This was our first cruise, so we had nothing to compare against, but the 4 people in our party all thought the cruise on Merrella Discovery 2 was excellent. The ship and the cabins were spotlessly clean, the crew are permanently going around cleaning. The majority of the crew were very pleasant and helpful, you will always get one or two who aren't, but they were very much the minority. The quality of the food was exceptional and there would be something for the fussiest of eaters. We dined mainly in the Island restaurant which is self service, but the food here is superb. I can't agree with a previous reviewer who said the food was poor. We also dined in the Gallery restaurant and 47 Gallery restaurant both of which is waiter service, again the food was excellent. We did have to queue and wait for a table in both of these restaurants, but it wasn't a problem. We asked for a table for 4 and was given a bleeper device for the restaurant staff to contact you when a table was available. the longest we waited was approx. 25 minutes. There are two more restuarants on board for which you have to pay a supplement to eat in. We didn't bother as we felt there was no need. Maybe if we had been on a two week cruise we may have done.

.We had a superior balcony cabin, which again was excellent. It was a good size and never felt cramped. If there was a small criticism, it would be the shower cubicle could have don with being a touch bigger.Having said that, I am a more mature person of age and never had a problem having a shower.

We all thought the entertainment was very good on board ship, especially the live shows. Yes they aren't West End standard, but very very enjoyable, and the entertainers work very hard. Read more
