We had booked this cruise originally for July 2020; however, cancelled twice due to COVID pandemic. Happy to say we were finally able to cruise this time.

Embarkation in Seattle (Smith Cove - Pier 91) was easy. We flew into Seattle the day before and stayed at Hotel Sorrento ... a historic Seattle hotel about a 15 minute taxi ride to the port. We arrived at the port at approximately 10:30 am. The port accommodates two ships ... with one side designated for Celebrity. Plenty of staff around directing folks to drop off luggage and then directing folks inside the cruise terminal building. After showing all of our documentation, we were directed to the waiting area since the ship was not yet ready to board. Approximately 20 minutes later, boarding commenced and we were in our stateroom by 11:15 am. We booked Concierge Class (Cabin 1008), so attended the private lunch at noon. It was a great way to start the cruise.

CABIN: clean and well maintained by our cabin steward, Frankie. He was always available for every question or need. There was a slight water leak into the carpet on Day 2, but was quickly fixed and all steps taken to dry out the small wet area. A bottle of wine was brought to us for this minor issue. It was great to have a balcony, although on the Alaska cruise, it was not utilized much. While the ship is older, the cabin was in great condition. We were glad to have taken magnetic hooks, as well as a travel clothesline for small item laundry. There is no self-service laundry, so we did ship laundry service once and clothes came back in excellent condition .. although pricey.

Port Reviews

Ketchikan

We left the ship as soon as possible and had breakfast at the Pioneer Cafe in downtown. Then we walked through downtown and Creek Street prior to taking the Best of Ketchikan tour.

Juneau

We had booked the seaplane tour to Taku Lodge; however, due to cloudy conditions, all helicopters and seaplanes were grounded. While we were disappointed, we instead went up the Mount Robertson tramway and then took a shuttle out to the Mendenhall Glacier. The glacier was spectacular to see, so our 'Plan B' worked out just fine.

Hint: always have a Plan B since the excursions could be cancelled due to weather

Skagway

We took the White Pass train tour, which was approximately 3 hours long. It was spectacular, but right after crossing into Canada, the train turns around and returns via same set of tracks. Previous years, the train went further into Canada, which would have been better. Skagway is a beautiful small town ... take your time to sight see and enjoy. It was cold (50's and blustery winds).
