We took a Carnival Dream cruise in September, The Breakaway ship was not as clean as Carnival. The staff (except our cabin steward who was fantastic) was not as personable. Carnival Dream goes out of its way to make you feel important. They need many many more bar staff especially near the pool or a better system. Getting drinks was a hassle and took way too long. The waitstaff walking around the pool couldn't keep up with the orders. One of the poolside bartenders was mean and rude. Everyone around us felt the same way. I made complaint about her. I also overheard her and the other bartender rolling their eyes and saying to each other "just a few more hours". They really need to speak to the staff about who is making their jobs possible. The buffet food was AMAZING. However, the food in the restaurants and dining halls was very subpar. I liked being able to eat when and where I wanted as opposed to Carnival but it was not obvious that reservations needed to be made months in advance. The shows were AMAZING. Very high quality as were the singers and dancers around the ship. The dance classes need to be in a bigger venue. We were stepping all over each other and could not see the instructor. The games (newlywed etc..) were very forced and not entertaining. The excursion, drink packages, and wifi packages are extremely higher than Carnival. Considering they own Harvest Kaye it would have been nicer if they offered more affordable excursions and we didn't have to pay $25/person to go to Belize. Costa Maya was way too short considering we paid for a day there. The slides and outdoor ropes course were better than Carnival's dream. The front desk staff was extremely nice. If it were not for our friends we probably would not have had a good time.
We had an end cabin and it was a nice size. Our son's room was very tight. The rooms were very clean and our cabin steward was extremely nice and attentive. The bathrooms were much bigger than I assumed and the showers were great.
We did not take an excursion because NCL inflates the prices because they own the island. We needed more umbrellas. The volleyball was fun but the swim area was small and blocked off so there were no fish to see.
We only had a few hours. For some reason, we had to be back on the ship by 1:30pm. There is barely any beach and you have to pay NCL for an excursion to sit by the water. We did find a restaurant called the Lobster shack. If you eat there you can sit by the water. The foods was extremely extremely affordable and excellent! We had a good time.
