Norwegian Star was a big disapointment. Ship was not one of the better ones, food was just plain awful and the staff were not the best. One and only NCL trip.Trip to Alaska was good, scenery was breathtaking, weather was pretty good. Shore excursions were also good - Did a trip to the Mendenhall Glacier in Juneau and went with the crab fishing boat (from Deadliest Catch) in Ketchikan.Lineups to get on and off the ship were bad. At least 1 1/2 hours to get to registration desk, then the NCL rep tells us we need a visa (no we dont!!) so she is gone 10 minutes checking on that - no explanation when she gets back, just basically throws passports at us. Not a good start. Leaving took forever. Didn't go to Canada Place in Vancovuer but to Ballantyne Pier (container terminal. Waited in major lines then once we got out had to wait at least 1 hour for a cab. Lineups for the next group getting on the ship were mixing with lineups for us trying to get off!!! We were still in lines at 12 noon. Major disorganization.Stateroom was fine, bathroom good (nice big shower with good water pressure. No hair conditioner or bar soap. Our steward kept the place tidy, nice touch with the coffe makers in room. Balcony with table and chairs was good.Only way to describe most of the food was awful! The buffet was a complete write off. Just a big cafeteria. Everything looked like it had been there for days. Picked up a bun and it crumbled in my hand - that's hard. Nothing looked appetizing, even the desserts looked like they had just been defrosted. Other cruise ships we've been on we couldn't decide what to have - this one for dessert we would have an apple or some fruit. Only went to the buffet when absolutely necessary. Usually left hungary. The 24 hour restaurant was also like a cafe - food awful. Ate most of our meals in the Versailles main dining room. Breakfasts were good, everything else just mediocre. Not what we have been used to with other cruise lines. There was also no presentation of food. Very disappointing. Staff were just doing the absolute minimum, no connection at all with cruisers. So different from normal. This is the first cruise we bought snacks when we got to our first stop.Entertainment in the main theatre was awesome. Some of the best we have ever had on a ship - something different evry night.Overall the ship lacked the ambience usually felt on a cruise, the crew were just doing their job with no effort and the food was not even close to other cruiselines. Other people we talked to who had done NCL before said this was the worst they had been on - we're not prepared to give them another try - our vacations are too important to us.
