benefit to them as it is to us) they knew up front what was ahead and denied any form of cancellation refund, and they offered no compensation afterwards, no partial refunds, no future cruise discounts to show they're not so shady afterall, nothing. Even if we were able to take the intended itinerary a lot of things on this ship and about Norwegian was an absolute failure. Read Less

My family and I went on a 7 day cruise to no where. it was my Mom's and brother's first cruise and how disappointing it was for them on their first cruise to see nothing but a ship for 7 days. I also feel if we could sail around Bermuda we could have stopped there apparently the hurricane never came close. Poor decision making by NCL and the captain for the ship. As a result they did not compensate anyone in anyway for what was the worst cruise I have taken. Royal Caribbean was so much better and their variety of food was great. The dinning experience was very poor to say the least same menu day after day no variation (boring). Waite staff in the dinning rooms were very rude. They could have opened the other places to help compensate for not getting off the ship.No entertainment out by the pool during the day and with not having gotten off the ship for 7 days they should have had a back up plan. I also did not like the fact that you had to make a reservation for every show that you wanted to attend I go on vacation to relax not having to worry about anything and this was just one more thing to worry about. I do have to say my cabin steward was FANTASTIC and so very helpful and our cabin was very clean. Our first time on NCL and it will be our last. And thanks to the CEO's of NCL for not compensating us for such an awful cruise. We work hard for our money and this by far was the worst vacation I have ever been on. DO NOT sail NCL. Read Less

We're from NYC so the departure location for this cruise was very convenient for us. Unfortunately though, embarking was kind of a mess. We arrived about 30 minutes before our designated embarking time, but do to disorganization, we didn't end up getting called until the same time as the latest time slot, which we were supposed to be well-before. It wasn't that big of a deal though, and we were just excited to finally get on the ship. The Escape, overall, was a nice ship. We enjoyed the common areas and the views from the Garden Cafe. The dining in general was good. We really enjoyed the specialty dining, and definitely recommend Teppanyaki, Cagney's, and La Cucina. O'sheehan's was good for late-night dining. The entertainment was pretty good. The Brat Pack and the comedy acts were great. We also really enjoyed the ping pong tables on the ship. Beyond that though, the activities we wanted to do were pretty all pretty poor. The pool is very small, and the small size is made even worse by the relatively short hours it's open. We like to go late-night swimming/in the hot tubs. That wasn't an option because they all close at 10pm. So unless you want to go swimming in a pool packed to the brim during afternoon/morning hours, you're out of luck. We asked them when the pool/hot tubs opened. They told us around 5:30am. We thought, OK, cool, we'll go to the pool/hot tub for sunrise. We get there, and the pool ends up opening around 7. And it's already crowded by then. Why not have good hours so people who want to go at off times can? Seems very silly. The service onboard the ship was good. We found the staff friendly and it felt like they did care about the guest experience. Unfortunately though, that sentiment ends with the ship staff because it seems like corporate and behind-the-scenes has literally no grasp of customer service and engages in very questionable practices. For us, this was first seen in the shore excursion handling. For this trip we had a single day in the Bahamas, so we wanted to make the best of it. We planned 2 excursions offered by NCL: my girlfriend booked parasailing, and we both booked the Waverunner tour. The night before our half-a-day in the Bahamas, NCL sent us a cold letter about how they didn't get enough people for parasailing so they were canceling it. We couldn't believe that they would cancel a booked excursion the night before because they were at-risk for having under the amount of people they usual have. Our cruise had already been significantly changed because of a hurricane, and now they were cancelling something my girlfriend was looking forward to because it could impact their bottom line slightly. Like I said before, no care for customer service. This left us with nothing to do the entire morning of our single day in the Bahamas. We also booked the Waverunner tour. $250 for the two of us for about 30 minutes of riding a Waverunner. I don't mind paying that, but the experience was falsely advertised. They called it a "guided tour" which we were looking forward to. It was not that at all. It was just "ride fast" in a line for 30 minutes and see literally 0 sights. Additionally, the "tour guides" (again, there was no actual tour), were extremely rude and unprofessional. It was ridiculous. I informed NCL about this experience - and what did they do? In response, they sent me a form letter that addressed none of my concerns and didn't even mention the issues I described. Just ridiculously bad customer service. All in all, though we enjoyed the ship itself, Norwegian Cruise Line's terrible handling of the shore excursions and then lack of follow-up to the problems we had makes it impossible for us to book another cruise with them. They seem to have no regard for customer experience, as made visible by the fact they will cancel an excursion you paid hundreds of dollars for if they don't end up profiting the amount they want to on it. We'll by trying a cruise line that's more customer-centric for our next cruise. Read Less

Friends of mine were going so i decided to go with them. We were supposed to go to bermuda, but ncl changed it to port canaveral, stirrup cay & nassau, bahamas because of hurricane florence. Found out when i got home that other cruise lines still went to bermuda. It was horrible. First day i fell going to fire drill & lacerated my whole arm. Had to go to medical every day. Approximately 3 days later i fell getting off my scooter & lacerated my leg. Thought i was going to have stitches but they used sterry strips to close the cut. Medical is only open from 8:30 am to 9:30 am. Had to call get it by 9:00 am but it never arrived on time. Then my room phone broke & i could not call operator, guest services or housekeeping to get my scooter. Most of the time my phone did work there operator & housekeeping did not answer. My room rug & bathroom looked filthy. i rented a lift chair & scooter for the trip. when i got to my room both beds were still in there. They told me they would remove them. Finally got them to remove one. I gave up on the other one. I did not get off the boat in port canaveral as i grew up in miami & had already been there. Could not get off the boat at stirrup cay because of my mobility issues. They then cancelled nassau because of hurricane florence. I am 75 years old & the cruise was on my bucket list. The only other thing i wanted to do was have a dolphin encounter. Booked it in bermuda & then again for nassau. Both were cancelled. THIS IS THE REASON I CALL IT THE CRUISE TO NOWHERE & HELL.
