Picked this cruise because we got a great price deal. We have cruised with several other lines before, but never with P&O. Boarding the Iona at Southampton was very well organised with plenty of staff and took a little over 30 minutes from entering the hall to getting on the ship. All good here. First impressions of the ships Atrium area was, it was not as glamourous as some other ships we have been on, but still very acceptable. The cleanliness of the public areas was noticeably well polished and good. The balcony cabin we were allocated on deck eleven was modern well fitted out and immaculately clean even with a quick look under the beds!. The size was potentially a little smaller than what we were used to, but it had a settee bed in it as well as the two single beds so this reduced the floor area. The bathroom was excellent with a good size shower giving good water flow rate. Our cabin Attendant "Peter" was great continually asking if everything was in order etc. He kept the cabin to a high standard. Thanks Peter. The only bad point for the cabin was it had no balcony light for use at night. Or at least we could not find it, we managed with a torch, so no big deal. There are plenty of bars on the ship and drinks prices were only slightly above what you pay in say a London pub, a pint of beer just less than a fiver, a glass of wine about the six / seven pound mark depending what wine it was. We had the ultimate drinks package, but decided it probably wasn't worth getting it unless you were a very big drinker! The choice of beers available throughout the ship is very good with both the Lager and Bitter sectors covered with good choices. There are many restaurants on the ship, many are included in the fare and some have a supplementary charge, we used both types and were very happy with the food quality and choices available and thought the extra charge restaurants were generally good value for the small extra cost. These along with entertainment shows are booked via the My Holiday web page on either your mobile or tablet device. It took a bit of getting used to, but after a few attempts found it to work quite well, with virtual queues available at most restaurants where they let you know when your desired table is ready. If you could not get in when you wanted on the web page a visit to reception usually secured the booking! Entertainment shows and events were many, all around the ship and catered for most people. We thought the choice of entertainment was well the best we had ever on any cruise and the acts / shows were very decent . "Pulse" the ships band / vocalists were particularly good all round, Great. There is a great big Clubhouse at the back of the ship that reminded me of a Grand version of a "Working Mens Club" with many music types, Acts, comedian etc. All on 'till the small hours. Great atmosphere. Then there is the Skydome area with acrobatic shows and bands playing, all good, Ships Cinema, Quiz shows and even Premier Legue football matches shown in Bradies the choice was endless. The waiter and bar staff people were very polite and you could get drinks etc after just a few seconds wait, all worked well. The only small criticism was the small size of the main swimming pools, although this was mitigated to some extent with the amount of whirlpool baths around the ship. Disembarkation was also very organised and we got off quickly and easily after a full english breakfast no issues here. All in all we gave P&O Cruises a full five stars and would have no hesitation cruising on Iona again. A very enjoyable and value for money holiday, Thanks Very Much P&O Lee and Wendy Parker.
