This ship is being taken out of the waters in February for renovations and should have been taken out a year ago! Not only the condition of this ship was well below average with its horrible smells to the point of having to move lounge chairs to higher deck because of bad smells to the below average food and service. All my pre-vacation preparations I did were not on record. By this I mean, setting up on line spending accounts to filling out food special needs and faxing information ahead of time to not having any prepaid transfer documents supposedly waiting for us at the airport. We were Concierge level which as part of that package we were supposed to receive priority boarding. Nobody was there. We walked on board to someone trying to sell us specialty dining (which we already reserved) and nobody else around to show us where to go. We were lost! Finally found someone to ask which way to go! This was my 9th cruise so it's not that I didn't know what to expect! The Concierge told us later in the week he was there until noon! Not acceptable! He was pretty much useless. Never met him until an issue arose with the photo department on Thursday evening. He did leave a message on our in-room phone on Wednesday evening describing possible excursions for Thursday our last day in a port! Wast of time! Cabin was old with worn carpet and nothing special. The balcony was dirty and in need of a paint job very badly! The overall dining was well below average for a cruise. The food was nothing special at all. Absolutely nothing exciting on the menu. We had the classic beverage package and there was 1 wine and 1 cocktail on the dinner menu within that package everything else we had to pay for. They obvioulsy want you to spend more for specialty dining which we did and the Tuscan Grille was exceptional! Q-sine was a disappointment as we had eaten at one on another cruise and had enjoyed it. Entertainment was below what we have come to enjoy on Celebrity Cruises with most singers struggling. Dancers were great! Service was average. Our Dining room steward was great! Our room steward was not helpful and had to ask for beach towels each day even though they were supposed to be provided to us. All shore excursions were as expected and we enjoyed them EXCEPT for the Volcanic mud baths in St. Lucia. DO NOT GO ON THIS EXCURSION. Everyone was complaining! IT was a 2-2.5 hour bus ride!! When arrived at the mud baths where we were supposed to "soak in the bubbly water" we were paraded in with about 100 of our closest friends!! over very rocky terrain and not allowed to wear water shoes of any kind. we were given buckets of sulfur mud with everyone reaching into buckets and smearing it on themselves while trying to stand on rocks. People were slipping and falling all around us. Marched us in and out as quickly as people could move and the whole experience was terrible! Not relaxing or soothing one bit! Every other excursion was great with Barbados being the most fun! A snorkel tour then the beach for the afternoon with great tour guides! Disembarkation was a nightmare as the dock workers in San Juan went on strike at midnight Friday. Celebrity staff had never experienced this before and were not prepared. We had to remain on board with our luggage which was fine, had to handle it ourselves. Rather have it with us. When we finally were told to leave ship, we were not allowed to leave the ship terminal due to picket lines they told us were too dangerous to cross. We stood in the terminal for over 3 hours with no direction from any Celebrity representative and there was a language barrier as well. We were told before leaving the ship to help some of the elderly if we could! (which everyone did) Nobody ever went through customs!! Never filled out any custom forms and that should be disturbing to everyone! I could go on but we did have a good time within our own group! You're in the beautiful Caribbean after all no matter how awful the ship was that brought you there!!
