There is only one cruise ship to the Hawaiian islands, The Pride of America. If you must go this is the only way. I was expecting attentive service, immaculate cleanliness, excellent meals and the kind of luxury I have come to expect with previous cruises. This was not delivered. From the moment we boarded we were being pestered to sign up for extras. Everything imaginable came at an extra cost, even soft drinks. Our room was clean, but the overall impression of the ship was it needed refurbishment and a good cleaning. The food served was plentiful, but hardly appealing. I weigh 250 lbs. and didn't get this way because I don't like to eat. I basically ate omelets, salad, pizza and iced tea, because I disliked the dining room food. The first night in the Liberty dining room I tried the mahi mahi, it was severely overcooked so I returned it and tried the steak which was very tough and tasteless. Here in Hawaiian waters the only fish they served was frozen salmon, mahi mahi and tilapia. There are 10 or more bars on the ship. The ship will not let you bring liquor on board, they will confiscate it. They will sell it to you at a very inflated price. Some things they do are just in bad taste. They charge extra to take a Christmas cruise, all right. Then on the cruise they want you to pay 20 dollars extra for a Christmas brunch. On Christmas eve they sold a Pub crawl to the many bars on the ship.
