This was our first cruise with Princess, and my second cruise ever (the first cruise was with Carnival in 2005). Re traveled aboard the Ruby Princess, to the Pacific Northwest. The ship is extremely seaworthy and very beautiful.
I have read a lot of negative reviews prior to the cruise, and wanted to post a different review to ease concerns others reading these reviews may have.
My only negative experience was with the Lotus Spa. We had pre-purchased two couples’ massages, with the first one being on the embarkation day. When we arrived at the spa the staff were very aggressive in trying to sell us other services. We waited for over 30 minutes for our treatment to start- while the spa staff tried to sell treatments to other passengers- and eventually we cancelled both treatments. The spa staff forgot about us (customers who had already paid) in order to sell treatments to other passengers. This was frustrating so we elected to not spend any money there. This certainly was not something we were going to dwell on or have disrupt our first “no kids” vacation since our honeymoon.
Spacious, well kept, comfortable bed, and plenty of drawers and closet space. The Lido deck above was not overly loud, and did not interrupt our sleep.
Victoria has amazing shopping- Gucci, Chanel, Cartier, etc. The shopping district is a short walk from the ship. The city felt very safe in the shopping district. The streets were relatively clean. I will go back to visit this city again.
Seattle was bad. Open drug use everywhere, people overdosing on the sidewalk during our drive back from Pioneer Square. A woman in Pioneer square smoking (crack I assume) on a bench and then zoning out in her bra afterwards. Plenty of open drug transactions right in the open while we waited to go into the underground tour. This did not feel like a safe city and it was very dirty. I have no plans to ever return to this city. It may be worse than San Francisco.
Astoria was a very small town, not much to do.
Victoria was pretty, but compared to Vancouver older and a little run down. Buchart Gardens was stunning and worth the 45 minute bus ride. There is no Uber on this island.
