Seven members of our family enjoyed a lovely 5 day cruise for the most part. The hostess at the dining room had great difficulty managing reservations and we were bounced from table to table in My Time Dining although our reservation was for the same time each night. Our waiter was great and the service to our rooms was acceptable. We often had to ask for missing items like clean towels and toiletries but the attendant was always courteous in responding. The hygiene in the Oceanview was lacking. We observed people touching the food with their bare hands and not using tongs or serving spoons and staff did not intervene to either remove the food dishes or advise the person to use a utensil.

On our 5th day a family member became ill and we all did covid tests which we brought with us. This one family member tested positive and we did what we felt was the responsible thing and reported it to Medical after which another family member quarantined with our ill family member. Medical staff checked in in person or by phone several times a day. The information from medical staff was sometimes confusing. One said to test while another said not to. We followed the responsible way and tested daily even on day 8 disembarkation and all continued to be negative. However, from the point we reported the positive result the rest of our cruise was a nightmare. None of the other six members - who had tested negative day 6 and 7 was allowed in the dining room or allowed to drink in the bars and venues. Their cards were all marked and when they ordered a beverage it was given to them in a to-go container and they were not allowed to stay. All food was delivered to the rooms - by very courteous and friendly staff I must add. It is important to note that our county and state health service guidelines advise that family members who are negative but exposed to a positive family member do NOT need to restrict their activities unless and until they test positive. Celebrity instead chose to ruin the cruise of the whole family. The family member testing positive did not require any meds except a fever reducer and cough medicine and symptoms remained mild to moderate. We were assigned a "quarantine concierge" who regularly provided inaccurate information about disembarkation. She rescheduled our flights which was appreciated but our room invoices were all inaccurate. She put one family member in two rooms confusing the on-board-credit and eliminated another family member entirely further confusing the credit card charges. She was conveniently unavailable at disembarkation to rectify the accounts. I spoke to Post Cruise upon arriving home and hopefully the charges will be reversed. The quarantine concierge told us we would be escorted off the ship by staff where we would meet our other 5 family members and be allowed to take transportation anywhere we wanted. Both were untrue. In the terminal we were confined to a section, not allowed to join our family, not allowed access to our luggage which was sprayed with some type of solution, and forced to take their transportation but not allowed to go to the airport. The luggage issue was puzzling if not totally ridiculous since current guidelines say covid is not transmitted in food or on surfaces such as clothes/luggage. Our family had to meet up with us later while we were forced to take celebrity transportation. We asked to go to the airport and two staff, one speaking English to the driver and another speaking to the driver in Spanish, directed her not to take us to the airport. I understand enough Spanish to know what was said. The Spanish speaking staff was very rude and in a mocking sarcastic manner put his face up to the window of the cab, laughed and said "have a great day!" as we drove off. Celebrity exit staff were generally rude, lacking in compassion or kindness, disrespectful, and totally a disappointment from any other Celebrity experience we'd ever had - and we're Elite status and have cruised with them a number of times. They treated the group like lepers and made no personal contact - that I saw - that showed kindness or interest in anyone's status or welfare. If these are allegedly sick people a kind word would have been indicated - "hope you feel better soon, take care, etc." The older woman directing us off spoke of the group to other staff as "them" and never once that I saw spoke directly to or made eye contact with any member of the covid group and their families. If I had to do this over again, I would not report the positive test result. I would have behaved responsibly and self-quarantined in the room - followed CDC guidelines online - administered the over-the-counter meds we brought with us - and advised the rest of the family to continue to test daily. There was no benefit to reporting other than to ostracize the entire family. Given the lack of attention to hygiene and no masks being required anywhere - even when Celebrity had dozens of confirmed cases - there was likely to be hundreds who would have tested positive, and even more who were positive post-cruise due to the poor health standards onboard. It would have been responsible on the part of Celebrity to initiate different health procedures when the first few cases arose - random testing and mask wearing in the Oceanview and entertainment venues / lounges at the very least. Also, the problems didn't end when we were all off. We arranged for "port valet" which is a service to take luggage directly from the ship to the airport. One piece of luggage was lost and we have yet to locate it. When a family member called for help Celebrity staffed laughed and said "it's not our problem" and hung up! Well then whose problem is it? The airline had no record of the luggage being taken from the terminal so it's still in the terminal but Celebrity conveniently has moved on to the next cruise and forgotten us. My high ratings below reflect our experiences on our best days. The lower ratings reflect the poor experiences noted above. We have back-to-back cruises scheduled for later this year but are going to cancel. Celebrity was quite a disappointment this time around. When things go well it's easy for everyone to be pleasant. It's when there's a problem that the true quality of the cruise line comes out.

Juneau

We went on the Mendenhall Glacier, Whale Watching, and Wildlife Quest excursion. We enjoyed this almost 6 hour tour but didn't see enough of Mendenhall and there was no real wildlife quest included. The whale watching was great and we saw quite a few. The guide onboard was great too. At Mendenhall we were only allowed an hour and there are at least four things to do there - hike to the waterfall, hike to shore for pictures, cinema in visitor center, and visitor center tour - let alone just watch the glacier which is truly breathtaking. We saw no wildlife except the whales and a few sea lions lounging on a buoy. If it's your first time to Juneau, just take the shuttle bus from the dock to Mendenhall and enjoy a few hours there. You can save whale watching for another time in Juneau or later in the cruise in Victoria.

Ketchikan

We took the Trolley and City Tour which was low key and fun. We saw where totems are made and learned about the meaning of each piece. We toured the city and had the highlights pointed out to us. On a previous cruise in the fall to Alaska in Ketchikan we went to the Salmon Hatchery which was fantastic. It wasn't available in the summer months.

Skagway

We took the train which is always fun. We've done it a few times and it's always enjoyable. The return ride can get a bit long because you're seeing the same sites, just backwards, but it still is a beautiful ride.
