This was the virgin voyage for the Lofn after the 2020 pandemic lockdown. The crew had to quarantine prior to our departure for 14 days. Getting into Hungary for our departure was touch and go (because of Covid), but Viking came through with necessary documents that allowed us to enter. I shouldn’t have worried… Breezing through customs with the Viking provided paperwork was easy-peasy and it only got better from there. There were 46 passengers and 55 crew on this maiden voyage. We were waited on hand and foot… if we even whispered a desire, it suddenly appeared… Tour guides, who hadn’t had tours for over 18 months, shop and restaurant owners were so very happy to see Viking cruisers again. I cried every evening (and thanked the good Lord) on the top deck because of how thankful I was to experience the beautiful scenery, savor the delicious beers and wines, enjoy the incredible food (and luscious soups), and receive a wonderful education from learned historians about this part of the world. We’ve booked two cruises for 2022 and will look forward to additional trips. I can’t say enough about Viking and their hard-working crew. We were fortunate to have beautiful weather and water levels. There were absolutely no hiccups or disappointments for us this entire trip, so feel truly blessed. Spitting into a tube daily and wearing masks was so worth it to have had this opportunity.
