Anniversary celebrated on day 3, Juneau. Saw Alaska for 1st time.
We picked this itinerary because of simple Vancouver departure and return location, and wanted no more than 7 days. HAL offered the ideal itinerary and made a compelling last minute booking offer (we found this 60 days prior to) Dates worked for an easy day ahead and day after in Vancouver with only a week off work. Would highly recommend the Pan Pacific hotel, right in the Canada Place cruise terminal. They delivered our suitcases from room to ship as a courtesy service.
Read that HAL and this ship were more in line with what a couple in our late 50s were looking for. Previous cruises were with our kids. This time we wanted something more suited for us. The demographics of the other guests were exactly as we expected – mainly people in their 50s or older, majority retirees, very few children or teens. Mix of nations - 1/3 Canadians, 1/3 Americans, 1/3 Euros (UKers).
Without knowing in advance much about this national Park, and the full day our ship spent travelling into the bay and back, we were simply blown away by the vistas. We saw brown bears trotting daylong the shore. The park rangers brought on board to narrate and mingle with interested passengers was a perfect way to learn and appreciate a truly unique landscape. (The only US national park only accessible by boat, and the most remote one from anywhere else.)
And....being fortunate to see ice calving off the Margaree Glacier Sounds like muffled, rumbling thunder .... from our sun baked verandah ... pure bliss
