Not so Glory-ous!

Sail Date: June 2010
Destination: Canada & New England
Embarkation: New York (Manhattan)
Hi! This was my sixth cruise and the first time on Carnival.

We embarked from New YOrk and got to the pier about 11:30am. From the moment we entered the terminal the boarding experience was awful. This was the first time a ship was leaving out of New YOrk for the season and it showed. The terminal was extremely hot and very unorganized. The Carnival reps were yelling at us and other people on line because someone moved the ropes that lead u through the lines like disneyland. IT was a very frustrating experience.

we got on board the ship around 12:20pm and I loved how everyone from the ship were wearing red tshirts that said, " just ask" We were able to go right to our room as this was the first sailing from ny. The red sail restaurant was crowded and to be honest I hated it. It was spread out too much and it was a pain to get your food and bring it back to the table. There were always long lines by the mongolian wok and fish and chips. The food was cold and the More selection is limited.

Sail away out on the deck was fun and it was beautiful to sail from NYC.

The cruise director Jorge was great. The show the first night was comedy and the two comics on the ship did an act for a few minutes. Glory is one of two ships in the fleet with a comedy club. you do not need tickets to get in and it is located in the ebony nightclub. this was one of my favorite places on the ship.

We went on this cruise with another couple to celebrate our 20th wedding anniversary. They did not link our reservations as planned and we had to switch our dining room last minute. Another way not to start your cruise.

Our room was 7204 a category J which is an inside room with an obstructed view located on the empress deck. This was great room located at the front of the ship. The obstructed window wasnt bad there was a railing at the front of the ship. Worth the price of this room and I didnt mind the walk to the dining room.

Monday was a day at sea. Programs were running late and some activities were held in rooms that were too small or not good what was going on. If you are into shopping, the shops on the promenade deck werent too thrilling. The deals werent great and some things arent put out until the last day. The show Monday night was a vegas type review called LIving in America. It was about an hour long and the production value was unreal for a cruise ship. I was impressed. This show was a salute to famous places and people in america. The amber palace theatre was beautiful and i sat on the floor and in the upper mezz. during my stay. the sound system was awesome!

Tuesday we had no problems going off the ship for our excursion in St. John. I did not like the trolley tour and neither did anyone else in my party.

Tuesday night was an magic show called JUSTIN ILLUSION. Great show filled with rock music , lighting effects, and dancers. Some of the tricks were corny but it was a fun filled hour.

On wed it was another day at sea. One of the highlights was tea time. loved it! very relaxing between 3:30-4:30pm in the dining room. There was a piano player and they just walked around with little finger sandwiches and pastries. the love and marriage game show was in the afternoon and JOrge the cruise director made this so much fun. The show that night was JUSt Rock. It was a good production and it ranged from pop, to disco and 50's music.

I never had to wait for an elevator more than like 2 minutes and the ship was easy to navigate. Not a big selection of items from room service. The Glory was very clean even the public restrooms. The casino was packed all the time especially at night. There were teens running around all over the place and not enough security to enforce the adults only area.

We were off the ship in like 20 minutes, very easy.... waiting for a cab at the pier in nyc was awful not enough cabs from the port authority for the 3000 people that just came off a cruisehip.

Ive been on Disney and RCI ships. The food on carnival and the service can not compare to these, it is poor in comparison. Carnival staff was friendly and i Loved the shows- the production value was unreal for a ship. There was much more choice of live music on the GLORy compared to other ships that I have sailed on. if you have any questions please let me know Less

we took the trolley car tour to the reversing falls. the tour guide was so bland and had no personality. i was very disappointed. the car itself was hot and i was so disappointed in the city marketplace. we went back on the ship like at 1230pm
