We chose this Western Caribbean itinerary because we wanted to ensure we would have a chance at warm weather in early January. With stops in Honduras, Belize and Mexico.. all three delivered great weather. Only one day had a bit of rain but we were snorkeling that day.. so wet anyway! Hovering around 80.. we definitely could take advantage of the water both on board as well as ashore.

We were traveling as a couple with a young adult child who booked their own room in the STUDIO area. We booked a mini-suite but had the great fortune to succeed in our upgrade bid to a Forward Haven room on the 10th floor. The upgrade system is a bit of a nail biter as I changed my bid several times up and down.. before getting notice a couple days before that we had been granted one. But, I understand NCL wanting to maximize their ability to make money.. so we were still thrilled with the outcome.

Now, the Studio area was also a win for the younger traveler. Her room was compact but had a generously sized bed and plenty of storage for all of her stuff. The rooms are interior.. but she didn't spend a ton of time in there and there are tons of places to catch a view! They have a key access to the studio area and we kind of liked the fact that that area had some extra security control since she was cruising "alone" at only 21. She also liked the lounge area that had a small bar and she said they had a little selection of pastries in the morning. I think it was a really nice touch. Her steward was great and she got the same "towel sculpture" service that people in the other rooms get. So... traveling solo.. you don't get short changed at all. She found it exceedingly easy to meet people on the boat as a young single woman. She came home with friends in her contacts from 14 to 57 years old.. she didn't have problems with anyone misbehaving and I think she would definitely say that it was a safe trip for her.

The Haven Forward-Facing Penthouse with Balcony

Cabin H7

The room we were assigned was floor 10 forward Port side. It consisted of a front sitting room with a couch, dining table, balcony and minibar area. There was a large TV and a desk as well. You could certainly have a 3rd person stay in that area if you needed to but they would need to go through the bedroom to use the bathroom. The bathroom was really nice and very spacious with two sinks and both a tub and a large shower with a rain head and side jets. There was also a small vanity that I found really nice to set up with my makeup and hair stuff. Plenty of oversized towels were available and the toiletries were also well stocked and nice quality. The bedroom itself had a king sized bed which was very comfortable with tons of storage.. 3 closets and many drawers and shelves. There was a large porthole window facing forward and it was neat to watch where we were going from the bed. We had both a Butler (Raymond) and a Steward (Adris/Adres(sp). To be honest, we didn't use the butler too much. I know they will do things for you like unpack etc.. but we just did those kinds of things ourselves and only ordered one meal in the room. He did bring us afternoon snacks and it was something different every day.. a bit of extra pampering and kind of cool. Adres was our steward and the one that we ended up having the most contact with. He helped get things done like retrieving an earring that had fallen behind the side table and got a closet latch fixed for us as well. He also was like a ghost keeping our room in great shape all day without intruding on our ability to use the room.

The only drawbacks to the location of the room is that it's a bit of a walk to the elevator and it isn't "within" the haven complex.. so I guess that's part of the reason we didn't have as much contact with our butler as we might have if we had been up on decks 15/16. But it didn't hurt our experience and we found our room quiet and peaceful... kept well and very comfortable.
