We chose this cruise, because as our 49th state, Alaska seemed to offer a foreign type of experience in an American context, that we had not previously explored.
We both enjoyed the balance of excursions that provided a historical perspective of the indigenous cultures as well as the Russian influences that preceded our purchase, and the contemporary reality of a new Alaska. Visits to museums, indigenous villages and totem pole parks, as well as exhibits showing the flora and fauna of the state had a high educational value. The total take away of this cruise was extremely enriching and surpassed our expectations.
The dining experience was very eclectic. The five on board restaurants offered cuisine that encompassed tastes of the local fare, as well as interpretations on Pacific Rim fusion, Italian, American basics (fried and BBQ chicken), and a buffet that changed daily. All the food was well prepared, but our recommendation would be to take advantage of the Chef's Choice Restaurant for their five-course menus and wine pairings -delicious!
Cabin Review
The suite was spacious. It provided ample room for each of us to feel comfortable, relaxed, and able to pursue our varied interests in reading material. TVs were available in the living room, bedroom, and even the bathroom. the cabin was cleaned twice daily and the wet bar was replenished daily ( requests for personal preferences in contents were accommodated to the best of their ability). Laundry and dry cleaning were complimentary, as was the 24 hour room service. All these amenities contributed to an experience that would rival that of any 5 star hotel.
