Sail Date: May 2022
Cabin: Verandah Stateroom

Loved Alaska and we were lucky enough to have sunshine until the last port of Ketchikan. I have a bazillion beautiful pictures and memories for a lifetime. If I could separate the ratings, I would give the itinerary a 5 and the ship a 4.

We did the Tracy Arm excursion where you get off the ship onto an excursion boat out in the middle of the water and spend 7 hours exploring and then meet up with the ship in Juneau. I can't say enough how this is so worth the money... do it... do it... do it!

The White Pass Rail excursion in Skagway was so awesome. To ride thru tunnels of snow higher than the train and see the breath-taking scenery... there are just not enough descriptive words.

Cabin Review

Verandah Stateroom

Beware of cabins VH4060-VH4080 (at least) and those J interior cabins across from them. They are directly over BB King and will blast you out of the room.

We were moved. A wonderful large verandah cabin that was angled and had a large angled balcony. It was an extremely quiet location. The only downside was our door is directly across from a crew only door that was used a lot and the door closed loudly, but we weren't there most of the day and used ear plugs at night but there wasn't as much activity at night.

Port Reviews

Glacier Bay

We spent a long time here with the ship slowly circling. We saw glaciers calving and the scenery is just beyond beautiful.

Juneau

After our Tracy Arm excursion we met up with the ship in Juneau, walked around town, had a Duck Fart at the Red Dog Saloon... well... because I had to. It was good!

Skagway

We did the White Rail Pass train excursion. I loved going early-mid May. The snow up in the mountains made for some glorious pictures. Again, well worth doing.

We did the Tracy Arm excursion where you get off the ship on the way to Juneau and then meet up in Juneau 7 hours later. Take this trip if you can. It's worth every penny. It's a bucket list item. We saw a humpback whale, harbor seals, eagles and otters and weaved through the ice all the way back to the glacier. The scenery is unbelievable! The crew on the boat is top notch. They fished a piece of glacier ice out of the water and chopped it up and made us all drinks with it. While I enjoyed all the ports... this was by far the highlight of the cruise.

Ketchikan

Ketchikan was our last port and we had sunshine every day until this port so the gloom didn't help that fact that we had an awesome excursion of 7 hours planned and it got cancelled (for lack of participation). We instead booked the Lumberjack show, which is very entertaining and those guys really have some athletic skills. However, we got off the ship and walked all the way to the end of town, stopped in some shops, toured the Discovery Center and rushed all the way back to the ship to get a quick lunch (we really want to eat locally but didn't think we had time) and rushed out to meet our excursion only to be told to walk all the way back to where we were to start with. To say we were angry is putting it mildly. Be forewarned. If you do this just stay in town. They do your tickets right there at the venue. I don't want to take anything away from the show performers because they gave their everything - but this just wasn't my thing.
