We were not worried about the Superbowl on this cruise, we were interested in Valentine's day. Savannah was such a fun cruise director that I wish she was going to be the CD on the Dream in November. If we wanted to see a show, we would have to start lining up 45 minutes to an hour before the doors would open or we'd be stuck with bad seats. The 1 comedy show we saw was funny. I was mad at the "newlywed" couple they chose for the love & marriage game because those prude kids refused to answer some of the questions. Why? Because their "mommies" were in the audience. Their moms gave them full permission to spill the tea, but they still refused! My husband and I would have done it and had fun with it, but we had been married for 3 months by then and they choose who's been married the shortest time. Brunch was impossible to get into until the last sea day. The food on the Lido buffet was horrible. I ordered room service and while the chicken strips were good, the fries I paid for were not so good and some of them were undercooked. Room service cheesecake is not that good either. I also ordered a rueben 1 night and the meat was tough. On Valentine's night we won a trophy and a bottle of champagne when Savannah had my husband crawl to me with a rose in his mouth to the song "Let's get it on". We loved the silent party, white party, and 80's rock & glow party. We didn't like the 1 night we went to the night club after the white party. Everyone was dancing on the lido deck to the silent party, but when we went to the night club everyone suddenly became squares who wouldn't dance unless it was a line dance. they started playing the Cupid Shuffle and halfway through the song the sound system went off. The Dj goes "it's not my fault" and people started yelling that it wasn't the first time it had happened in the club that week. The hot tubs, including on the serenity deck were a disappointing luke warm. It was too cold for the waterslides. I hated going to smoke on deck 11 because there were so many rude people. One time I went up there to smoke and all the ashtrays were gone from the tables in the middle. I asked my husband to grab an ashtray from a table between 2 people in the chairs with ottomans. He went over and asked if anyone was using the ashtray (They were NOT) and this rude fat lady goes "We're using it occasionally" While she hurried up and got out a cigarette and lit it. As my husband walked away empty handed he heard her say to the guy next to her "they never bring them back" like she owns the ashtrays! From now on I will pack my own butt bucket, but will not go back on the Vista. We encountered so many rude passengers on the Vista that I will be glad when the Jubilee rolls into Galveston to replace it. We did meet a lot of great people from the FB cruise group for this cruise though. Also the Embarkation process was longer than my first cruise and we were so worn out the first day we barely did anything. We hid several ducks and found 3 this time. Our steward was nice, but did a poor job at cleaning the junior tub both before and during our trip. I mean there was a ring in the tub before I drew my first bath. Thankfully I pack good enough to handle things like that. I also noticed the coffee table was dusty on the bottom shelf when I went to slide 2 of the 4 12 packs of water we ordered onto it. IDK what was up with the bottled water this time, but some of it tasted funny and we couldn't stomach it. We ended up having to come home with 3 6 packs of the water plus the 2 large bottles from the bar. We had 2 outlets plus USB ports on the desk, but this one was a smaller desk than we had on the Dream. There was also less closet space than we had on the Dream and they were both 6M Deluxe Ocean View rooms on deck 1. We had to put 2 of our suitcases under the bed and this time we only had 4. On the Dream we had 5 suitcases and fit them all in the closets.
Didn't get off the ship. Didn't want to tender in. Those who did go into port said it was a trashy town. We were glad we stayed on the ship after hearing that.
There's always a good time to be had. Especially if you go to Mr. Sancho's!!!
The free beach is nice and taking the sky ride to and from it wasn't as scary as I thought it would be. It was actually fun riding over the tree tops and seeing iguanas and small lizards in the trees. FYI it takes 10 minutes on the sky ride each way.
We have only ever cruised out of Galveston.
