We chose the cruise after watching many Viking commercials during the pandemic and were impressed with Viking's image. Additionally, we had friends who had great experience on Viking cruises and we trusted their recommendation. W We chose this particular cruise because we wanted to sail on a smaller, less crowded boat and really wanted to explore the Bordeaux region of France. Based on research we knew that Viking provided first class accommodations and extensive guided excursions. Friends who have traveled on Viking River Cruises had told us about the various room levels and we were extremely happy with the room we selected.
The ship was wonderful and the staff, level of detail and our attention to our needs was fantastic. For example, I asked if I could get distilled water for my CPAP machine - -housekeeping delivered bottled distilled water in addition to our regular bottled water. Food allergies were monitored with extreme care.
The optional excursions were wonderful and offered a wide variety of things to do. The guides Viking utilized were all extremely knowledgable about the areas we visited, and we visited and learned things that we never would have if we had planned a trip to this area on our own. The receiver/ear piece provided to hear the guide was very helpful and allowed us to hear even when we were a distance away.
The room (Veranda Stateroom) was spacious and beautiful. We knew this was a small river ship and were surprised at how much space we had and the functionality designed into the room. The hotel staff assigned to our cabin, Monica, made sure everything was always in order and the room was always spotless. We were pleasantly surprised at the size and functionality of the bath and shower. The Forseti is a relatively new ship and well designed in terms of space and function. The hot water in the shower was virtually "instant on" with excellent pressure. We loved the veranda! The only down side was we had so many things to do on and off ship that we didn't get to use it much!
