We picked the NCL Escape from NYC to Bahamas because of the departure location and timing alone. Destination was secondary for us. We were blessed with really good weather.
We were pleasantly surprised by most of our experience on this 7-day cruise.
The ship's design was attractive and sophisticated (we had wondered if it would be over the top or tacky.). And it was also squeaky clean! We had no idea that it's completely normal for a ship to be washed every night and painted every day.
Great storage: plenty of hangers and hanger space; loads of open space under bed for suitcases (we had 4!); one narrow closet of shelves, head to toe; several enclosed cabinets that we didn't even use; clever small shallow shelves directly on mirrors in stateroom and in bathroom (nice design touch). Mirrors make both spaces feel larger than they are.
We loved the aft cabin! It was really quiet at night — never once did a passerby in the corridor make noise or wake us. We think that's because aft cabins tend to be 'at the end of the line' — ie, very little foot traffic back and forth.
It's also nice to have something to look at — the wake. Sounds silly but we all felt that way. You can see the side view almost anywhere on the ship, but the aft is special.
IMPT TIP: You must book your "tender" reservations EARLY. And note that the reservation might not show up on the TV in your room. We got Group 11, but because it didn't show up, we rebooked day-of, and were stuck on the last tender: Group 15! Because the wind picked up dramatically, we didn't even set foot on GSC until after 2pm.
The wind kicked up the surf and sand, decreasing visibility and making the snorkeling difficult. If you find yourself in that situation, swim WAY out to the far end of the "snorkel garden" so you're in the lee of the small rocky island in the bay. Much clearer water and we actually saw a lot of lovely fish. And a lot fewer people!
