MSC Magnifica Cruise Review by BB
- Sail Date: March 2012
- Destination: Eastern Mediterranean
The holiday started badly with what can only be described as a chaotic shambles of embarkation with no information, organisation and at times a free for all with frustrated passengers trying to Jockey for position given the lack of clear information. Disinterested staff added to that experience and you immediately got the impression that worse was to follow and how right they were!
Cabin was fine and clean with no real complaints other that the poor choice of TV films at 6 euro per movie.
The main gripes were the lack of training of waiting and bar staff and their general attitude. In addition the entertainment program especially during the day was very much lacking and there was not enough variety when compared to many other cruises. The food was OK at best and boring at worst with a lack of real quality choice such as a good steak, which was always available on other cruises with or without additional cost. The service at our table was another shambles with a combination of errors ranging from the wrong meal being served to no wine waiter to no sparkling water and also being charged for items not purchased.
The tours were a complete rip off. For example in Athens a taxi for 5 persons was available for an average price of 25 euro or alternatively a train ride return for under 3 euro to the main tourist areas and the same applied to Haifa when a trip to Jerusalem was charged by MSC at over 100 euros per person. You have to appreciate that entrance to all these places was free and you were in effect paying for a bus journey and a tour guide.
little things such as being charged for water at your meal and having no water in the gym added to our misery.
Disembarkation and transfers to the airport was as disorganized as embarkation with many persons frustrated and voicing anger at the lack of proper information at Venice.
We will never again travel on a cruise with MSC and you should seriously consider the American companies such as Royal Caribbean who simply have much higher standards and better public relations and maybe MSC would learn by looking closely at these companies and applying their experiences.
