We had never been on a river cruise before but travel extensively, almost always independently. But we decided we wanted to try this out based on all of the positive things we heard from friends. I did a bunch of research before selecting Scenic. They seemed to have the best features at the best price and excellent reviews, even though I didn't know anyone who had used them personally.
We actually joined the cruise after 10 days traveling around Europe on our own. It was very nice to arrive on board to such a warm greeting and be shown to our cabin to unpack. The cabin lived up to its billing. Plenty of space, storage spots and features, great sliding glass sun balcony. Nice bathroom. Our butler Harry stopped by to introduce himself, show us how things work etc.
The crew was top notch, super nice, couldn't do enough to help you. Our cruise director Andreea was wonderful. The food was very good, particularly breakfast though dinner had some excellent meals, though not all of them were equally good.
One reason we chose Scenic was the Free Choice concept, where most days you had 3 tour options to pick from. They were very good overall. The use of e-bikes from on board was another reason we picked them and that was fun.
Great cocktail selection, including several single malt scotches (my drink of choice) all included.
Only knock is that some of the docking locations seemed sub-par (like winding up against a cement wall in Karlsruhl instead of in pretty Rastatt).
We had a wonderful private concert event in a palace in Ratstatt, and 3 different excellent local entertainers come on board 3 different nights, in addition to the on-board pianist.
The ship was incredibly stable. i get sea sick and even when there were waves or wakes in the river I never felt it rock an inch.
The bed was extremely comfortable, as were the ample pillows. Good TV and wifi, good storage space to easily unpack everything, plus a safe for valuables. The bathroom was well thought out and housekeeping service was very prompt and friendly
Beautiful little city, great place to start. Note that all museums are closed on Mondays
This was disappointing. We booked the winery excursion but couldn't make it because of a local strike that had trucks blocking the roads, so we had to settle for this, our 2nd choice. Unfortunately, there was no knowledge of this on board and we started out on the bus only to get stuck in traffic and have to change plansView All 79 Le Petite France Reviews
Nice spot, docking further away then planned left us only 35 minutes of free time however which sucked
Really wonderful town, great tour guide, interesting history and beautiful things to see and food and cognac to taste. Followed by 2 hours of free time to enjoy spots in town such as Vetter brewery and Cafe Gundel.View All undefined undefined Reviews
Great to ride this 9 mile loop along the Rhine then over to Lahnstein..A fun outingView All undefined undefined Reviews
We docked right across the river from the Cathedral which was beautiful to watch the sun come up over.Just a 5 minute bus ride and we were there, with a nice walking tour of the Cathedral and Old Town, followed by ample time to explore on our own.View All 148 Walking Tour Reviews
These 2 tours were combined. Edam was the first stop. Just a charming little town with a good job by the tour guide, followed by a stop at Henri Willig's dairy farm for a presentation on how they make the cheese and a tasting. Then continued to Volendam...View All 13 Edam Walking Tour Reviews
...The last stop on the tour, after Edam and Henri Willig's Dairy Farm. Volendam is a neat waterfront town. A bit commercial but the shops and food are both quite good as we were able to explore this all on our own.View All 17 Volendam Walking Tour Reviews
