My husband and I are an active couple in our 30's/40's. Last summer, we took an Alaskan cruise on HAL's Eurodam. We really enjoyed that experience (https://www.cruisecritic.com/memberreviews/memberreview.cfm?EntryID=624622) and wanted to repeat it. For this cruise, we got a good price with discounted airfare. We were even able to upgrade from an inside cabin to a balcony for a fraction of the difference. Before the cruise, we spent 3 nights at an Airbnb in Seattle's Magnolia neighborhood. We had a fantastic time visiting the Ballard Locks and Discovery Park! This is a very walkable area, and it's tucked away from the downtown tourists. Also, it was a short drive to Pier 91. My feelings for this cruise were mixed, so I will divide my thoughts between pros and cons.
PROS
~ There is only one designated smoking area, and it is located outside at the back of deck 9. For a nonsmoker, this was truly a breath of fresh air!
We got a great upgrade deal on this balcony room! There is lots of storage and plenty of space in the couch/vanity area. There is a lifeboat located the deck below this room, but it did not ruin our view from the balcony.

Sitka is beautiful! We made a short stop at the Russian Bishop's House but did not take the guided half hour tour. We visited the Sitka Sound Center and had a blast exploring the touch tanks. We spent time on the beach and walked through the Sitka National Historical Park. We had fabulous weather! If you are in Sitka on a sunny day, spend as much time as you can outdoors. We grabbed Subway sandwiches for lunch because we wanted to maximize our time outside in the natural beauty.
We took a scenic walk away from Creek Street and ended up at the city park. We observed a bald eagle relaxing on a branch over a creek that runs through the park. We hiked up part of Deer Mountain Trail. Due to time constraints, we had to turn around before the 1 mile lookout spot.
The weather was gorgeous during out evening visit! From the cruise terminal, we turned right on Dallas Road. We visited Beacon Hill Park and Holland Point Park. The views were absolutely amazing! We loved our scenic evening walk among the locals.
From town, we walked along Basin Road and then hiked the Gold Creek Flume Trail. The waterfalls are beautiful! We visited Cope Park. If it had been a warmer day, this would have made a good picnic spot. On Franklin St, we visited Amalga Distillery, which was buzzing with locals. The gin here is fantastic!
